Thought we might have made some additions to our coaching staff by now.

Status quo for now ... no need for coaching changes imo. Everybody is happy with the coaching group, everyone buying into the dynamic, and no one wanting out.
It all seems very positive in the eagle's nest.

We improved on last year despite losing Glass midyear, getting nothing out of Cox, Naitanui playing clearly underdone, and Rosa, Selwood, Yeo and Wellingham missing big chunks.

While I think ndot's criticism of Simpson borders on ridiculous, I think the two highlighted items above in particular are one thing I was disappointed with. We shouldn't have had 3 rucks for so many weeks - Naitanui was forced to play underdone when Cox+Lycett/Sinclair would have sufficed, and once Naitanui was no longer underdone Cox should have taken a back seat immediately in favor of Lycett. We tried to please too many people IMO.

The fact that we had four best 22 midfielders missing so many games also concerns me - is there something we're mismanaging on the medical/training side? Did we handle travel appropriately? One or two less injuries to our midfielders could well have made that 1-2 goal difference we needed, and we might have had our late-season resurgence a little sooner to boot.

We are one of the biggest and most wealthy clubs in the league, surely we could entice a more experienced and more respected football person from another club to fulfil this role. I dont really care if he is a lawyer, I am a ****ing lawyer, hire me if thats all that matters. We should be cherry picking the quality young list management people employed at other clubs.

I would be very curious to know if this is one of Vosso's mates from when he was in Adelaide.

I have faith in the club that they are making the right calls but something is just not sitting right with how we are going about it from an outsider looking in. Desperate for the club to prove me wrong.

Complete and utter rubbish. We improved on last year despite losing Glass midyear, getting nothing out of Cox, Naitanui playing clearly underdone, and Rosa, Selwood, Yeo and Wellingham missing big chunks. We've got one of the youngest lists in the AFL and three of our best young players in Gaff, Darling and Shuey finished in the top five in the B&F (despite some people insisting they'd gone backwards under Simpson...)

It would have been nice to kick an extra goal against Essendon or Carlton and squeeze into finals but missing out on the eight by a bee's dick doesn't make the season "outrageously disappointing" by any stretch.

What's outrageously disappointing is that for whatever reason you've marked Simpson's card in April and decided you're going to push that barrow to the maximum extent, against all logic and reason.

the fact that 2014 was a improvement on 2013 does not in any way negate the fact that it was an extremely disappointing season. 2013 should be seen as an anomaly based on the preceding years, and we had a MUCH tougher draw than we did this year.

i have not written off Simpson at all - he could still be the man to steer us back into the top 4 (and i hope he is). but his coaching career is off to a shocking start thus far, and he needs to get it right fast because we need to reassert ourselves as a club.

A massive decline in Kerr, Embley, Cox and no Nikoski with an injured NN caused us to fall ass over head, not too mention Woosha's off field dramas.

11/12 was a false dawn.

Simpsons had one season to try and judge where our list is it. We aren't some chook raffle VFL rabble who sack their coach every 5min when they don't get results within half a season. To build you need time, Simpson needs at least 3 years before we can judge his ability to build a team.

I agree with this

I've been pretty happy with his performance as a coach, just haven't been happy with the results of the squad

I felt pretty meh on Simpson/the coaching staff when they weren't cutting dead weight ala Geelong and the Crows, who have already delisted like 6-7 players already. I felt like they were being ruthless, something we needed to be doing. Was almost Woosha-esque, putting faith in the old guard and not realising that certain players are just list cloggers and won't ever amount to the 22.

Then I realised we don't have the depth to do that. We were caught out this year when we had to play Hill, McGinnity, Butler, Smith regularly. And before you shoot me down, I was a big fan of Ginners and Butler this year - however we all know they're nothing but depth moving forward. Also, Simpson just started. He will need time to develop his own squad and own the team.

That said, I would like to see one of Wilson and Carter cut. Give Tunners a year and draft some kids.

Let's blood for a shot in 2016-17.

It is absolutely pointless delisting big numbers of players when there is nothing to take their place. Both Wilson and Carter have shown good skills and Carter in particular is very young. At the moment we have a number of skilled players who are yet to really prove themselves due to lack of opportunity, injury or simply experience and maturity. Newman, Karpany, Main, Maginnis, Colledge, Tunbridge, Sheed, Yeo, Carter, Lycett, Hutchings, McInnes, Barass, McGovern and Powell have all played only a few games and some of them none at all. On the other hand, Naitanui, Gaff, Shepherd, Masten, Wellingham, Shuey, Cripps, Sinclair, Darling, Schofield, McGinnity and Bennel all have a lot of upside for improvement. On top of that you have Waterman, at least two other draftees plus the special rookies in Adamson and Brophy to develop. I simply don't believe trade for trade sake is worthwhile at the moment as WCE Eagles list is at a crucial stage and of all the traded occurring the only ones which would have filled our needs were perhaps Beams and Christenson.

As far as Simpson and his coaches go, I have always disagreed with his policy on 3 ruckmen and too many talls but it is too early to say whether or not he has failed or succeeded. At the beginning of the season, the main worry was always whether an almost fiull replacement of coaching staff with limited experience would hinder the team. That has probably been the case to a degree but I am pretty confident they have learnt well over the season. at least this year we have been smart in using the rules to gain extra rookies which may or may not turn out well but it is sensible to have the option.

For the 6000th time.... the 3 rucks thing was not "his policy"

He was FORCED to introduce that joke to accommodate Cox, who simply wasn't retiring and yet was not in the best 22. Along with Lycett who was rightfully annoyed and out of contract, despite being in the best 22.

I'd say it's a bit hard for him to come on down as a rookie coach in his first season, and tap our newest games record holder, who's been there for 13 odd years, on the shoulder and tell him he's now behind Lycett in the pecking order.

It may well be "a bit hard" but he is supposed to be the senior coach and should be addressing issues particularly when obvious. Cox wasn't the only option and at times it may well have been OK to drop Nic Nat or even experiment with more "smalls" around the talls. As I said, the jury is still out but I hope at all comes good and probably I expect it to. By the way, it might surprise you to know that not everyone reads all of your posts and I must have missed 5999 of your gems of wisdom
