List Cull pre draft

These are the only things that I can see happening to clear the main list spot now the draft has finished
1. Delist Simpson / rerookie
2. Delist Smith / rerookie
3. Delist Duffy / rerookie
4. Delist Grey / rerookie
5. Griffin shock retirement
The only things you can see happening?! Griffin will stay at Freo at worst. Very good ruckman. He'll probably leave though. There's no reason he'd retire, it's not like he's saying Freo or nothing

The retirement was just speculation about his ACL and age. Very long bow to draw, but like you I would prefer him to stay on our list...

Still have to delist a main list player though.

Of the players listed as signed to 2015, I think Grey is the only one that wouldn't be snapped up by another club. Probably depends on how his back operation went.
With our third pick at 54 maybe we could do worse than using it to upgrade Ballard and then taking a mature player along with a couple of younger players in the preseason/rookie draft.

Either way I hope that Freo don't rookie list Simpson even if they feel that they could get away with it without him being taken by another club. With no idea what's been going on the last few months, if Josh has shown enough then back him in and if not then make the call the other way because either decision is going to cost someone their place on an AFL list.

Not sure who loses their place if Simpson stays, and Freo want three selections in the main draft, but for me if Simpson is to stay then the best thing they can do is show their confidence in him and keep AFL immediate rather than giving him a demotion back to the rookie list to 'see what happens'.

Clems on the money there. I made an error above, we still would need to delist someone from the main list to accommodate a rookie upgrade.

Hannath seems the logical choice for mine. His role is as injury cover and the 3 rucks ahead of him are all on the park. Doesn't dominate at the next level so it's unlikely another club will target him. His contract extension won't cost too much to pay out and he could be moved onto the rookie list.

You sure? When I checked it looked they changed the rules about 2009 to allow a rookie upgrade as one of the minimum three picks

Edit: ok fair enough still too many on the main list

Going to be a ripper. Hard as a cats head, great spatial awareness in traffic & just looks like he wants it.

I remember watching a pre-season training session last year, and Brady was running laps like the hounds of hell were after him. Weber pulled him up and gave him a massive hiding for running too hard. Silly kid tried to run further initially and pretend he didn't hear, but Weber ran after him to give him what for. Obviously has endeavor to push himself to the limit - you can't really teach that.

Hope he gets over his back issues, will be a player.

I found the quote from Lloyd very interesting, by the sound of it we are only targeting top end talent that fill a hole. Otherwise we will back ourselves to draft well.

Lloyd denied Fremantle were struggling to recruit elite talent from other clubs. He said while the Dockers had been linked to several high-profile players, their decision to focus on a small group of players meant it was harder to sign them.

He said Fremantle were happy to retain their own talent or pick players as free agents instead of giving away draft picks.

"There's only been a couple we have genuinely approached. They're top-line players and they are in demand and harder to get across," Lloyd said.

The Dockers will enter the draft with picks 13 and 34. Lloyd said Fremantle would stick with their policy of drafting the best player available instead of targeting a position on the field.

West Coast have picks 11 and 32 in the first two rounds of the draft.

And yet under Lyon apparently we're the team selling our future for one all or nothing go at a flag.
Its one of those immutable BigFooty truths that just doesn't go away no matter how much evidence there is to the contrary.
Ross will never play anyone young, will ruin our list and then head out for greener pastures.
Its great, on the main board apparently we will start our slide next year and be in the wilderness for years to come.
It seems to be mainly Saints, Cats and Eagles fans who desperately want to believe this.

In fairness and quite surprisingly I hardly ever hear Eagles' supporters say this and they are very happy to hang shit on us about other stuff.

You speak like an elder of Australia and seem to put Indigenous people in one basket as a whole. When in reality they are all different and they used to roam in mobs. And fight and kill for land.Just like your ancestors did!
You claim you are from Yalgoo. Yet you speak on behalf of all the people. So what rights do you and half of all the apologists have the right to speak in behalf of the Country? Are you an Australian Elder? If you are from Yalgoo You have no right to speak of Noongar Country! Because you insult Noongar law.

hmmm

its about Josh

To be honest it might happen.

Who knows.

Few beers deep.

its entirely possible that Ross Lyon will take another job somewhere else when he's finished at Freo but the point is that our team won't be in ruins because we have a good list management model in place. And its nonsense that he won't play younger players if they are good enough.
People, live and learn from their past. Especially smart people. You don't get to where Lyon is if you aren't capable of learning and growing.
