Destabilising? He hasn't been at the club to destabilise anything, and in his fours years prior to this didnt have any issues.

Do you know why he isnt at the club? Has nothing to do with bad behaviour or issues within the team, he is under an AFL mental health management plan due to depression. He has been admitted to a mental health facility, has had issues with suicidal thoughts, and to the point he didnt trust himself to even drive his car.

Let's not try to marginalise people with mental health issues.
Just go and read the scandal board thread and screw his mental health rubbish

Everyone rolls out mental health when they get caught

It was not a mental health clinic it was an addiction clinic which he left in his own two feet

He makes poor choices of friends so much so his friends used his car in a robbery

His friends fired a gun inside a night club

He needs help alright but one we shouldn't be involved in

And if you don't like my take on his mental health then put me on ignore. I'm not changing my mind

I don't care what anyone says, I would be offering JUH a lifeline at the Crows. Get him out of Victoria and into a good football club and culture, and he would be an amazing long term replacement for Tex. He would also be lucky to cost you a third rounder at best.
You just dont get those types of opportunities very often.
I would also offer North a second rounder for Duursma while we were at it.

Id be having a lot of conversations with those around the Bulldogs camp first. Some of the rumours of JUH behaviour to senior team mates are incredibly disturbing. Im of the side of caution with this one. He could be one toxic personality who is just a cancer on the squad. We dont need people like that.

Perhaps it would be better to let him go into the VFL system for 12 months and see if he finds the desire to re enter the AFL system first.

You dont pick up a half baked pie off the street just because its free
Not if it’s balfours, if its vilis you’d definitely consider it.

The rumour is that the Bulldogs don't want to offer him a new contract. You'd have to think the cost wouldn't be massive. A couple of thirds?

He'd be free if they didn't re contract him. I don't think there would be a hassle over a third pick in his scenario.

It'd be a tough one, guy is quality but after his injuries this season and his age, it's a big risk

I think he is worth it TBH.

Could offer him a 2 year mentor player roll where he can look to mentor the midfled group, but perhaps with no certainty of any games. Could be worth a punt getting that sort of intel amongst the playing group in the Sanfl. But he can get this role in Melbourne and id certainly not pay him anything over and above for the privilege.

Treloar - doubt he'd leave Melbourne.

Oliver - would have a crack at.

JUH - no, too many issues. I expect the AFL will get involved here anyway, it won't be simple.

Port delisted Burton, any interest?
Ryan ‘I hate Adelaide’ Burton? Flaky player. Lovely skills but he’s not unconditional.

We’ve got Edwards and Ryan yet to debut. Not exactly the same type of player but I’d rather give them opportunities instead.

Defence is probably the one area (aside from a jet nwm type) that I think we’re ok with for now. Provided we don’t lose a Butts type in the trade period.

What about Finlayson as a break glass option (replace Burgess)

We are in the window. We don't need to take risks. We need consistency and stability. Peatling, Cummings and ANB are low risk and have had great reward.

Clarry and JUH are not worth taking the punt on when we seem to have a focussed group with the eye on the prize. The answers are elsewhere.

Thats one way to look at it, but if he does go back to the VFL and starts performing there will be 16 other teams all going for him.

Sometimes relationships breakdown, and the idea is that you learn from it and do better in your next one. We have all been there in our lives.
The same things were said about Bailey Smith at the dogs with his relationship with Bulldogs team mates, yet he moves to Geelong and has a new lease on life, and is one of the Brownlow favourites.

Now, he may not want to play football anymore. He might truly be over it, in which case you move on, but if he says he really wants it, moves here for a new start, the upside could be massive. He is a high risk, high reward proposition.
We just know that a team like Geelong or Brisbane are going to take him and he will go on to be a star.

Be brave AFC. I know they won't, as we are the most risk adverse team in the league.

It’s always the same old farts on here saying they don’t want a player because “drugs” or “bad behaviour”. Stengle, Brad Crouch, Oliver, Ugle-Hagan etc. Even if it could possibly make the team better. They’d be happy with a team full of Van Berlos to watch every weekend of their mundane life.

You can almost smell their voting history.

There are always risks involved in achieving success.

Oh, say hi to the chaplain at church for me on Sunday.

Oh, say hi to the chaplain at church for me on Sunday.

Look at Geelong, they happily picked up Stengle and Bailey Smith and would do the same for JUH and Oliver, they'll grab anyone and everyone with talent. Look where it gets them, sustained success year after year.

They've gotten pretty good at sweeping things under the rug too - Bruhn on the injury report all year for Finger TBC and not a peep, Stengle 'collapsed' in a nightclub, who knows what's going on with Smith half the time. Yet they win all the time and no one really seems to care.

This is the exact time to take risks. We have stability at the club and a great culture.

The AFL is littered with clubs bringing in highly talented players with off field issues to get them across the line - Brisbane and Pyke, Geelong and Stengle, Richmond and Pickett to name a few. Other clubs have also had massive success by bringing in highly talented players who are a risk because of their work ethic / fitness (Hawks- Dew / Swans - Davis).

Im all for exploring this as an option. Its not just one indiscretion though. There have been multiple off field incidents and issues with team mates and coaches. He has also had his work ethic questioned and has often, not just once, shown a lack of professionalism and desire on the training track. This has been an ongoing issue from the moment he walked in the club.

This is far different from every single player you mentioned. But a few clubs still appear to be chasing him and until we get a better understanding of how he sits and what the truths are, we should be asking the question.

There is calculated and then there is reckless. We need more information. I dont think we know enough.

Cotton call: In-demand rookie nears club decision after eight-team chase

In-demand rookie Indy Cotton is set to make the Crows his club of choice if he pursues footy

There is a view among clubs that Cotton has qualities that could have seen him be a top-20 pick in this year's draft had he purely pursued football.

Cotton is the son of former Port player Jarrod Cotton, who is the Suns' current under-18 Academy coach and led them to a 4-0 winning run in their Coates Talent League stint this year.

Sure, they also had them in Melbourne when Dusty was the best player in the competition
The thing is, Dusty WAS the best player which allows you certain leeway. He was also far less outspoken.

JUH seems to pride himself on who he knows, and gets himself in all manner of troubles. Plus..... he just hasnt got the runs on the board as a player.

This is the Philadelphia eagles model. They seem to thrive with dysfunctional individuals and somehow become great as a team. It is baffling to us plum in the mouth south Australians after all we have been to schoool not skewl

Yep, let's in invite in destabilisation into a group that clearly has it's eye on the prize and risk blowing it all up.

One wrong step by any player.... Have you forgotten how the media treat any controversy at AFC. Any "sniff" of a story ...

JUH was enough of a distraction for the dogs. I can't believe people would even think that's going to end well at AFC.

Great players at Victorian clubs get leeway....

Which he will get back under Burgo

Clarry has ADHD and I know for a fact being married to someone with it and a child with it, they can get a hyper/laser like focus on something
Thus why Clarry found himself in trouble with substances, they have an addictive personality

He wants to get back to his best, can see Burgo giving him a program and Clarry being hyper focused and going through pre-season getting shredded
And he knows that there will be some big provisos to a move here, having that hyper focus on success and fitness again will help keep him on track

I really hope we can get a deal done, will be an absolute bargain

Can’t see him being a bargain, Demons don’t have cap issues and if they’re going to discard quality players and head further down the ladder, they’ll be looking to maximise value at the trade table. He’ll either cost is in salary or picks, we won’t be getting a discount on both.
