The '24 report when talking about money allocated for 5 years + is talking about 2030 onwards, where the '25 report is referring to money spent from 2031 onwards.

Fogarty's extension was announced in Oct '24. So in last year's report when it spoke about money allocated for '30 plus they were just talking about Fogarty (Worrell and Ah Chee were yet to be signed for those years), $2,275,000 for his last two years.

Have I got that right?
And Isaac Cumming's 6th year of his contract probably

Unfortunately how many athletic high leaping "mature age" rucks are there running around in the lower leagues that could slot straight in and perform at AFL level straightaway?.

The new ruck rules have made that many degrees harder than previously as most rucks in the lower leagues that aren't already on AFL lists as developmental rucks or back up rucks are the bigger bodied wrestling type rucks whose strengths are not so athletic or high leaping.

Best bet in this coming MSD is athletic high leaping and quite skillful 19 year old Marcus Krasnadamskis but even he he is unlikely to be AFL ready for a year or two.

He's been invited back to the Eastern Ranges as a 19 year old whilst training with the Dees VFL team who he will likely play a few games of VFL with throughout the year.
Do you think the change in ruck rules could open the door for either Maley or T Murray as an athletic but undersized first ruck option? I haven't seen enough ruck work from either but am unconvinced McAndrew is the answer for a side with flag aspirations.

Murray perhaps, Maley I doubt it.Maley is basically a KPF and Murray is more a KPF/chop out ruck. It's really too early to tell how the new ruck rules will influence games before even an AFL game has been played. Next question is do McAndrew, Maley and T. Murray have the required tank to be full time AFL ruck men?

Maley is nowhere near selection as either a forward or ruck

with the new rules somebody could come from out of left field, more likely this year than ever IMO

Ruckmen have always been allowed to jump, the new rules aren’t moving the needle that much. They only impact a handful of rucks at centre bounce. And most of them will adapt and remain in the game.

Interesting little insight in the financial report though, if anyone was wondering what we've allocated for Cumming, Fogarty, Ah Chee and Worrell for '30 and '31, '32 and '33.
for clarity, what are the insights? you are adding total 'committed' player salaries for those year and just dividing by the players on the list to try and ascertain 'average' salary? I suppose somewhat interesting but clearly wouldn't account for front loading contracts and even the breakdown of the players per year if more than one (Fog, Cumming)

It’s a great pick up - only thing I’ve seen on the record from a club about specific player payments.

How so?
Have you actually looked through the State Leagues and other lower leagues as to what AFL ready rucks are available that fit the common thought requirements of athleticism and a big leap?

Looks to be very skinny pickings when it comes to athletic high leaping ruckmen that would be AFL competitive let alone capable of leading an AFL club's ruck division.

My read on it is, in last year's report the money allocated for contracts 5+ years was $2,275,000.

At that time only Fogarty ('30, '31) and Cumming ('30) were contracted for '30 and beyond. So we know that that $2,275,000 is allocated for these players for those years respectively.

In the '25 financial report they have reported $3,550,000 is set for contracts from '31. This money covers the base payments for Fogarty ('31) Ah Chee ('31) and Worrell ('31, '32, '33).

The AFL do not publish players salaries, but in this instance they publish a very small amount of players (without naming them) and the money budgeted for them. That's all.

Imagine how much a high leaping ruck will cost us this year if McAndrew doesn’t work out.

About the same as any other year. There are only so many ruck jobs going around.
