How does Collingwood have such a young list but still good in "game played"...Bastards.

Other players(experienced)around them , bigger bodies, eg. Dawes, Beams, Sidebottom makes a difference. In another 5 years the pies will be going backwards IMO, their pure talent is a little questionable for me. ATM the youth, energy and fitness overall is getting them big gains over others IMO

Ah you've done the same thing I have- I thought the list was an average over the first two weeks as opposed to being just a Round 2 list, so Adelaide had the bye and didn't field a side in round 2

To take a punt (based on last year's retirements of several veterans), I reckon they'd be positioned around 10 to 12.

You need to bear in mind their 'state of the art facilities.'

Doesn't matter if you're going backwards after you have won 6 flags straight though, does it?

It's not 'per list', it's the 22 that played last weekend ( thus, no Adelaide ).

That really is an interesting list...

If we end up competing well most weeks this year and jag say 6 - 8 wins it will be a phenomonal effort.

Puts things firmly in perspective.

The AFL prospectus puts RFC 16th in the comp with an average of 40 games ahead of only GCS with 24.9. I'm guessing this is across the list.

this!!:thumbsu:

really happy with what dimma is doing! Getting games into kids is the best way to build, instead of the quick fixes we have been seeing over the last decade!

My thoughts exactly...imagine if we had their team, don't think we'd give a flying where we were in 2016

BTW I think Pies will win at least 3 flags in a row. just as good as Bombers 1999-2001, Lions 2001-4 and Cats 2007-10...except much younger

make of that what you will.
take geelong the oldest team their age is inflated by 9 players turning 29 or more this yr or players entering the senior citizen stage of their careers. in comparison we have just 2.

havent checked it out but i would say geelong will have just as many 22 yr olds and under as we do.

lets assume 18 to 22 is development stage of a players career. 23 thru 28 their prime and 29 onwards senior citizen stage and in decline.

we can read into comparisons what we like.
at the start of 2008 hawthorns average list age was 22yrs and 220 days. from this can we all assume we are close to a premiership.

if i was dimma i would be looking at more than just age and games played.for sure its an asolute good and valid excuse but there is more to it than just that.
unfortunately for dimma i believe we a further away than he thinks mainly because i dont believe many of the players that fall into the 23 thru 28 group are good enough. have said this for a while now.

piece in the local paper today by ken judge comparing wce and sydney and the different paths they have taken since 06. for wce they have invested heavily in youth and sydney have gone youth but invested heavily in retreads. he said for wce they went the right way for lots of reasons and so did sydney out of neccesity but at the end of the day weather they wce rise or not wiull come down to how well the recruiters have done their job.sort of sounds familiar for another club now doesnt it.
age games played development sheesh it is all for nought if tyou recruit poorly. bit early to tell just how well we have done when it comes to recruiting.

As of today we have:

16 players under 22
8 players are 22
5 players are 23
4 players are 24
1 player is 25
3 players are 27
1 player is 28

hmm my take on that. give or take the odd glitch i was pretty close.
made me have a look at the assumption that geelong would have just as many 22 and unders as us and have to say not too far off the mark. 21 give or take compared to 24.
the interesting stat is we have one more player or if ive had a glitch or two similar numbers in the 23 thru 28 age bracket. i wonder if we should mention quality at this stage.
