I think he's extremely unlucky not to be in the side right now considering what shape our list is in at the moment.
He's extremely lucky to still be on the list is what I'm getting at. How many other players get 7 years on a list to prove themselves? But yes, shouldn't have been dropped after the Sydney game.

Looking at our list I'm making my calls

Upgrade:
Krak

Delist:
P Stewart,
Colquhoun,
Schulz

Rookie List:
Cut: Mitchell
Retain - Houston, Snelling, Hewett

Trade Bait:
AhChee - Possible delisting
O'Shea - If we get a 2nd rounder for him
Butcher - either trade, downgrade to rookie list or give 1 year deal.

Notes:
Carlile retiring would be great but can't see it happening.

That leaves us with:

National Draft Picks:
Pick #9 - Best Mid available MUST WIN HIS OWN BALL
Pick #45 - Best KPF available
Pick #63 - KP Defender or Ruckman

Rookie Draft Pick:
Pick #9 - As per 2015 rookie draft, the best FOOTBALLER regardless of physical attributes, available.

Or if Butcher is delisted to be moved to the rookie list:

ND Picks - Pick #9, Pick #45, Pick #63, Pick #81
RD Pick - Pick #9 - Butcher.

Borrowed time (2017 Delistee contenders):
Carlile
Monfries
White
O'Shea
AhChee
Butcher
Neade
Krakouer
Toumpas
S Gray
Lobbe
Jonas
Thought I'd update my choices, for no other reason than to look back on given that the choice between Schulz and Butcher has been made.

If Schulz has retired and Butcher says then the club has made the right decision as apposed to giving Schulz 1 more year and delisting Butch.

But now with Doogie injured we must trade in a youngish forward/ruck on the cheap. Vickery is not the answer.
We are going to end up with Dawes aren't we.

Bit disappointing that the club has announced the Schulz decision AFTER he played our final home game.

Sarge has been an absolute warrior, he's bled for our club, and IMO he deserves better.

Fair enough to not renew him, but had they announced the decision last week we could have given him the exit he deserves.

Poor form PAFC.
Perhaps the club weren't confident on an upset win, and would rather send off Schulz with a more likely chance win.

Maybe Palmer looking comfortable in that forward role may have been the catalyst to the decision although I'm surprised he wants to go on because his body doesn't look right - but I'm no doctor.

Out of everyone that has been mentioned, I'd like Daw the most.

Is a capable forward to help Dixon, and is better than Lobbe in the ruck as well.

But it looks like the Kangas are finally going to give some of their fringe players a go next year, so wouldn't be surprised if he stayed.

Steele and Stewart would be an awesome package from GWS - surely they won't have the cap room for all these players.

Love to know the potential Forwards or Forward Rucks who we could potentially trade for like Saints did with Bruce/Membrey. Would anyone know if that stewert from GWS is any good. Wouldnt mind trading next years 1st or 2nd for him and another player from GWS (ideally another tough mid to add to the rotations). If Steele of Tomlinson were interested in coming to SA ( i dont think they are) then 1st pick for one of them plus another player would be worth it. We would get 2 good players who can make an instant impact but also be around when ollie and wingard are at there peak.

Have heard we were looking at the possibility of Majak Daw, would suit our structure just not 100% convinced we would get him cheap.

He's not overly tall, but I'd much rather the likes of Young, Reynolds and Palmer have the ball dropped to their head than Neade and Monfries.
Surely we look at moving Neade on at the end of this season.

Don't see where he fits in with Young, Monfries, Chad, Robbie, Amon, Impey all rotating through those small forward roles.

Considering he was only given the contract a 1-2 months ago I think the club intends for him to stay.
A lot changes in a couple of months.

All I'm saying is that I don't think he'll ever be a small forward in our next premiership side, so I would be moving him on.

Whether we do or not, we'll have to wait and see.

So we are pinning hopes on becoming relevant again on a ruck who hasn't played in a year and a forward who can't play out a season (or be a one grab...)

2018 draft picks looking really good I hope....

Bit of a myth, unfortunately. There's a few rare stories of people turning their career around, but more often they see a spike of around 10-20% in performance in their first year then revert to their previous form.

Story is a little different if you get an under 24 year old as they still have that natural development but it's pretty safe to say when you're recruiting someone who is 25+ it's what you see is what you get.
Schulz was almost 25 when he got here.

Never mind the Eddie Betts comment, as the player in question was Aaron Back, and by implication Butch and the less likely less typical Majak Daw as well, let's stick to the typical development curve for KPFs. If there is such a thing ;)

O'meara anyone?? Injury concerns but looked like he could become the best player in the league at one stage. Does he love Ken from his younger days??

Don't think GC will want picks, they have plenty, they'll need players. Westhoff, Broadbent, Lobbe, Hartlett?
