Bruce: Veterans list (replacing Robertson)
Bartram: Delist
Johnson: Delist
Bell: Trade (I know he's not worth anything but we cant delist him so maybe someone will take him for nothing to free up a spot)
Newton: See Bell

If either one of Bell or Newton get taken off our hands then thats 4 spots which will allow us to keep pick 50 in play should someone fall to us that we rate (and also be able to use PSD#1). Should we not use pick 50 on the day, then we can upgrade Valenti or go into the season 1 player short which has been done plenty of times before.

If we cant get rid of Bell or Newton then either Cheney, Miller or McNamara are looking very shakey.

I would like to keep each of these for next season but I think its really worth having pick 50 up our sleeve just in case someone falls through.

In summary: please someone take Newton or Bell from us!!

Besides Miller (rumour was he'd get a new contract - who knows why), quote]

Miller will get a new contract because he is one of the few players on the list who is ferocious at the ball and he will provide a leadership and mentoring role for the young forwards on the list namely Watts, Jurrah and one of the new KP draftees we will draft with one of our early picks

In football terms, Miller is a dumb player. His decision making and execution skills are poor. He may train hard, but he's the last bloke that I'd want mentoring our young forwards.

True, he's no footballing genuis. But i disagree on the mentoring bit, skills & decision making is what we pay numerous coaches stupid amounts of money to teach these players, on field aggression & dedication to training is learnt more from example, which Miller has in spades. I'm not his biggest fan but people are undervaluing his worth to our team, which is much greater than what we are going to get in a trade

It'll be a cold day in hell (sic) before Miller plays in a premiership team, but we can't expect a bunch of 1st & 2nd year players to win us games next year. Miller will most likely be given a 2 year deal so that he's a big bodied option for us to play forward while Watts, Jurrah & whoever we draft develop & grow a bit

Well said M4C!

Agree 100% with this.
Not every player has to be an out and out star, especially the older leaders.
They need to provide leadership which Miller does. Plus if opposition teams decide to rough up our young forwards we need a big mungrel down there to help them out (this is where Miller comes into play)

Agreed that McNamara has done enough being a bottom aged draftee (youngest player drafted in '07), he needs more time.

Someone with some sense. I'm far from convinced that Valenti would make any side other than one languishing down the bottom of the ladder. I've not totally written him off, but given we'll likely draft 2 ready made mids in Scully & Trengove, plus Blease & Strauss who've not got on the park this year, Valenti is a fair way back even with 1 or 2 injuries.

I wouldn't hate to upgrade him, but if its upgrade or delist i'd bite the bullet & delist, some times you have to make tough decisions. But ideally, the AFL change the rules & allow 3rd year rookies, he's done enough to deserve that.

Did you see the last handful of games? Valenti was great, and it's not like we have an excess of blokes who can go and get the ball like he can.

21 touches 9 tackles and 4 inside 50's when we got pumped by North.
30 touches and a goal in the win over Freo.
19 touches and 6 inside 50's when we got thrashed by Carlton.

Pretty good considering he played 6 games for the year and has only played 15 total. Wasn't disgraced in the other games either.

He will play well next year, they won't get rid of him and they are crazy if they do.

What about upgrading mckenzie..showed in his couple of games he could be a good player..especially with this yrs draft being shallow why not upgrade him instead of using a high pick he is only 19 so technically he be like another draft pick??

Mckenzie has only been a rookie for a year, we can keep him on the rookie list for another season before we need to upgrade or delist him.

which will also be very good for us seeing as the coast will rip the draft next year so good rookies able to be upgraded are going to be gold...
