How do you define mentally weak ?
* Missing goals ?
* Appears laconic on the field ?

I'm just trying to ascertain what makes Justin more or less mentally weak than any other player on our list.

Inconsistency in goal kicking. Staying in the game. Hitting the contest.

Hoff shits the bed. All good to kick the impossible from the boundary line when there's 2 minutes left, what about the routine set shots in the 3rd quarter to restore momentum? Or just being there and having a presence?

we can rule out getting Mayne as according to Tim Watson, he is going to North Melbourne.

so thats why they got rid of their 4 veterans! So that they can spend it all on a 28 year old spud forward, who applies defensive pressure!

classic Norf
I don't think they'd be able to bottom out completely and go for a rebuild so they just keep topping up on mature-agers and are destined to finish mid-table forever.

As Choco said to Thurstans, champions kick those goals. Or something like that. It's like Brian Lara making 200 when West Indies have won by lots compared to Steve Waugh making 100 when we're scratching for runs.

Love the Hoff but you've nailed it here

Westhoff is not a KPF. We're more likely to play a Dixon Monfries/Neade Young Wingard Butch Palmer arrangement. If Chad is "our" Cyril we'd be looking for "our" Gunston/Breust combo out of Young/Palmer. No KPF or even MPF depth, sure, with Doogs out for 2017 ... apart from Lobbe <ducks head>.

As harsh as it sounds hot on the heels of Jay's announcement we could have got something out of Freo for him, yet we didn't, who knows why, probably because Ken didn't want to play Butcher, or didn't want to blood Doogs, or didn't want to re-purpose Lobbe, I don't know, maybe all of the above.

It's far more likely that Westhoff has two years left in him now, even in his roaming role, than it was for Schulz at the start of this year. We need a KPF ready to go R1 2018 and can't rely on it being Doogs because he's probably going to spend half of 2018 regaining match fitness. So if we're going to trade one in on the cusp it has to be this year, hence the Black/Daw/Wright frigging Vickery natterings. If we're reliant on Westhoff playing a KPF role part time in 2018 we're screwed. So if there is a decent offer for him this year when he still might have value we'd be nuts not to consider it rationally.
I'd rather Westhoff 1 v 1 inside 50 every day of the week ahead of Jake Neade

I think Westhoff is probably the best mark in the team , close to the most versatile player in the team .
He's also a bit unreliable which is disappointing because at his best he's pretty much All Australian material , bit like Hartlett I guess , they both play mostly average games with the odd stand out game and the odd stinker .
Sure if there was a good deal for us like a top 15 pick for Westhoff or a top ten pick for Hartlett I'd trade them but otherwise happy for them to stay .

Neade is not quite holding down the Monfries spot.

Agree on the 1 v 1, but who would you rather have a set shot I50? Frustrating that one of our "good blokes", finest servants and most senior players has that hanging over him.

Still Westhoff.

Neade has been atrocious under pressure from set shots. or any finishing that isn't dribbles for that matter.

Just a thought bubble, but there's an idea to regain a 2nd round pick:

As it stands now, Gold Coast would have four second round picks - including one we traded out for Dixon, and that's on top of two they already have in the first round and possibly more they may still gain for Jaeger O'Meara and/or Dion Prestia.

Jack Bowes and Brad Scheer are likely to cost them points, but I have a feeling that Bowes will just be their first pick rather than a bid, but they'll need to bid on Scheer

Could we potentially offer Brendan Ah Chee to Gold Coast for one of their second rounders? He's out of contact, surplus to our needs, could reunite with his brother and is likely get more game time at the Suns

Except I don't think Ah Chee is worth a second rounder.

How about these names Eric McKenzie and Lachie Hansen? I assume after tonight's game we won't hear as much Ellis-Yolman chatter.
id take either. both have good hands and currently out of favour. reckon we would be able to get McKenzie easier than Hansen, due to the Eagles having Barrass and McGovern coming through.

their key position stocks are ridiculous. & who'd have thought having a mature age backup ruckman on the list could possibly come in handy at some point in a season???? jeeee that's groundbreaking

The problem is the last few years has shown us we have too many players that show up when they want to. Especially against weaker sides and not the top sides.

The likes of Hartlett, Broadbent, Westhoff to name a few so we need to remove the inconsistent less competitive types and insert beast who want to compete to win.

I don't doubt all our players are cult Herod and good guys. If we we don't switch and mix it up we are going to get the same results.

Surely people don't want to same results for another 10 years?

We'd be lucky to get a third rounder for him.
