Have they really cost us short term? Dawes has barely played, and reid is a far better forward IMO when he's fit. Shaw may have cost us slightly, but that isn't a position we are short on anymore with Young, Scharenberg, Seedsman, Williams, and even Fasolo all playing a similar position who will all get better and better except for Young. Thomas has been really average, we only bring him up now because beams and sidebottom didn't play so players like adams and thomas were shown up.

At the moment, the short term loss of Thomas has been to our advantage. Thomas has hardly set the world on fire and we have been able to get games into young midfielders like Adams / Thomas etc. Sure Thomas at full fitness and in form is one of the best AFL players, but we are yet to see it at Carlton

Hi Guys,
The Crows apparently made a play for Kyle Martin last year and still have interest.
Just watching his footage in the VFL he looks like he could be a hell of a player, what do you think is holding him back from getting a go at AFL level for you guys? His form seems to demand it.

My guess is plain common sense from the selection committee. ;)
Kid deserves a crack & that will probably mean we end up losing him at years end.

Interesting little note in Jon Ralph article this morning saying the pies and hawthorn have been forward paying contracts.
Interesting if we will make a play for Mundy or Frawley this year or hold off for a year.
It's a pity Gibbs has signed with Carlton because I believe he would have been a perfect fit for our midfield.
If i had to chose I think I would chase Frawley due to age although Mundy would strengthen up our clearance work.

If be leaning towards Frawley to bolster our KP stocks if we could get him for the right price.

Wouldn't even think twice about it, O'Rourke is a pick 2 and with our development systems could become a 10 year star

Swanny may not have that long left, and what he has left to give won't be to the same standard we know him for
You'd have to think at least twice. Pick 2 means as much as Tom Scully's contract,r Josh Fraser's future Collingwood captancy or Collingwood's development of Chris Egan.

You don't just trash your champions.

I've said for a while that we have the capacity to sign a $1m player. We prepared for Free Agency for 2 years by our own admission. Losing Thomas has to have cleared the $800k we were planning on paying him over and above whatever else we had to spend.

I been hearing we are keen on Fyfe and Fyfe is keen on us.

I doubt it as how would do the Trade. We would not have a 1st round Pick to Trade

Ive been hearing Fyfe loves Freo and that he is a local WA boy, in fact the was an artical on this and it was Fyfe himself that said this.

He wont leave Freo.

Well I have heard that before and the Player still left

We should not go after Frawley, it would be a waste of money and in answer to the question on why Martin is not getting a game is because you can not play him and Dane Swan is the same side and Swanny has runs on the board

So would you trade Kyle Martin for say a 2nd/3rd Round Pick or Try and get Something good for Swan while he still has a bit of Currency Left?

Keep Swan. You do not disrespect guys like him, hope to keep Martin

Well IF you think Martin won’t get a game while Swan is Playing. Why would he want to stay? Heard last season a few teams where Interested in Martin

I don't know how Martin and Swan can be mentioned in the same breath. Swan is champion. There is a reasonable chance Martin may become adequate and an outside chance he may be a permanent best 22 player in a top 4 side. We either keep Martin or we don't but it has nothing to do with Swan. As it stands now we don't have players outside our best 22 that have much currency. It's not like we are challanging for a flag and top end talent can't get a look in. We are playing plenty of youth as it is. Anyone not playing regularly is either not a quality AFL player or injured. Clubs do not place a high value on our VFL players like some on here do because clubs are not blinded by love of black and white. Martin isn't ghetting a game because players that aren't guns are getting a game ahead of him. If he was worthy of a game he'd be playing.
