List Cull pre draft

What he says is interesting but what he does is the crucial part of that interview. ie just get stuck into it and make the most of the opportunity for his sake and the teams sake - talk is cheap.

Just a player manager talking up his client as much as anything I think.

I agree, I want to hear from the FFC on the issue now.

Don't think we will until the trade period is over.
This is my guess.
Josh have done enough for now, which is why he is not delisted when Freo made the other delist earlier.
Chances are we are looking for a pick upgrade using MDB. If it happens, Simpson is safe. Else he may be rookie listed like others have suggested.

The player most likely to be delisted IMO is Vandeleur . But he maybe re listed .
The rumour doing the rounds is that Fremantle are trying to help Griffin find a new home .

Tom is a rookie so won't solve any immediate issues by delisting him, only only his first year, so would want to keep him, unless the coaching staff see nothing in him of course. Hopefully Big Grif can be found a new home, be surprised if he can't, would be a deal similar to how we got him you would think though!

Josh's manager was interviewed on trade radio a couple of minutes ago and said Josh cant wait to get back into training and wants to continue an AFL career with Freo
He said that Freo taking the game away from him has shown him how much he has missed .
Said it was up to Freo if he stays on the list and as Freo still need to free up another spot he wasnt sure which way it would go
He was asked if there was a problem between Ross and Josh and said no that Ross was supportive to Josh and his personal problems

As said, thanks for that Salim.

What I really would have like to have heard, though, is not just the above. That's great. But I'd like to hear what Josh is actually doing. Sure he can't wait for some arbitrary future occurance, sure he's keen as to get back to training etc.

Rather I would like to have heard, Josh has been doing X, Y and Z to get himself back to the standards required to play AFL. He's been hitting the track, doing weights, special program to help him integrate his heritage with life in a professional sporting team etc. I'm not saying he's not doing that sort of thing, but if Josh or his manager are serious, then that's what he should be able to come up with.

I'm a big Simpson fan, and really hope for the best. I'm hoping we keep him even if it means missing out on a potentially useful player like Schoenmakers (see the other thread). FWIW, I really think you've got to give someone like Simpson a good deal of time, it comes with a high risk/high reward pickup like that, but he's got to also show real action that will move him in the right direction.

Yeah it sounds like at this stage, his manager & Mitch Clark's manager are reading from the same que cards - "Can't wait to get back into training, just wants to play AFL" We'll have to see how he goes over the summer to get a better measure. I really hope he's been keeping busy though.

Why would you delist Vandeleur exactly? Do we really need to free up a third spot on our Rookie List that badly?

Young KPPs are exactly what we need, and delisting one after a year should only happen to most spudidly of spuds.

If Tom is also cut from the rookie list, then much like Wood, he's been a little hard done by as one year really isn't enough in some respects... Then again, look at how hard Ballard worked over the same period.

If he is cut then it seems the bar is really being lifted across the entire playing list ,which can only be a good thing for the club.

The bar was lifted the minute we got RTB as coach and expect it to go higher .
The competition has improved their lists so we will be seeing players being pushed to give better effort and for them to improve their skills in a hurry or expect the axe to fall .
This year no matter what your name is the questions will be asked of them to show more determination and train harder .
Our premiership window is closing fast and the Club knows it .
Our boys will be under the microscope and if any weakness are found players will be told to look some where else ,traded or delisted
Don't be surprised when during the season players start announcing retirements and others that have been at the Club for a number of years are playing for PEEL and not getting games even when their seen and a natural replacement for an injured player .
Its all going to come down to who is seen as the future and who is seen as being the past .
This year IMO is the last season Pav and Sandi will believe they can play in a premiership so god help anyone that doesn't step up to the mark because senior players will be in their face as much as RTB and the coaches .

As always, thanks Salim for your input.

I have had many discussions about our list, and it is my opinion that Josh Simpson is exactly the player we need in our 22. Skills, speed, decision making and natural ability.

Hopefully the recent Garlett allegations work as a motivation to work hard and not slip away into the abyss.

In terms of the 2014-15 drafting period, retaining Simpson as someone who genuinely wants to give it a crack would be an awesome result for us.

Come on Simpson - you can dooooooooooo it!!!!!!!!!!!

I just think it's too risky to delist and rerookie Simpson.

West Coast would love to get a guy with Simpson's skillset onto their list. He's exactly the kind of player they desperately need.

If you want to delist and rerookie someone, it should be someone like Tanner Smith who you know will attract no interest from anyone else. Leaving a former #4 draft pick who has shown immense talent on the field out there for free is just too tempting.

(and I'm not having a go at Tanner Smith, just saying that unless we have a long term injury to one of our key defenders he will not likely be playing much next year, and we can promote him again if that happens)

I can safely say I have no idea what Freo are going to do.

That's exactly what Freo are currently thinking, therefore your statement is both true and not true.

Maybe they lost their confidence after a taxation exam as well:(

You're too good for tax law.....take up the piano accordion and live your dream.

I would think the last thing West Coast want is a troubled youngster. Also he went at 17, not 4.

My bad.

I think the downside of his troubles is somewhat underrated. Dealing with young people who have various issues is a big part of what football clubs do. If you can take a chance on a highly talented but unknown if he'll work player for no risk, then you would. That's effectively the entire rationale behind category B rookies.

Being able to pick up a player of Simpsons potential with a rookie pick would be extremely tempting, unless they already had someone else in mind.
