if he was prepared to go via the PSD, as Ah Chee and Dawson were, he would be at Port as we speak. Seems more likely he's of the Rankine mould and wants to not be hanging around all trade fortnight whilst clubs haggle.

What you need to realise is that just because we got Ah Chee via the PSD, doesn't mean it's a viable threat every time. If NWM was in the PSD he'd be taken with the first pick. That club would then just sit on him for a year and trade him contracted for a huge profit. There's no such profit on an Ah Chee, you blow a big frontload for what? A late 2nd/early 3rd. What would be the point? But if you're West Coast and you blow $2m in cap space to buy 2 first rounders, you do it in a heartbeat.

It still goes over your head what the purpose of the preseason draft actually is.

Some blokes I'd be targeting this trade period -

  • LDU
  • Tom Powell
  • Will Day (tell him, we'll get you fit, those Hawks medicos will rob you of a career if you stay)
  • Zac Bailey (obviously)
  • Henry Smith
  • Alex Davies

Obviously a couple of those may be totally off limits for obvious reasons, but you never know

Good in theory

LDU - re-signed a big $$ deal he is getting overs

Powell - just re-signed

Day - avoid , he is made of glass sadly

Bailey - will stay at Bris

Will McCabe is one I would be into if he doesn't get regular game time this season

How confident are you that Bailey stays at Bris?
If Bailey hasn't re-signed by mid-season, reckon he is gone

It's not like he is rushing for a contract extension preseason.

We'll wait til Day is free agent at the end of 2027

Tom Sparrow as Free Agent

If ROB can't win a centre tap because he can't jump and he already is very limited with his disposal he should not be playing in the A's no matter how good his endurance is.

This rule change ends the lumbering wrestling ruck type.

Basketball is about to lose a shit load of talent to the AFL, because all clubs will need young athletic jumping types going forward.

I agree with Powell, though he seems happy and has re-signed.

Bailey I definitely think is in play. Free agents are getting massive overs and he's next.

Goad and Dodson should be added to the Smith mix.

just some Scott Burns comments on the SSP spot

“You saw it (Foot’s talent) today and we see it a bit more on the training track, but I’m not sure what direction we’ll go in,” Burns said.

“Belly (Tom Bell) was fantastic today as well and did some nice things, and there’s some players out and about the boys are looking at quite closely as well.

“I’m not sure where that (last spot) is headed.”

Guess it gets down to are we looking short term or long term, Zac Foot is a 25 year old that was drafted by Sydney with pick 51 in the 2018 draft and played 2 games before being delisted, since played VFL for Southport.

Tom Bell is a 19 year old developing athletic KPD that appears to have to real weapons intercept marking and excellent kicking in his arsenal.

Do we really think Zac Foot can be a regular AFL midfielder or simply depth?

Obviously personally I'd go Tom Bell at this stage if he backs up yesterday's showing before the March 2 deadline for SSP's.

Should be Bell as a no brainer, particularly with Keane's injury.

Only thing is I doubt Bell is seasoned enough for AFL in 2026 whereas Foot likely is if called upon.

It gets down to ow or the future.

Worth noting our current 2 starting key defenders have recent injury history too, that could play a factor.

If one of our key defenders gets injured, we need options, even if raw.

You also pick the player with more upside.

I doubt they are expecting 20 games from a SSP player.
Nowhere did I say we did but do we go with a 25 year old midfielder/forward that has been in the senior's system for 7 years or a 19 year old 1 year out of the U18's system with it all in front of him?

We have 16 days to decide if we fill the last list spot in the SSP window.

Tom Bell makes more sense to me given his probable development and upside.
