Our Milera is being looked at by Melbourne clubs, according to Gettable.
My feel is Milera would be just about the least likely to leave on our list unless our offer was way below AFL rates for his type.

As much as I like Milera, if we actually think Edwards or Ryan (or both) are AFL quality then we have a lot of options for his spot, amongst others.

So following on from that, if the deal was good, I'd go for it.

We have no say in it, Milera is an unrestricted free agent year's end....we get whatever the AFL decides re compo.

The fact he's an unrestricted free agent is probably Twomey guessing IMO.

Wouldn't matter if he was, this is his 10th year I reckon.

Sounds like some made up numbers to me.

Yeah, it was Will Faulkner who said it, who isn't a Sam McLure type - just a regular AFL and cricket journo.

I took note, because it was a very strong statement, and it wasn't trying for clicks or anything. He just said everything he had heard was that the relationship with JHF and Burgoyne was the main factor in his decision. Money would be mostly the same no matter where he went.

In the past, the 10 year rule was if that was your second time coming out of contract as an FA.

Was that rule changed
No, this is correct.

Players are only RFAs if it is their first time coming out of contract since qualifying for Free Agency AND they are in the club's top 10% highest paid players.

They are UFAs if they are in the bottom 90%, it's their 2nd time out of contract since Free Agency, or if they have previously been delisted (at any stage in their career).

Unless there's something I've missed re. Junior, I don't think Twomey/Beveridge et al are saying there are definitely Melbourne-based suitors for him, they're saying that, as of this week, he and the club hadn't begun contract talks. Which makes total sense from the perspective of both parties. So possibly just a bit of 2 (he's out of contract) + 2 (both parties are waiting) = 5 (Melb clubs in for him).

Milera a tidy player and having a decent season. Deserving his spot, but this smells like a Doedee situation.

Happy to re-sign him on a lower end contract - but wouldn't want to get into a bidding war and its better to let someone else over pay.
Agree, unless he has a stellar back end to the season. Seems like a situation where it's best for both parties to hold fire for now - the club wants to see if he stays fit and continues improving as the season goes on, Milera would be hoping he can have a run of games like the Carlton one and set himself up for a big contract.

Port covering all their bases here?

If they cant secure Butters, then they can go full tilt at NWM ?

Yup, and Nasiah has made it very clear he won’t under any circumstances play for Adelaide. So I can see Port going hard regardless. More likely to stay at Saints though you’d think.

No, it is not correct, it was changed in 2019. Every player that has served 10 years is a UFA, regardless of how many times and when they’ve been uncontracted. From the AFLPA website.

Agreed, if you fall into the trap of trying to keep everyone you can't really improve your list. We will have ti lose a few along the way.

Happy to keep him but it would be a low offer.
