Also we should give Mark Blicavs a three year deal and if his body finally gives up and he can’t play he can do coaching and development

Exactly the same as brisbane did with Daniher from memory
Did the rules get changed to clamp down on it after that?

I'm vaguely remembering some contract changing-loophole that got closed but can't recall the details (or even if it was about Daniher)

similar but from memory there was a key difference with daniher being a rfa. lions paid a massive salary in a short term deal to trigger tier 1 compensation for dons as daniher left as a restricted free agent. so effectively they got their man and also looked after essendon with the compensation pick. then smoothed out salary on a longer team deal. i believe the afl then made this sort of arrangement not permissable going forward - seemingly just for free agents though

You are right and it was actually worse due to it compromising the draft via an inflated compo pick. Our deal to land AhChee ONLY impacts us with no draft tampering like Brisbane and Essendon cooked up

I think they changed the rules so you can't adjust the salary in the portion of the contract that was already signed. So you couldn't turn a massive 2 year deal into a back ended 5 year deal

It doesn't really matter how it's adjusted after the contract is signed - what matters is how the player's salary is counted against the salary cap.

It's my understanding (and I could be wrong), that they're able to shift the salary, but as far as the salary cap is concerned the $$$ remain allocated as per the FA offer/agreement. Once the FA offer/agreement period expires, the salary cap $ match the $ actually paid.

i think with Daniher they spead the funds across the whole length of his deal.

They changed it so that the club has pay all agreed salary in the original length of the deal. So if the PSD contract we gave Ah chee was $1m per season over 2 years, we have to spend the full $2m over the next 2 seasons.

but we can still do a handshake agreement that ah chee signs for 3 more at $250k

Former Giant running medium rebounding defender Josh Fahey very impressive against our SANFL team today in his first outing for Centrals, given our lack of a genuine rebounding running defender he is well worth a look in the MSD, good pace and a really penetrating left boot. Still only 22 and with the likes of Lachie Ash etc never really got a fair go at the Giants.

Anyone got any speculation on players we might go for? Not sure if many SA boys are out of contract this year.

Article says he’s flying back and forth to see the kids. Surely the only reason he’d leave Brisbane would be to be closer to his kids.
Yep 100%

Yes he has family in SA, and the flight is closer but it really wouldnt matter.

If we have asked the question then good on us I suppose.

I guess the flights might not be too much hassle. Check in from home, carry on only, catch up with computer work whilst in the air. He’s got the $ to have a car waiting for him. But still, unless he sees flags with us and Lions falling away or we’re offering significantly more $ than they or Freo can, why choose us?

Would love him for a couple of years under a new coach and hope it happens. I just can’t see us moving to position 1 in the queue.

Landing Neale may mean the Lions can afford Bailey.

Would think if we have the choice between the 2, we aim for the younger player.
