Recruiting List Development 2017 - How do we develop our list?

The list is in the top four in the AFL and the best we have had for twenty years. Not sure what else you want?

Top 4 AFL. lol. What utter delusion.

That comment sums up our last 15 years. We still think we are better than we are.

We have lots of work to do. We are an ageing middle of the road side. We have a sprinkle of really good players but its not enough. Every club has these.

We need to add more quality to our 22 quickly because for every good player we add, we'll lose a Kelly, Goddard, Watson, Hooker to age, form, retirement. We have about 4-6 players that need replacing that aren't good enough at this stage to add to the older guys attrition.

None of the kids in the VFL are ready to come in an produce to a level that makes us a better side. Laverde & Langford have done two thirds of bugger all in 3 years. We need some luck and hopefully some of these guys can pop up and do something.

Thats your opinion.

I think the AFL in general is in transition with the big clubs of the last ten years all in regression and the younger teams like ours trying to make a name for themselves. Yes, we need to continue to add players but we are at the start of our journey and I think we have a massive future.

Next year we will see huge improvement and you will be scratching your head wondering how you couldn't pick it.

If that's the case then we shouldn't be sitting 9-9.
What part about having a new team with a new coach do you not understand?

You can include last year all you like but most reasonable people can see that that was a right off. We are developing and developing fast.

Your name I find ironic. You lay the boots in every chance you get!

When the team plays like caca and lose I have every right to be disappointed. Agree with Llyod I feel we have under achieved we are better then this.

Dodoro's record hasn't been that great, lots of misses in the past 20 years although all recruiting teams have this.

He's probably got more players on AFL lists currently than anyone other than the Giants. His talent identifcation is great, just needs a few draft periods to put the saga behind him see his build come together.

Kelly has had a very good year.

If you want to throw that away on the back of one game be my guest.

I'm not sure how you read a knee-jerk reaction into my post which was a response to your post querying whether we can find a Kelly replacement. I stated who on this list I thought could replace Kelly and that if we want a replacement the thing to be done would be to get that player into the team (because he won't become Kelly's replacement playing in the VFL).

I happen to think that we should not pencil Kelly into the team for 22 games next year but it has nothing to do with today.

I agree that we have them on the list but they are miles off in development.

Our back six currently consists of Hurley and Baguley that are experienced and should go on then we have McKenna, Gleeson and McGrath who are either destined for midfield or still have question marks. Adding another inexperienced player or two to that doesn't make sense to me.

I like Ridley but to expect a kid thats got what 4 or 5 VFL games under his belt to step up is asking for trouble. And Francis and Redman aren't ready either. I have no problem giving kids a go but I think we still have to maintain some level of experience or otherwise we will go backwards.

The game plan is fine. We just have a lot of under 25s who make some bad decisions under a lot of pressure at times, and some 30+ players that look slow at times. Once the under 25s have another couple of years under their belts and the 30+ guys are retired we will be a good side.

We've got a decent set of guys in the 25-28 mark who will be still playing good footy in 2-3 years. Just gotta nail this years draft and hopefully we nailed last year's.

Spot on.

Our core is young and talented and still have lots of development left.

WTF? Worsfold has exceeded my expectations. I can't believe my eyes. The team is coming together nicely. We are one star midfielder short and we need more midfield minutes from the 6th forward. I would like us to have Ambrose as a lock down, Hartley as the second tall defender to take the big guy which will free up Hurley. We will see Watson, Kelly and Goddard go from our best 22 in the next 18 months, maybe two of them in a month. But, we have Begley, Langford, Francis, Mutch and Ridley purring in the seconds waiting for a chance.

The amount of improvement we have left in this side is a lot and it will come along fast.
