D.Pearce... 3 votes. I mean, D.Pearce... D.List (or retire). Pay his contract out
Will be interesting to see if he goes he won't get a game if we are full strength but with all the rest out I wouldn't mind if he was the only one to slip through the chopping block

i don't understand what happened to Sutty. He used to be good but as he has got older he has just dropped off a cliff.
Yes Sutcliffe's ball use has been an issue for last couple of seasons. Constantly kicks to the opposition. It's like he is trying to follow the coaches instructions but just isn't up to the task unfortunately. I would look to trade him out if at all possible.

I thoughT Johnno was ok. Fell over a few too many times but that is often the case for an older guy when they have hit the wall for the season. I called it after the Sydney game he should be put out to pasture for 2017 to prepare for one final year after last week's game and give Collins another look.

Collins and Sheridan in for Johnson and Sutcliffe. Probably not going to help us be any more competitive but we need to have another look and unfortunately it is a week too late.

I am not sure hawthorn will do better than freo next year but they already move on with Gibson ,Hodge this year and Sam Mitchell ,Lewis last year.. MJ need to go end of the season.

Ballas , suban and MJ all said the same thing wanted to guide the young player from their interview.

If we have balls we will move Mundy on for a 3rd round pick. He could chase a flag, or get a 2 year deal and we could get a much needed pick. That is what the Hawks did with Mitchell and Lewis.

I feel for the kid like nyhuis been throw in to play forward and produce a game winning performance and then been dropped only to be come back to the side because of injuries and get smashed.

Looks like were heading towards another cleanup...anywhere between 5 and 10 palyers.
how do we fill those vacancies??
Gone:
Zac Clarke
Zac Dawson
Griffin
Balic

50/50
Ballantyne
Ibbotson
Taberner
Appness
Johnson

Trade (maybe)
Suban
Sherriden
Sutcliffe

is this about right? did i miss anyone else?
who goes and who stays??

I would bite the bullet with Johnson - he can't turn and loses his feet - surrounding the pill like an old man does rather than try to pick it up and run forward. The end is always near when a player starts losing their core and escorting the ball rather than picking it up at pace.

I can't see how Spurr and Suban survive the cull either - there's just no reason to retain these players given the windows we are apparently working toward.

I don't think Clarke is worth a spot on the list. As much as keeping a 31 year old back up ruck isn't a good look for a rebuilding side I think Griffin still offers more next year. Both Griffin and Clarke won't be on the list much longer than that anyway.

I'd rather another young ruck than both but preferably not too young (20-23 ideal). Whoever it is won't get many games unless injuries strike both Sandilands and Darcy or they can play the forward/ruck role effectively. Most rucks taken last year were taken as rookies but I'd be more than comfortable using a late draft selection on one.

Both Clarke and Griffin should be delisted. If we can't find the right replacement we can use our last rookie selection to pick up whoever list management sees as the better fit for 2018.

Here are 18 players that could be gone with in 2 years. Apeness and Collins may end up having a good career but I have my doubts for different reasons. The issue is you simply can not draft 9 players per year.

We were very lucky last year and were able to bring in 4 mature players and draft 4 players but you can't expect us to do that 3 years in a row. We are paying the price for s**t drafting between 2010/11 and 2012/13.

The year they are out of contract.
2017
Taberner - keep
Sheridan - keep
Griffin - cooked
Ballantyne - cooked, replace with Matera

Suban - unfortunately will probably stay since he is getting games
Ibbotson - Hasn't got a game since rnd10, papers stamped
Dawson - retired

Johnson - should be delisted
Clarke - cooked
Balic - Trade

Collins - Keep
Yarran - cooked

We really need to do another 4+4

IF you look at that list just for 2017, there is 7 i would say should be delisted, up to 9 who wouldnt' be in the team if we had a choice (Johnson, Suban). Then you add Pearce, i don't see how we can't get at least another 8 newbies in.

