Thanks. I have no interest at all in him leaving and I had heard nothing that would suggest he wants to leave. I was curious to see where he sat in the market. Good info. :thumbsu:

Wasn't having a crack at the guy, I rate him but he's not the sort of Key player I would be giving up a first rounder for. We need someone who can be a 50-60 goal a year key forward, which a few of us on this board believe we will have in Apeness. Kersten would be best suited as a marking third tall that chimes in with 40 goals a season next to a big power forward.

All good. And that is exactly why he is so valuable to us. He is the foil for Hawkins - or our version of Gunston hopefully ( he's not there yet)

Pitt is no longer on our list (no fault of his). For that wasted pick we could have picked up a very handy forward of similar dimensions as Pav.

By comparison, both Shero and Croz are on our list, and have shown a bit.

So yeah, the Darling miss was a bigger stuff up than Kersten's.

I just don't rate Darling. I prefer Mayne.

In terms of 'what we knew' there was plenty to like about Pitt, and no indication that he had a dodgy heart. We knew that Kersten could lead/mark/kick. We also knew that Darling had very little improvement. Given all of this I can't be too disappointed in the selection of Pitt (we can however be disappointed in his subsequent heart health), but going 'best available' through to 20-odd when Kersten was sitting there really troubles me. Can be justified to some extent I guess if he really didn't want to come to Freo ... but Pav got over it didn't he?

Fair enough. Each to their own. I'm a fan of Mayne as well, but Darling is a more dangerous target up forward, while still being a very good tackler and pressure player. Not in Mayne's class re: pressure and tackling most likely, but he definitely has sides to his game that Mayne doesn't.

How do we know the bolded? Darling has shown that he's a pretty handy player. He started off that well, that it might be hard to identify improvements in his game... but with his frame, pace and skill set there's no reason to think he would be the same player now as when he first joined the Slime.

As far as I'm aware, Darling could also lead/mark/kick, along with Kersten.

Fair enough on the last. Forster (pick 29 from memory) isn't at the club any more either. I can see where you're coming from now. Personally, I'm happy enough with the two guys we picked before him though, but picking Forster instead of Kersten is a miss.

If we had the Pitt selection again, I'd prefer we take Luke Parker over Darling.
He genuinely was the bloke I was hoping we'd pick up with our first rounder back then. He slipped a long way down the draft order... was hoping we could grab him with the second rounder but Sydney jumped in first. As if they needed yet another inside mid... and we were well short of them at the time. We ended up with michie.

Our 2010 national draft was an absolute shocker as it turns out.

Interesting way to put it... If Kersten was at freo, he would be a midfielder strangely. Kersten is around 190cm and 90kg. he is similar height and weight as Crowley, Fyfe and Barlow.

Still hold on to faint hope that Apeness, our 1st round pick of last years draft becomes our Kurt Tippet of freos squad as a centre half forward and ruckman.

I'm glad we did pick Pitt. Despite his inability to play now, I think he had a bigger upside at the time to most guys picked under him.
That does read strangely, but I get you (I think). I might be in the minority, but I reckon Pitt had tremendous potential the way the game has developed and I never thought his was a bad pick given what we knew then. Obviously we'll never know, and he was always going to be a latish bloomer (like Mundy), but he had so much raw skill that with discipline and elite program we've got running now days, I reckon he would have started coming into his own over the next year or so.

Should have picked brad hill instead of forster
Well, yeah. That would have put the icing on a very good draft year for us, it would have looked like:

16 Sherro
20 Croz
29 B.Hill (instead of Foster)
58 Neale
72 Sutty

Plus Spurr in the RD and Zac Dawson in the PSD
