Maybe he saw that with the current coach and admin he wasn't going anywhere, we see the failings in the last decade so I'm sure players that want to play in grand finals can too and know it won't happen at our club because of the way it is run ATM, their target is to make finals, a pass mark apparently.

Don’t talk shit, he ain’t winning nothing at the Bombers. He left to be close to family is all.

Melbourne - Max Gawn, drafted.
Richmond - Toby Nankervis traded in.

There's a lot of traded in there.

Throw in a few Academy gifts too, especially for the Qld and NSW clubs. Eric Hipwood, Harris Andrews and Jack Payne at Brisbane alone are standouts.

And father-sons like Darcy Moore at Collingwood.

It's not so much about his destination but more about escaping from Port, Imo Victoria was his aim no matter what club.

If you think Port are going to win anything in the next few years your kidding yourself, we will be hard pressed to keep Butters and Bergman as it is.

Also just for the record I never said he was going to win anything but was more about why he left Port, obviously he couldn't see the future or the results he wanted under Ken And Koch.

Well it was getting difficult to see Duursma's future at Port. Felt like he had almost reached his ceiling and it didn't help that he kept getting injured and when he did returned, he was poor and was clearly not 100% fit. He was probably the most consistent one out of him, Rozee and Butters during their first year together.

Having said that, Jase has already overtaken him and Moraes could very well overtake Duursma soon.

None of us will ever know the exact circumstances but it seemed the Duursma family went from in love with port to breaking up over about 6 months.

Xavier seemed to love footy, port and Hinkley, then had a crap year and was off. Don’t blame him or any player - have to do what’s right for you.

It did seem like we bulked him up to get him into the centre square and our game plan didn’t rely on wingers, then recurrent injuries and he seemed to lose his confidence and lost his way. I do wonder if we supported him from a mental health and mental resilience point of view well enough.

Anyway, hope he goes well (outside of playing Port).

And he chose Essendon, do you even read what you write ? He left us very much in a premiership window. The guy is really close to his family, which is fine… that is all. Clubs lose players every day, get over it.

I don't really give a a shit, I just put the question out there, does anyone know why he left, if you bothered to read it, I was wondering if it had anything to do with Hinkley or the club itself.
As far as him ending up at Essendrug has **** all to do with it.

Wasn't it basically confirmed that Duursma had no inclination to leave until his exit interview? The blame placed on Xavier demanding to play on-ball falls apart when he went to Essendon to play wing, the position he has played from day 1 there.

It's just another example of trading a contracted player for lesser value to cover for list mismanagement.

I know it’s still early in the season but in terms of contested possession rankings we have:
28th - Ollie Wines (41)

80th Willem Drew (21)

****ing. Dire.

Wines is 30 and a shocking kick and Drew is a full time midfielder that has never averaged 20+ touches a game.
Where are Rozee and Horne-Francis? Are they outside the top 100?

Contested is dying in today’s game.
Just looking at tonight’s match.
There was 12 contested marks and 220 uncontested marks.
Why wonder it’s so boring to watch.

I don’t think contested possession in the centre is dying, I think it’s more important than ever

When Port lose, we get absolutely towelled up here

(As we always do in big games)

Amon was a bigger loss for us than Duursma. We have had a weak spot on that wing ever since.

Duursma wasn't good enough. Very frustrating player. You are right on Amon, but he never wanted to be here. Tried to get to St Kilda before and they didn't even want him on the cheap.

That's an interesting take. I don't recall getting that vibe from him. Felt he fit in with us quite well.

Impey on the other hand...

It’s disappointing that we’ve allowed good kickers to leave: Houston, Amon, Polec. We haven’t replaced them well enough.
Stuff Polec. Dude left because Port had lingering concerns over his foot and wouldn’t offer him near to what North were willing to offer and look what happened. He barely could get a game after his first season with North with his foot issues flaring up again and got delisted with one year left to his contract.

The good thing that came out of the trade was acquiring Pick 12 which became Zak Butters.

Impey on the other hand...
It’s a shame that Impey had off-field issues; namely his father passing away which affected his football because he is type of player we could use right now.

Looking back, there was some questionable list decisions such as Port forcing Trengove out when he couldn’t make it as a forward after preferring the setup of Clurey, Hombsch and Jonas. It felt like to me Trengove’s heart wasn’t ever 100% with the dogs after moving there.

Just heard some news this morning off a mate of mine who is a player agent. Butters deciding between Port, Dogs and Cats...Leaning toward Dogs. Won't consider Tigers, Bombers, Saints, North. Find it amusing that the Sam Mclure didn't mention the Dogs during the week.I would imagine Ugle-Hagan would be part of a trade to get the pick for Butters.

We’re going to expect two top 10 picks for Butters and unless one of them is a top 2 pick to get us Sharp, something extra as well.

Fair call. I'd be asking for the same for a top 10 player in the league. Will have to do a lot of work to get 2 X top 10's but can happen by trading out Ugle-Hagan at the end of the season.

Would make Dogs a contender while Bont is still a top 5 player. Having Bont/Butters with Darcy as a target.
