And then you get a phone call saying that your club captain wants out of his contract because he doesn't like the coach

Or your prized No1 draft pick from a year ago says he wants to go home
Contingency planning my friend. Given professional experience, I ask my staff to propose exit strategies and contingency planning initiatives for the 1 percent. Given those qualifications, sometimes, there is little preparation for the greatest of curveballs. Then it becomes a matter of hopefully having the right people in the right positions to deal with the problem.

Seems pretty happy with the "vanilla midfield" apparently...

Simpson does seem to backing our midfield to improve on what they showed this year notwithstanding his acknowledgement that they need to getting bigger and stronger.

There were signs of improvement late in the season as we looked a more attacking and cohesive unit at times despite the fade out against Essendon

If the improvement doesn't continue next season then it will be time to question his judgement of our list.

i'm not sure much "improvement" was demonstrated throughout this season. we played some impressive at the start of the season and towards the end, largely due to the fixture we had.

but yes, if we don't improve next season then serious questions must be asked.

I thought you've been asking those questions all season?

Sack Simpson, appoint Sumich as head coach

don't recall ever saying we should sack simpson, and i have definitely not suggested we appoint sumich.

my argument all along has been that we have turned in woefully disappointing performances this year, and drastically underachieved given the fixture we were given. this seems apparent to most of the football media and broader footy community - apparent to all it seems bar new wave supporters such as yourself and other on this forum who accept mediocrity and do not have the same expectations of our once revered and successful football club.

In light of Adelaidde's bold move to replace Sanderson, it begs the question: should we consider doing the same with Simpson?

Our season was a MASSIVE disappointment, even moreso than the crows. Simpson has looked all at sea at times this season and it is highly doubtful that he is the man to take us to our next flag.

The crows seem poised to swoop on Goodwin, one of their own who is loved, admired and respected at the club. Seemingly, we will have a similar opportunity presented to us with Bluey McKenna possibly departing the Suns.

If the opportunity presents itself, will our club be bold enough to do what Adelaide has done and cut our losses with a suspect coach who is still seen as outsider and has failed to deliver the expected results?

and?

there is a difference between asking a question and making a statement.

There is also a difference between asking a question to spark debate, and asking a question then arguing strongly in favour of a particular answer.

Don't hide behind semantics.

sparking debate was exactly my intention.

i just find it really concerning that our club and supporters are so blasé about the performance of the side this season. it was an outrageously disappointing season and we as supporters should be demanding better.

it was an outrageously disappointing season

Complete and utter rubbish. We improved on last year despite losing Glass midyear, getting nothing out of Cox, Naitanui playing clearly underdone, and Rosa, Selwood, Yeo and Wellingham missing big chunks. We've got one of the youngest lists in the AFL and three of our best young players in Gaff, Darling and Shuey finished in the top five in the B&F (despite some people insisting they'd gone backwards under Simpson...)

It would have been nice to kick an extra goal against Essendon or Carlton and squeeze into finals but missing out on the eight by a bee's dick doesn't make the season "outrageously disappointing" by any stretch.

What's outrageously disappointing is that for whatever reason you've marked Simpson's card in April and decided you're going to push that barrow to the maximum extent, against all logic and reason.

We kick those 2 goals - we finish seventh. Don't think we would have gone much further but given the crap middle part of the season, finishing seventh surely would have been as much as we could have expected from Simpson in his first year.

Trust me, i certainly don't accept mediocrity. And i agree with all of that ^

I just don't attribute it to being Simpsons fault. He gets a grace period with me and i have faith he can turn things around for us, and bring our on field performances up to scratch. I'm annoyed however by the lack of list shakeup we've had, after yet another disappointing season.

If i see the same shit on field from the team next season, and the same rubbish "we have talent on our list we're going to back in" during the 2015 trade/delist period, then i'll start getting asking questions about Simmo.
