Doubt we have the cap space for both .

We could probably afford 1 of them plus Sanders

Nah, we probably do. At worse you burn some depth in your 25-30 slots, which is a whole lot of "who cares"

IF we had the chance to do both and didn't because we didn't want to burn the depth in the squad, its negligence of the highest order. 2 stars go a lot further to winning you a flag than 3 or 4 depth players

Chayce Jones has a trigger for an extra year (2027), depending on how many games he plays this year.

I’m not saying I don’t want Sanders, I just think there are question marks over the level he will get to, how his type of player fits in the modern game, and whether he would make a significant difference to the overall quality of our midfield. We don’t need more Peatling-level mids, we need genuine gun mids, and if we can’t get one in trade or FA we should try to draft one not use our draft capital to get someone at a lower (but still decent) level. Hamish has got to hit the dart board sooner or later.

You’d want to see a level of improvement from him this year, but even if he just becomes someone who accumulates, can provide spread and have some versatility to push forward, he’d help us

Seems to be handball happy when he plays midfield?

3 kicks 18 handballs 125 metres gained on the weekend. That's about 6 metres gained per disposal?

Dogs fans seem to be happy with his performance, pretty creative in the trenches apparently, but one would like to see a bit more aggressive ball movement from him

There shouldn’t be that much difference between “who cares” depth and league minimum draftee wage that replaces them. Draftee base is $100k, “who cares” depth shouldn’t be any more than $200k. So 5 players wouldn’t free up much more than $500-$600k. Not saying I wouldn’t do it, I’m on the record as wanting to recycle depth. But I reckon we’ve only ever seen that kind of turnover once.

From where I sit I'm not sure he provides any more than Sam Berry

Depends on his development, Berry’s ceiling is probably where he is at now, whereas Sanders might have more growth given he’s three years younger. Berry more dynamic in the contest, Sanders more of a natural ball winner around the ground

Very dynamic.
Would be interesting how we split CBAs, in that event. If there’s 30 in any given match (ie 90 to go around for our mids):

Dawson - 20
Curtin - 16
Peatling/Berry - 15
Bailey - 12
Rankine - 12
Rachele - 12
Thilthorpe - 3

That’s without accounting for Draper or Soligo, too

Players develop at different stages, Berry has really started to drive his legs from the contest and burst from stoppages with real speed likely because he's gaining confidence and it appears the coaches have him now playing way more offensively rather thn playing the defensive mid role he seemed to be pigeon-holded into previously. A lot more dynamism about his game now.
