I think it made upgrading wona a lot easier to be honest. We got CJ for **** all and to be honest he only deserved a one year contract. Stuff the greedy prick. No loss in my opinion

Anyway, so here's the deal.

Out: Neitz, Yze, Holland, White, Weetra, Bode, Carrol, CJ

In:
1. Wonaeamirri - Rookie elevation
2. Pick 1 - Jack Watts
3. Pick 17
4. Pick 19
5. Pick 35
6. Pick 51
7. pick 67
8. PSD pick 1 - David Gourdis

I was worried we wouldn't be bringing in enough young blood, but now it's looking a lot better.

gun. must grab him

I have to say I am quite disappointed to see CJ leaving the club. I had him in my top 5 most improved players after last season, and was really looking forward to seeing him develope even further and become a regular next year. However if the club weren't prepared to give him what he was asking for, then I'm happy for them to delist him.

And obviously they thought that whatever was offered was not compensation enough and that they'd try to keep him. He played hard ball for 2 years & we wouldn't budge past 1, and now we have lost him.

It's a shame, but i don't give a shit about a 4th round pick

Bailey's response:
Melbourne coach Dean Bailey says the Club is disappointed with the decision made by Chris Johnson to pursue other playing options heading into the 2009 season.
Talking exclusively to melbournefc.com.au, Bailey said, “Chris Johnson was a required player at the Melbourne Football Club. In 2008, we gave Chris ten playing opportunities to build on his career total of 21 games, and we saw some improvements in his game. Our preference was to always keep Chris Johnson as a part of the Melbourne Football Club.
“To do this, we offered Chris a new two year contract, but unfortunately he wanted to play for another, rival AFL club, and subsequently asked to be delisted.
“It is really important our members are kept well informed on matters such as these, and we are extremely disappointed with Chris’ decision.
“Over the last two weeks I held a number of meetings with Chris, and on all of these occasions he could not emphatically say that he wanted to play for the Melbourne Football Club.
“Ultimately, the ball was in his court, and we did everything possible to keep him on our list.
“There are no personal problems between myself and Chris, but we want players on our list who want to play for our jumper, and on this occasion Chris did not fit the bill.”

So what? i had the details a bit wrong, but the general diea was there, we offered a contract and he rejected it.

As i said, i'm not happy about the situation and would've preferred to keep him, but there's no use crying over losing a fringe player. Given the choice of nothing or a 4th rounder, i'd rather nothing. Bailey said he was "required" so not trading him meant we had longer to try to sign him up.

The interest we might've had during trade week we might have turned down, because we wanted to keep him. He screwed us by not deciding prior to trade week that he wanted to leave

Just goes to show that father and son genes don't always work.

Besides his lack of ability (compared to Alan), he could have at least shown some heart for the jumper !!

No great loss IMO.

I can't find anywhere which says we've delisted Carroll.
If we havn't doesn't that mean we are stuck with him for next year?
If so, WTF!

We haven't actually done it yet, i jumped the gun a little and did that before i read anything.

There's a 2nd list lodgement on Nov 18th so it might be then that we give him the arse. Gives a little more time to negotiate with Nixon about his payout

Shocking effort from Chris Johnson. Considering his father as a super player for us and we had put so much time, effort and patience with him, you would think a two year deal was more than reasonable. He clearly was showing improvement but lets be honest he played 10 games for the year and up till the middle of the season he looked a likely delisting candidate. It is good that we are no longer being held to ransom by ********s who cant play as well as their lofty opinions of themselves lead them to believe. As M4C said why would we want another 4th round pick. Glad he is gone if that is his attitude. We want players who will play and bleed for the jumper. I hope Fremantle take him and he rots in the WAFL. I think Tom Hislop with pick one in the PSD becomes a viable option now

How can people even THINK of bagging out the club here?

We offered him a two year deal, he refused. It isn't like he is the next Chris Judd people.

No player is bigger than the club.

Agreed. He would of been offered around by Melbourne to other clubs, but unless a top 30 pick (totally unrealistic) was offered Melbourne wouldn't trade him in hope of retaining him.

But now with the extra spot on the list we should will use pick 67 and PSD # 1. A 4th rounder is not worth it.
