List Management Thread

Making that many list changes would screw us up for years. 6 months ago we were the next best thing, we were where Hawthorn were at not long ago. After three games, the drama queens are out in force. We're probably a year behind where we thought we were. There's no reason why in 5 or 6 years we can't win a premiership, we just have to work towards a plan rather than drafting or trading for the sake of it (Jordan MacMahon).

The thing about trading, is that any player should be considered when trading, as long as you're sure you're getting something better in return. There's no point in trading Will Thursfield for pick 70 when we have 8-12 picks already according to your end of year plan.

2009 Playing List as at 31/10/2008:
1. Chris Newman
2. Will Thursfield Trade(surplus Defender)
3. Brett Deledio (DVC)
4. Andrew Raines Trade Here within lies the value, can we trade perhaps Raines and Tuck to the GC for a high pick?? I'd be all over that one
5. Troy Simmonds Delist Not yet, we don't have a ruckman capable of competing the way he does just yet, 1 more year, see what happens.
6. Graham Polak Delist Should've been done last year but we are a club that has a heart, and i like that
7. Nathan Brown Delist No way
8. Jack Riewoldt
9. Trent Cotchin
10. Shane Edwards Delist or Trade Keep him, he's a genuine talent. just needs direction. So far in his career, he's played as a small forward, on the wing, midfield, half back, back pocket. He needs a set role and needs to work on it. Give him a tape of Eddie Betts's first couple of games this year, or Phil Matera
11. Joel Bowden Delist He will more than likely retire, but he's an Al Australian CHB who offers a lot to maguane and kel moore
12. Matthew Richardson Delist I'm sure you'll re-think this one tomorrow
13. Jordan McMahon Delist Shouldn't have traded for him in the first place. Agree 100%
14. Dean Polo
15. Kayne Pettifer Delist or Trade The best we can hope for in a trade is a can of coke. Delist. Agree 100%
16. Luke McGuane
17. Chris Newman (C)
18. Alex Rance
19. Dean Putt
20. Mitch Morton
21. Shane Tuck
22. Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls Delist
23. Daniel Jackson
24. Mark Coughlan
25. Jay Schulz Delist or Trade Agree 100%
26. Adam Pattison
27. Tom Hislop
28. Kane Johnson Delist Agree 75%, just not too sure right now, it'll be a big second half of the year for him
29. Tyrone Vickery
30. Richard Tambling Delist or Trade See shane edwards
31. Adam Thomson
34. Cleve Hughes Why is he playing Coburg 2's, delist??
35. Matthew White
36. Jarrod Silvestor(R) Delist Agree 100%
37. Andrew Browne
39. Daniel Connors
40. Kelvin Moore (DVC)
41. Nathan Foley(VC) Trade (poor footskills could get 1st round pick) No way, keep him
42. Andrew Collins
43. Ben Cousins
44. Angus Graham
46. Jake King Delist or Trade Agree 100%, should've been done last year

Great thread, good to have a list we can see together and let off some steam.

Your post is absolute crap, and it would mean we maintain our shitful performances. Change needs to occur. To even hint trading maguane is a disgrace, he is that good now.

Foley is the only bit I could agree on, and maybe keeping thursfield and trading Moore, who will only get older.
You are so short sighted. Prior to last year, Thursfield was our backline, our only genuine defender. He is having a bit of a form slump, while McGuane is having a purple patch. But based on what they have both put out, and their potential, I would have to say they are pretty even. Its just everyone is off the Thursfield bandwagon, including the Richmond coaching staff. Thursfield has a shorter but more accurate kick and is a better spoiler. McGuane is tougher and stronger and a better athlete. But I think there is a spot for both of them, aswell as Moore and Rance. All 4 of them can play on tall or medium forwards.

My post is realistic and takes into account past performances, potential, selling players only when their market value is fair, team balance and the fact that we simply can't physically delist/trade more than 10 or so players a year. Your post is reactionary and emotionally driven. I'm just going on cold facts.

See my previous post to how it can be done. 7 (one being an extra one from finishing below 4.5 wins) national draft picks, one father son pick, 1 PSD and 2 rookie elevations. That's 11 players without trading. Obviously you wouldn't do it every year, but I think tough calls for tough times are appropriate.

Mate im sick of ur S*it posts today

1. Why are you trading raines just because hes injured
2. delist richo and brown? are you an idiot do you have any respect mate they have been our best players over the last few years and it would be an absolute disgrace to delist such champion players that would be like st kilda delisting rob harvey towards the end of his career, why would you disrespect players like that who have had such great careers
3. foley are you serious hes nearly the best player on our lists atleast he has the ability to break packs and provide some run and flare unlike a lot of the duds you are keeping on our lists

Grow Up :thumbsd::thumbsd:

this is a dumb thread, you dont delist players like raines this season, u wait till next year when GC are in. :)

seriously though Richo deserves to go on his own terms hes a legend, cousins can stay bc hes a genuine superstar thats not richmondised and thus offers something to the youngsters, foley a gun and thursfield is quality and not surplus. Apart from that not much wrong, we could get rid of the 11 beaver named, thats a good start.

See my previous post to how it can be done. 7 (one being an extra one from finishing below 4.5 wins) national draft picks, one father son pick, 1 PSD and 2 rookie elevations. But we wont finish below 4.5 wins. We will either beat the poor teams and get 9-12 wins, or we will lose the first 8 or so, sack wallace as coach, then put in an inspirational run where we win 9-12 out of the remaining 14 games only to just miss out on the finals. This is, sadly, the richmond was of doing things.

So, realistically, 6 picks, plus...and correct me if I'm wrong, don't we have to offer one of our picks for a F/S pick? 6 + 1 PSD + 2 rookie elevations is 9. If we can somehow get a draft pick or two for one of the players listed as trade (which will invariably be alot lower draft pick than what that player is worth anyway due to the current circumstances), that still leaves us with only 11 picks. According to Tiger Power, theres 16 spots needing to be filled, plus IMO oakley-nicholls who is a definite candidate for the axe. Where are we going to pull 6 draft picks from? And how many of those 17 players are going to have to be 18 year olds? Our team would go to shit, we would lose all of our membership and probably every game for the next 5 years, shattering the confidence of the guys we drafted and resulting in another 25 years of crap.

If no-one nominates for Josh Free, then we can take him with our last pick. Theoretically you can delist your entire side and keep on taking draft picks until you fill the roster. So we take 6 normal picks + father son.

As for not qualifying for the extra pick, well that all depends on who we target to coach the side. If we are serious about further rebuilding and the coach agrees and is supported in this endeavour we could get it no worries.

I am not tigerpower so don't confuse my opinions for his.

Bringing in 8 juniors sure will not make us a competitive outfit for another 2 years, but it will give us a chance where's if we continue down our current path we will never get off it. We need new ideas, thinking outside the box. Some inspired list management, sheesh that will be the day.
