This article suggests we are keeping Pierce for another season at least. It’s not been confirmed yet but seems quite likely.

It was Choeys plan all along to keep Hickey and Longer as place holders until Lewie was ready to take his rightful spot as No.1 ruck.

Actually, the consensus did seem to be that Lew Pierce would take a long time and that he was due to be very valuable to the club when he did mature, as he had the potential to be a Spider Everitt style ruck-forward. This is why I was patient with him and was continually mystified with the claims from VFL watchers that he would 'never make it' or that he should be delisted.

He might still never make it, but I reckon we're better off keeping him at the club.

By comparison, Billy Longer was also supposed to take a long time to develop, but I confess I'm a lot less confident of him ever being as useful to the team as we thought he'd be when we traded him in. Tom Hickey has a lot of fine attributes, but will seemingly never be more than an average ruckman.

I'd rather keep Lew Pierce than Hickey &/or Longer.