Yeah, I'm thinking we have no choice but to trade down.
We must get a second round draft pick minimum, and a player or two for our pick 5.
Something like McGovern and 18 for 5 is about the place. That will suck...

Maybe even trying to get one of St Kilda's firsts and a second for 5

yup sounds like we'll have to shop around pick 5. On paper Pick 5 is worth 1,878 points, which is roughly 2-3 Second round picks. We may be the position we have to do that.

Being realistic we haven't had that much success with our first rounders in recent years. maybe we should trade it.

2 or 3 free agents would fix a lot of things plus a few mature ager.

Motlop, N Jetta, Coniglio in 2017, 2018, 2019 plus Marsh, Ryan, and a couple more mature ager would let us keep pick 5.

I really hope the club has something special lined up this trade period like we did last year.

The obvious way would be to take a punt on some mature age rookies from the state leagues. We've done pretty well from that in the past. We'd be mad not to take a punt on someone like Liam Ryan if he was still available.

Gold Coast have three early 2nd round picks this year (21,22,24)

If we think it's likely that we might need to use our 1st rounder next year to secure Carter would people be up for trading our 2018 1st rounder for say pick 22 and 24 this year.
I don't think worth it .
Next year pool just on WA talent alone currently I can think of
1) Ian hill
2) Sydney stack
3) O'Reilly .
Third Rd and 4th
4) Luke English
5) durak tucker
6) fazioli

For all those who think you need to trade out top 10 picks go have a look at the Swans list and where they get their depth from. They have a large amount of late/rookie picks in their 22. When you have the chance for top 10 and especially top 5 picks you take it.

We won't be trading 5 unless we get a godfather deal (like last year) or it goes for a high quality player or 2.

**** me I hope not. Their are several players from that draft that would go no1 THIS year if available. We are a fair chance at one of those players given our placement. Would be shattered if we traded our 2018 pick for something worth less than Hogan.

Yeah it's sexy. Plus there is notable SA talent as well.

Where do you see us finishing next year? Likely top 5 pick you are talking about, potentially Hill. It looms as a stronger draft than this year with a higher top end. On the plus side there does seem to be decent players in that region of the draft.

For me their picks fall too late for that type of deal OR they would need to give up all three of them OR two of them and something from next year.

I don't want that deal. But if they are wanting something in this years draft with pick 5 I would take their first next year plus one of those second rounders.

Getting rid of suban and danyle is a must. trading Sheridan would be welcomed. He is the definition of inconsistency, goes missing for large patches of games and simply hasn't come on. Depth player maybe, but if we can get something we should.

MJ has looked cooked for weeks now. Perhaps with Dawson gone, he should play another year to guide the backs and be back up. My preference is to move him on and play any of Collins, Cox or Alex Pearce in his place. Yes I know that Collins isn't the same type of player, but he may allow someone else to be the peel off option. MJ just doesn't provide any run or creativity like he used too.

Strongly linked to Matera and McGovern. Those are the 2 strong links.

So how do we get this done?

Firstly, I'm going to assume Melbourne get Lever and it's for their 2017 first ~ 11.

Now, we need to deal with Matera first and gather some leverage. I proposed this before and I say we offer up our 2018 first for Matera and 2 early 2nd rounders. GC have many picks inside top 50. This looks like a horrible deal, but it provides us with bargaining chips for McGovern. We may need to throw some later picks to GC for numbers, but nothing before 3rd rounder.

Next, we trade pick 5 and one of GCs early 2nds (~21) for pick 11, 34 (Adelaides 2nd) and McGovern. It values McGovern at exactly 21, but more importantly sees Adelaide with a top 5 pick and the ability to get Fogarty.

What's it all mean?
We lose pick 5 and our future 2018 1st.

We gain pick 11 (Naughton still a chance) pick ~ 22 (other GC 2nd), pick 34, Matera and McGovern.
