its a ridiculous notion. Adding Merrett to the side would be a daft attempt to buy a premiership with a coach who is too scared to take risks. It wont happen and would be a missed opportunity to plug holes in the list.

I think "two firsts" is really one, because 2027 is going to be an empty draft due to Tasmania. It's probably a pick in the 20s.

I'd like to keep Soligo, but it needs SOMETHING else, otherwise Essendon will just hold onto him.

I wouldn't bother with Neale or Merrett unless we got them for not much.

Rachele will be an interesting watch. He has three years after this but with his improvement I can see some big clubs offering alot of money

add bailey, we certainly seem faves at this stage with a massive contract and we WILL (positive affirmations) be a contending club even if on an over-inflated contract and possibly one last piece. and thats either a nwm or i am going to throw out there that jhf may be even a tiny chance if power go the complete rebuild (which they need to). perhaps we offer up a couple of first round picks AND mainly if jhf asks for out as wants to play for a contender during his prime footy years (25-30 years of age). chance of this happening for jhf is remote (2.5-3.5%) and clearly nwm seems a more LIKELY chance but will cost 3 x first rounders but thats cool (2027, 2028, 2029). reidy was quietly confident last year that IF nwm came home we were as good a chance as power. the 'playing with family / friends things is way over-stated in the media' and that 'nas is his own independent man'

now before i get my hand off it, this is a team that would push pretty hard for the 2028 flag imo - and theres only one 'missing piece' ASSUMING we get bailey as per above

If we think we’re a high end mid short of genuinely contending over the next 2 years and we think he’ll remain a high end mid over the next 2 years, then he’s exactly type we should be looking at. No draft collateral, so we get to contend without sacrificing future talent.

I think Justin Reid and I would now be on the same page. Great that we had a go, but we now know the reality. He’d rather stay at Saints for 2 years whilst Port accumulate the capital than come to us, even though we were headed for top 4.
