It's a big list for 12 months time. I feel like we should of tried to move a few on keeping in mind we likely lose our F2.

With a few exceptions, its an ordinary list. I think only Butts, Edwards Cotton and Michelanney would get alot of interest from other clubs.

Hinge, Pedlar and Berry would probably get a spot on another list but clubs wouldn't be falling over themselves to sign them.

Contracted until end of 2026
Brayden Cook
Lachlan Sholl
Rory Laird
Jordan Butts
Chayce Jones
Max Michalanney
Billy Dowing
Luke Pedlar
Mitchell Hinge
Sam Berry
James Borlase (R)
Oscar Ryan
Charlie Edwards
Tyler Welsh
Zac Taylor
Taylor Walker
Indy Cotton (cat b Rookie) Not sure of expiry date

I reckon there’s a lot of players who’s future is up in the air.

I’d be putting money on Berry and Butts to be playing elsewhere in 2027.

Tex will retire.

Laird and Hinge will re-sign, praying Michalanney does too as he could name his club pretty much.

Borlase will go

The rest are a coin flip I feel.

Not too sure about Borlase not becoming a later version of Ben Davis especially if you think Butts is gone....somebody seems to rate him at the club....for the record I don't as an AFL level player. This could change if we traded in or drafted in a KPD but I don't see that happening.

Right now, i'd be quite prepared to offer a shot to Stevens from Geelong, take a punt on Hollands hoping the last chance saloon mentality might kick him into gear as there is a real.plaer in there and Ah Chee. We do all the above and retain our 1st or even trade it into next year to load up for a player. But Ah Chee would help raise the floor of the team further, Hollands at a very low cost would be low risk high reward if he got it together in a position of need as a mid/ forward and Stevens would be a virtual free hitbig bodied inside mid to help us structurally. Just my take.

I would certainly agree with Stevens, not so sure on Hollands though.

That's 7 players off the main list. Not going to happen.
I'd keep Pedlar
Keep Hinge
Give Laird 1 more year depending on form

Otherwise about right.

Brayden Cook - delist if he doesn't play
Lachlan Sholl - delist
Rory Laird - retire but the club will definitely sign him
Jordan Butts - trade
Chayce Jones - delist
Max Michalanney - sign long term
Billy Dowing - 1 year dead man walking contract
Luke Pedlar - 1 year dead man contract if he's fringe, more if he plays the year
Mitchell Hinge - very unsure, possible trade
Sam Berry - delist
James Borlase (R) - delist
Oscar Ryan - delist if he plays 0 games in the first three years, otherwise 1 or 2 year deal
Charlie Edwards - 2 year deal
Tyler Welsh - seems like a project player, 2 year deal
Zac Taylor - 1 year dead man contract if he's fringe, more if he plays the year
Taylor Walker - retire

Lots of players basically have the year to stake their claim or they should be moved on

Not many players we'd be desperate to extend

There should be at least 6 list changes though based on who is unsigned

Cook - like him but it’s last chance saloon.

Sholl - unless he regains that wing spot, either trade or delist.

Laird - one year extension.

Butts - two year extension, three at most. If he’s offered four plus by another club, the compensation may be worth considering.

Jones - nice bloke but time to move on. May get a chance at Tassie.

Max - long term extension to free agency.

Dowling - should explore a trade if he can’t crack a regular spot. If no takers, extend for a year. If he’s a regular, two year extension.

Pedlar - same as Dowling.

Hinge - needs to find a role. Trade bait if he doesn’t, otherwise extend for two years. Worth noting hes a free agent.

Berry - time to move on if he doesn’t take his game to another level.

Borlase - retain if Butts leaves. Otherwise time to move on.

Ryan - two year extension.

Edwards - two year extension.

Welsh - delist if no real improvement. Otherwise one year extension.

Taylor - still have faith. If he’s a regular, two year extension. Otherwise one year or trade.

Walker - retire

I know you like Taylor I would have traded him this year for whatever we can get.

Max I think will get a deal post free agency.

Sholl, Berry should be moved on this trade period.

Yeah I think that might happen.

It would be so lazy to do that. If we’re going to have a guy on the list whose main role is to play 2s and might get the odd game when injury requires, why not make it a project player? Or even just someone from another club.

I think with your backups a certain level of turnover is good. You might find a diamond in the rough, and worst case scenario you create a bit of healthy pressure for spots.

I think we’ve seen with Strachan and ROB, that keeping those two as the one and two for so long, with no one else in the mix, has probably led to a bit of stagnation in that position.

Sholl - unless he regains that wing spot, either trade or delist.

We really don’t use our wings anywhere near us often as we should.

I think getting the wings involved a lot more could be part of improving our ball movement, in particular transition out of D50. I reckon if Curtin gets more mid time as well then the opportunity may present.

At the moment our system is not set up for a player like Sholl to thrive on the wing.

At the moment, our system isn't set up for about 40,000 Crows fans on the wings...

Good for Tex. not good for the team IMO

We need less big and slow and more speed and pressure in the front half

You're not getting much pressure out of a 3rd tall forward, no matter who they are. Equally we are built around one star key forward that we are also determined to use in the ruck. That stops any idea of going smaller dead in its tracks.

It's probably the right call to recontract Tex, though at worse it's just having a solid clubman around as depth for a year/give a bit of coverage to delist Burgess.

Ret: Tex, Laird
Delist: Cook, Jones (why on earth would Tasmania want him?), Borlase, Sholl.
Resign: everyone else, unless someone like Butts/Dowling want to move on for more opportunities.

Though we may have missed a trick by not trading Butts this year after his Cam Ellis-Yolman run. After all, we're in expansion drafts next year...

Take it with a grain of salt but according to trade Radio Bailey is close to signing in again at Brisbane. I didn't think he would leave Brisbane but if he did it's better to know now and move on.

Arguably right now is about the worst time for Bailey to resign. The time to move on was a month ago.

He would be leaving a fair stack of cash on the table if he stays

Probably not. If he's staying, it likely means Brisbane ponied up.

Equally, with losing Ah Chee/Starchevich, they probably needed too.

Wishful thinking,

He is 33 at the end of 2026
I'm not wishing he hangs around by any means, but if there's anyone that ekes out 2 extra years to 35 it's Laird. He's a coaches favourite and has had barely any injury history.
