Hawkins second half was significant even though he didn't dominate he did what our tall fOrwards couldn't do and that is take some marks
At the end of the day if we had a gun forward we wouldn't have to have midfielders etc hitting the post
But regardless using one game to suit your argument is pointless
Fact is we don't have a gun key forward and Ratten has presided over this list management flaw
Kruez is the best bet we have but they play Hamspon there more ??

We got through Ok last year two with threee small forwards hitting 50+ for the season - and the first time any club has had 3 players finish the year in the top 10 goal kickers. One of those was Walker, who didnt have a preseason and missed the first couple of matches.

After Fev departed we have taken at least 3 big forwards from what we had available. The only one we decided to leave that has turned out good is Darling and 16 other clubs did the same. There was serious concerns about his head injuries at the time. We would've kept Kennedy if we anticipated Fev going off the rails. I see no issue.

Next year we'll look like:

Tuohy, Jamison, Bootsma
Yarran, Watson, Gibbs
Simpson, Robinson, Lucas
Walker, Henderson, Garlett
Waite, Mitchell, Betts
Warnock, Murphy, Judd
Kreuzer, Carrazzo, Scotland, Mclean etc etc etc

looks like a damn good list to me.
Mitchell will take years to make it

we squibbed the kicks under pressure - all over the place. eg Kreuzer's miss form dead in front at a crucial time and Yarran's kick again - dead in front 40 meters out at a crucial time - and not to mention Jeffs dribble miss from dead in front...too many far too many easy misses - has been happening all year.

Players are playing on low confidence. If Yarran/Garlett cant kick em and Kruzer misses from in front - well pretty hard to win a game against anyone. Waite's kicking was crapola when he was playing and Walker isnt getting set shots anymore - since he is being used more in middle. Nahh I reckon set shot kicking has let u down and running successful kick from 50 meter arc - are non existant (ok simmo got one)

We seem to have lost the ability to kick a goal from 35-50 meters out - whereas - last year - we had 6-8 goal kickers in the team each week. I am sure it is a confidence thing.

As for game style- Ratten has a better style than other coaches ( and btw - we don't have the hard bodied list to play rugby style)- execution has let CFC down as well as injuries. Our list is what is called a "Bar-Bell" quite a few 'older' players and quite a lot of very young players. Too many middle aged players - are injured at the moment.

Forget Collingwood compariosns- they play a very set machine like game- and rotate players in and out- according to their ability to fit in the machine. and what is the style? kick it along boundary and run to spaces and then long bomb into goal OR big lateral kick into center. Predictable and boring - but a strong cosistent style of play - with occassional brilliance from Pendelbury or Thomas. Teams get ucked into playing zone against Collingwood - when really it shoud be man on man.

In finals - Collilngwood always look vulnerable - because that is when oppositions role out teh man on man against them - Essendon came very close to knocking them off playing exactly that style.

Small forwards are fine in home and away but in finals you need power forwards
That is footy basics my God !!!
And now teams have worked us out
Why did we lose to WC in the final?? Because we didn't have a power forward
At the death Wakker not big enough to take that mark in the goal square
Give me Hawkins and we stand a chance against WC

We had what you call power forwards in Waite and Kreuzer, who both missed. Not to mention Gibbs out as well. Find another misguided stat for your dreamtime theories.

So you believe had we had a gun forward we would have still lost the game ??

How anyone can argue that we lost that game because we didn't have a key forward is beyond me.

There was one main reason why we ultimately fell short, and that reason was poor goalkicking.

We kicked 2 goals 9 behinds in the 4th and lost by 2 goals. Convert our opportunities at a higher rate in that last quarter, and we run away with the game and the 4 points.

We had a good enough structure and game plan on Friday night to give us more opportunities at goal throughout the game. That's without this all-conquering hypothetical key forward you speak of.

Sure, a dominant key forward would be great. Noone is questioning that. However you are completely delusional if you honestly believe the lack of such a player was the difference between us winning and losing on Friday night.

How long was Hawkins a spud for again before he came good in the granny? Walker is 190cm ffs. Ablett senior was only 185cm and that was in a day when full backs were all massive because most other full forwards were.

We lost to West Coast in the final because we slacked off, ran with only one ruckman and missed shots at goal like always.

I have a new theory.

We would have beaten Geelong by 10 goals on Friday night had all our players grown a mullet like big Ivan.

Don't agree?

Prove me wrong.

Well, he won't. Have you seen him play? I watched him all pre-season and gone to watch him in the VFL.
He has hardly played a game !
He's Ben injured three years on the trot and will take years
More astute judges than you tell me his defensive pressure is non existent
You are fooling yourself if you think he will be the answer to our problems in 2013

So you dismiss my observations based on him "being injured for 3 years" but say he has poor defensive pressure. You actually have no idea.

And now Walker is being used on a wing because clubs have picked apart our game plan and put more numbers around stoppages
Because we haven't drafted any genuine ball winners in years is another reason Tex goes on a wing all because of two Onball injuries to MM and AC as there's no depth in ball

His defensive pressure is poor bec he is a kid whose played bugger all footy for years so lacks the level of fitness required and probably has never been taught the importance of forward pressure til now so he is years away from being the answer

What is with all you BF posters and Mitchell??

You have supported my argument, Hawkins took years and so will
Levi and Mitchell and by the time they come on Judd, Carrotz, Simpson, Scotland will be done and dusted
Huge disconnect with our plAnning, why??

Lots of reasons we lost the final but if we had a gun power forward we could have snatched it
