Thank you for your impute, but I have every reason to believe we will continue to get better.

Rankine, Curtin, Rachele will all get better and improve inside the midfield, but I get this feeling I’m just wasting my time outlining how and why I think we will improve.

I think we need to sort out our ball movement coming out of defence first and foremost. Once teams clamped down on those 30m attacking spear kicks we were doing, we resorted to panic kicking and bombing down the line (which saw our defensive transition numbers plummet).

I think the general committee of Milera/Hinge/Worrell/Max is fine re: distributors, but it’d be nice if we could get a high touch, elite disposal half-back. Not necessarily a priority though

Moving the ball out of defence with speed and run is a priority

If we dropped Laird, more ball would naturally get into the hands of our better distributors off half back

He's our #1 possession getter back there, but only averages 280 meters gained and is not a high score involvement/launch source

Other teams get a lot more out of their #1 ball winner in defense. Zorko at Brisbane, Dale at the Dogs, Whitfield at GWS, Clark at Fremantle

I mean, obviously you’d love someone more dangerous with ball in hand in Laird’s role, but I think it’s less important right now than adding midfield depth and a good ruck to our 22. Our defense functioned pretty well this year, which you can’t say for our mids, ruck and even forwards, at points

Really happy for him to get his own ball, but we shouldn't be putting the ball in his hands to exit d50.

If we made a call for a better distributer to get the hand ball receives, would Laird still be viable?

when we were shit laird had to mop up a lot of ground ball every week. now thats less of an argument so you probably right. but its still not the priority of mid and ruck given hinge should be doing better than he was.

Good news is we’re about to reinvent Hinge as a mid. Our only small/medium defender that actually defends and takes the game on by foot.

Hopefully a change will spark something, as he was shitful this year.

IF this speculation regarding Sanders has any truth and it involves Butts going the other way, I'd be saying a hard no to moving Hinge from the defensive rotations as if one of the interceptors goes down injured, Hinge can step into that 3rd man up intercept role for us and that will be more valuable if we leave ourselves thinner. Borlase is more a come in and play dour defence on a player and he can do that.

Two players I would love for Nicks to finally get a good run at AFL level is Dowling and Edwards.

Dowling offers more than Taylor and want to see Edwards to see what he can produce.

Yes just optimistic, if we don’t land a game changing mid hoping to see Curtin in there for Berry, Draper start on a wing and Cheese to half back. Imo always played his best footy there but injury interrupted and should be given a chance and a look at least .
Re Dan, recall listening to his junior coach on a pod who said if ever a game was close and they needed something special
he would make the “Curtin Call” and throw Dan into the ruck and they would win the CBA every time.
Not as a ruck but hopefully a big mid with a few extra kilos after pre season for us.

You could put Dawson there, but he's too good everywhere else.

Personally I think Laird should be our break glass back up mid now. We need better skills off HB. His Hail Mary panic kicking isn’t good enough and it’s all down hill for him from here. Like Tex shouldn’t be starting the season in the ones. Time to turn the page.

The club is too weak to make the big calls on senior players.

I mean we stuffed our structure up in finals just to accommodate Smith.
