"... except Port because Collingwood said caveat emptor."
Far out, how many peeps (esp Crowgans) wheeled this one out when it was all going down?!

Must've been a Guinness World Record for the most people to use a phrase without understanding what it means.

Aaron black has to be looked at doesn't he. I'd rather trade someone like a broadbent/hammer and get someone like aaron black + more, rather than trying to turn one of our kids into a forward.

AFL to soften rules around Bombers' top-ups
However, AFL.com.au understands after a push and submission from the AFL Players' Association, the League has looked over its free agency rules and found that because the 10 players will need to be delisted to leave Essendon's list, they should qualify as delisted free agents.
That would allow Essendon – and any other clubs interested in any of the top-ups – to sign them as delisted free agents and not be required to wait until November's national, rookie or pre-season draft to add them to a list

Wonder if the Club is looking at any on the Essendon players
That's great for them. I assume we can do the same with our top ups...

I want bigger, heavier! :)

TBH I would look at Daw over Black purely because whoever we target needs to be able to pinch hit in the ruck if we move Lobbe on.

Daw is more agile. He measured a standing jump of 70cm and at last years grand final sprint he won by so much he probably could have pulled off a usain bolt pose before the rest of the field crossed the line.

And anyone who thinks we're even a chance to trade Hammer is dreaming. The kid is contracted and so would have to agree to a trade for a start. Then factor in that he is on a long term contract, awesome coin, in his home state, and at his fav club. You do the math.

Logan has played forward before? If our back 6 are full and we get delist Schultz and Butch, he'd be worth a shot. He's a good mover and imagine he could be reasonable leading up the ground.

Black is only 192. We can do bigger and better, surely.

I am not sure why we have a trading fetish.

The smart model is the trying to get a free agent and then going to the draft.

Before we get ride of some of our mid-range players, we need to move on:

Mitchell
Stewart
O'Shea
Schulz
Butcher

Maybe one smart trade, but let's not throw out the baby with the bath water.

Yeah.

Trade out. Free agent in is the way to add depth and talent to your list under this system.

Black looked absolutely blue chip in 2013 yet has managed to do stuff all since. I don't really know what to think about him now - there's obviously the factor of Waite being recruited over and the emergence of Brown which have taken away opportunities for him. He's a real natural forward with good body size who moves well, yet (supposedly) struggles to have an impact at VFL level these days.

It feels like an eternity since we traded a player out for some picks. It feels like an eternity since we had some decent picks to play with in the draft. Our list has probably stagnated a bit this year because of it. Perhaps Lobbe and also Pittard, if he wants an early move back to Vic, might land us a couple of decent ones. But then we will be light on in the ruck department again, especially as Ryder won't be match hardened and a bit of an unknown due to the year off. I am sure hoping our lowish picks in the 2014 draft (Austin, Palmer, Frampton and Howard) will prove to have been genius moves in years to come though.

If he's cheap I'd take a look at him. Change of scenery does wonders for some people. Wouldn't hurt for some depth

Bit of a myth, unfortunately. There's a few rare stories of people turning their career around, but more often they see a spike of around 10-20% in performance in their first year then revert to their previous form.

Story is a little different if you get an under 24 year old as they still have that natural development but it's pretty safe to say when you're recruiting someone who is 25+ it's what you see is what you get.

Betts was already one of the better small forwards, kicked 50 while at Carlton one year. Adelaide's current high attacking gameplan is assisting him to kick more goals, but yes he is also one of the rare cases who has seen an improvement.

Also, not surprised that you are the one to bring up a crows player in the discussion.
