As mentioned by The Royal Sampler in a previous thread, we will have vacate about 5 spots in order to draft and possibly trade at seasons end. I know this is extremely premature but who do you guys think could be under some serious pressure to stay at the Lexus Centre. I'll throw a few names into the ring.
= Davies, Richards, Egan, Wakelin, Bucks (Please no!!!), Lonie, Rusling, Bryan, Nicholls

Richards - YES
Rusling - NO. Just need to give him a full year. If it doesnt happen by 2008's end, axe him
Egan - YES. He has surely been jumped in the pecking order
Wakelin - ???. Yes if it comes down to him and a younger player. I truly believe this will be his last year.
Buckley - NO. But its inevitable...
Lonie - YES. Doesnt bring a great deal to the table anymore. Loose men across HB arent too hard to develop!
Bryan - NO. Its prolly him or Richards, and I just do not like Richards!
Nicholls - ???. Havent seen enough

Dont discount losing Sam Iles. The Tasmanian experiment at Collingwood just does not work! And they may pull the plug on Licuria, but thats a long shot

It's very hard to say, because retirements will make a huge difference one way or the other.

It certainly appears as though this will be Wakelin's last year. It may be Bucks' if he doesn't put the rest of the season together. Licuria has come back in good style, but may be another possibility.

If there are two retirements, I'd say Davies, Cook and Toovey are the ones whose currency is lowest at present and might make up the other three required. I could easily be wrong, and Cook could get a game and star, or Toovey could earn a recall. Personally, I'd like to keep Toovey on the list, and I can't make a decision on Cook as I haven't seen anything of him.

I'd say Nicholls might struggle to remain on the rookie list, and if it were up to me, one of Richards and Bryan would go for a drafted ruck prospect and a rookied ruckman.

At this stage, I'd actually promote Clarke and keep Sharrod as a rookie, so we only need to turn over four positions on the senior list. Lord knows we'll have the injuries next year to allow Sharrod his chance. Offloading a player to improve our draft position is another option we should explore.

I am pretty sure I have heard that wakes is retiring at seasons end. As for Bryan he has only been here for this season and I feel unless there is an awsome prospect in the next draft that we can list then he will stay. Not so sure about Richards.
Have also heard that MM is a big fan of Rusling so I would think he would be given a real chance to prove himself but you cannot argue with a player that has pretty well missed their last two seasons in a total of three due to the same injury.
Egan and Davies may be trade offs and Lonie may be a prospect for Carlton or Richmond. But I feel that Buck will be on our list one way or another at the start of next season.
Pressure could well be on Isles but has shown a bit last game.

Bryan has a two-year deal, I don't know if that will factor into proceedings.

One of richards or bryan will go if they dont improve. Cut richards some slack he has played 30 odd games, rucks dont come on until 50+ at least!

like i back lockyer thru his tough times, richards will also come good if not injured!

30-odd games in 7 years though. We may have to wait another 7 for him to make 50.

Delisting Macaffer will not free up space on the senior list, he's a rookie as is Nicholls.

Wakelin: Will retire. Anthony and Brown should take his spot next year.

Davies: He's not a bad player, but nothing in his game stands out. Delisted.

Nicholls: Will have to let off the rookie list or be promoted. I think he will be delisted.

Bryan: May be under some pressure, but I think he's on a 2 year deal. Stay, but re-evalue next year.

Richards: I think time has to go. He's had plenty of chanced but never gone on with it. Delisted.

Buckley: Depending on how he goes until the end of the year. He deserves the choice. I think he'll retire if he gets injured again.

Cook: Would be under some pressure as he would be coming out of contract. I'd like to see him play. He was a 20ish pick and is only 19. I hope he plays a game, but actually gets a chance to play (and not sit the majority of the game on the bench). Keep.

Licuria: Might be tempting to nudge him out, but I don't think MM will.

I'd keep Egan and Rusling for another year. Mad to let them go.

At the end of the year Clarke will be promoted onto the senior list. Wellingham might, but if it's between promoting him and getting rid of someone like Egan, then I'd keep him on the rookie list for another year.

Got to be kidding yourself with Rusling and Bryan. I cant believe bryan is not in the team every week.

Richards is rubbish, Egan, Lonie and Davies will get something in return. At times they have showed something.

Bucks will be given as much time as he wants to play again. So if he retires then so be it. Wakelin will definitely retire at seasons end.

Cook - I'd like to see him get another year. But competition is fierce for spots on the list. So he'd want to play well between now and year's end.
Licca - Great servant, but I'm one who believes the game has passed him by. Under pressure.
Richards & Bryan - On merit these two would both be among the first to get the axe. But that would leave us with only Fraser. Even with Richards and Bryan, we're still one ruckman shy. (IMO every list should have at least four ruckmen.) So I'd only delist one if we could replace him with a ready-made and THEN add a young developing ruck through the draft.

Apparantly this years draft is fairly weak and does not possess the depth of previous drafts so creativity will be required with later picks. So with that in mind it would be foolish to delist Rusling or Egan- 2 high draft picks struck down by injury, just let them recover, give them time and pretty confident they will deliver. If Richards gets 7 years these guys deserve at least 1 more if not 2. Will be interesting to see which way the club decides to go.

If we need the spot on the list and one of Cook, Toovey or Iles is being considered for the axing I'd like to see them go onto the rookie list, specially with Cooky being bottom aged and showing some decent form at Willi.

It would effectively be swapping Clarke for Cook, Toovs or Iles.

No, Sharrod can be retained on the rookie list, as Nicholls was this year.

In theory yes. But there is an unwritten law that you don't do that. Pretty sure if we make it our intention to do so the other clubs will leave him alone.

The problem is, this year's draft is fairly even and probably a bit weaker than past years. This year's rookie draft is going to be very important to all clubs, because they won't want to commit to a 2 year deal, or a senior spot. I'm pretty sure that it's a list maximum of 35 before the NAB Draft, meaning that each club must take 3 compulsory picks totalling to a senior list of 38. The maximum on the senior list is 40 meaning that each club would be using 5 picks in the NAB Draft to fill up its senior list. (Also note, some clubs can only afford 38 senior listed players because of the salary cap).

Overall, including rookies you can have a total of 44, however this doesnt apply to Sydney or Brisbane because they get extra picks in the rookie draft. So if you got 38 players on the senior list you can take upto 6 rookies, whereas in our situation we have a full list of 40 which entitles us to just 4.
