Jackson showed a bit during the final game against Sydney.

Stiff not to be promoted also.

But I guess im happy we've got another 192 cm specialist defender on our senior list.

I guess we should all start using his name in our team now ... probably something like this:

Carrazzo Flint O'hAilpin
Lappin Thornton Scotland

You never know!:thumbsu:

Doubt he'll ever play full back

IMO he'll become a similar type to Jarrad Rooke. Third Defender and/or run with player

In Like Flint

Mike & Dan

One of the highlights of the end of the footy season is the promotion of a Rookie or two as a reward for their efforts through the year. In 2006, the Carlton Football Club has promoted Craig Flint to the senior list after a series of dominant performances in the defence of the Northern Bullants through the year that only ended when Flint cracked his ankle against Werribee. Mike & Dan caught up with Craig during the week.

So when did you find out?
I actually found out on the weekend, just before the time trial. Shane O’Sullivan spoke to me and said ‘Look’s like you’re going to get promoted’.

Did it surprise you?
I felt as though last year, that if I kept going the way I was going in the Bullants then I was a chance to play for Carlton – I thought I was going OK.

Until…
I was playing against Werribee, in Round 15 or so, and I went back with the flight of the ball and landed awkwardly. Then another player fell on top of it, and I was laying there and I couldn’t lift my leg.

Was it a Nathan Brown type injury?
No, I broke the tibia right down near the ankle joint.

After the injury did you think you were a chance to get promoted?
The injury definitely put doubt into my mind; I didn’t know if I’d still be there let alone get promoted. I was rapt when I found out the news.

So how is the leg now?
It’s fine – I’ve been running for the past 3 weeks or so, and there’s no pain. I didn’t run at the time trial, I just did a few laps with Jason Saddington, but it should be 100% for Monday (the start of pre-season training).

For those who haven’t heard about you, what sort of player are you? Are you a 1 on 1 type player or a defensive runner?
I play in the back line – I guess I play the basic defensive type game. I do alright in the 1 on 1’s, trying to beat my man, wear them down through the game, and then settle into my own game through running off half back, especially once the game has worn the forward down abit.

What sort of players do you tend to find yourself on?
Doesn’t really worry me – I tend to find myself on the taller to medium players. I’m kind of in that range between the medium to tall players, but don’t mind the smaller guys either.

How tall are you?
The other week I was 191.5 – 192cm, so almost 192cm.

What do you do out of footy?
I’ve been at Uni this year studying Personal Training – down in Richmond a couple of times a week. I finish that soon so I’ll have to find something else to do.

So what does promotion mean to you?
It’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was little – play senior football. I guess it’s a little bit daunting, but it’s reality now. I have to grab this chance by the scruff of the neck.

In a footy equivalent of a famous movie saying, ‘There’s nothing like the smell of footy in the pre-season’ - and the promotion of a Rookie, together with the retention of 2 more of our favourite Rookies in Ryan Jackson and Aisake O’hAilpin, adds weight to the development path of the Blues. And what a path it looks like – Murphy, Kennedy, Bower, Edwards, Simpson, Blackwell, Bentick, Setanta, Russell and Hartlett plus our bunch of early 20 somethings and the New Blues are upon us.

Great news on Flint. Delisting of Davies keeps the high number of draft picks this year. Perhaps it's prudent not to promote Jackson in case we do draft a swag of young midfielders with our best available draft approach. No father-son this year too - confirmed also.

As I really didn't see the 'Ants play this year, what do you guys think of Flint and do you think he can make it as a defender in the big time?
I only saw him in the TAC Cup in 2005 where he was brilliant. Controlled the defence, smart footballer.
