List Cull pre draft

This could probably do with a poll.
I would expect Bondy canvassed other clubs on our fringe player's value during trade week, which will give him an idea where club's could possibly draft our unlucky delistee/s.

I reckon Griffin will go. 29 pre Round 1.
Got 4 ruckman on our list. More than likely will be available with our last pick in the main draft if they want to redraft him as back up.
As good as he was when playing as sole ruckman, that was his career best form, pre ACL and he is pretty clearly 3rd in line.
In Bond we trust.

Players like Tanner Smith, Clancee, or de Boer I think would get taken by a Melbourne or Saints prior to our last pick/rookie.

As said, thanks for that Salim.

What I really would have like to have heard, though, is not just the above. That's great. But I'd like to hear what Josh is actually doing. Sure he can't wait for some arbitrary future occurance, sure he's keen as to get back to training etc.

Rather I would like to have heard, Josh has been doing X, Y and Z to get himself back to the standards required to play AFL. He's been hitting the track, doing weights, special program to help him integrate his heritage with life in a professional sporting team etc. I'm not saying he's not doing that sort of thing, but if Josh or his manager are serious, then that's what he should be able to come up with.

I'm a big Simpson fan, and really hope for the best. I'm hoping we keep him even if it means missing out on a potentially useful player like Schoenmakers (see the other thread). FWIW, I really think you've got to give someone like Simpson a good deal of time, it comes with a high risk/high reward pickup like that, but he's got to also show real action that will move him in the right direction.

Well said. I reckon Josh fronts the club tomorrow for a spot beep test - the outcome of which will determine his fate.

Should have made one or two of the old boys retire. Crowley, McPharlin?

Plus Pav .....just chewing up our valuable cap space.

Moller is a rookie, that does not help us with the main list spot.

What we need to do is elevate Moller to the main list and then drop him and then BAM we got our 3 cuts without dropping anyone other than Kep and Gumby.

I really am so smart - Bondy call me if you need any tips.

I really really hope we don't de-list simpson... he has beautiful skills, something our team massively lacks. I think Moller is a good chance to be de-listed

We need to delist a player from the main list, not from the Rookie List. Moller is a Rookie List B.
From most reports that means Simpson, who is apparently out of contract (but not confirmed). It could also be Duffy, as his contract extension was not confirmed on the Fremantle club website.
Alternatively, it could be a player with one year to run on his contract, who is given an undertaking that he will be picked up in the regular, preseason or rookie drafts.

I have no idea what is going to happen. But delisting Simpson is a risk if the club thinks he is worth another chance. His upside is enormous.

Also, probably not likely but we could upgrade a rookie with our third pick and draft another rookie.

Still have to delist a main list player though.

Of the players listed as signed to 2015, I think Grey is the only one that wouldn't be snapped up by another club. Probably depends on how his back operation went.

Won't be Grey...quite highly rated I am led to believe.

If Simpson was a precociously talented but physically immature 2nd year 200cm kpp we would have no hesitation in letting him mature on the list. I hope we do the same for a precociously talented but emotionally immature 2nd year player.

With our third pick at 54 maybe we could do worse than using it to upgrade Ballard and then taking a mature player along with a couple of younger players in the preseason/rookie draft.

Either way I hope that Freo don't rookie list Simpson even if they feel that they could get away with it without him being taken by another club. With no idea what's been going on the last few months, if Josh has shown enough then back him in and if not then make the call the other way because either decision is going to cost someone their place on an AFL list.

Not sure who loses their place if Simpson stays, and Freo want three selections in the main draft, but for me if Simpson is to stay then the best thing they can do is show their confidence in him and keep AFL immediate rather than giving him a demotion back to the rookie list to 'see what happens'.

If you want to delist and rerookie someone, it should be someone like Tanner Smith who you know will attract no interest from anyone else. Leaving a former #4 draft pick who has shown immense talent on the field out there for free is just too tempting.

(and I'm not having a go at Tanner Smith, just saying that unless we have a long term injury to one of our key defenders he will not likely be playing much next year, and we can promote him again if that happens)

I agree. There would be pretty much zero interest in Tanner. It also gives us the option to either pick him again at #54 if there's nobody we like, or just re-rookie him if someone we like happens to have slipped through everyone's mitts.

Makes no sense to me to have Simpson on the rookie list. Make a decision one way or the other. Delist him completely. Or keep on the main list. Don't want to hand things to him on a platter, but if we want to keep him then we don't have to push too far in the other direction. If he has a main list spot, I think it will help him more than being stuck on the rookie list, where playing at AFL level seems much further away.

Simpson is capable of playing AFL. Smith isn't really, at least not yet. Would seem obvious which one should be nurtured on the rookie list.

I suspect that this will happen. Ballard upgraded with pick 54, 2 kids with 13,34 and another rookie
