Honestly, if we can't play finals I hope we do finish last. I hope we get lots of games into the young players and get a low draft pick to pick up an awesome KPP to add to our list. I hope we then use some other low picks on a couple of fast outside/inside midfielders and pick up a defender who can play tall or small.

I then hope we delist the rest of the underperforming players (approx 6-8) and reload for an exciting 2014.

I genuinely don't see any benefit to finishing 9-17th ... if we aren't going to be able to cheer the boys on in the finals, lets get a good draft pick and get games into those young players.

We play Melbourne last round. Hopefully will have enough fit players to finish them off. If they tank this year AFL needs to throw the book at them. Reckon Gws and suns will be very competitive by seasons end.
VP..." enough fit players to finish them off" ??? I just hope we have enough fit players to actually field a team. Haven't checked the WB's injury lists this AM, but in addition to our already lengthy list, neither Cordy, Grant nor Redpath played for Willy at either level, and Pearce was off by 1/4 time, and watching from the stand in his civvies by 1/2 time. Doesn't bode well.

Redpath is suspended, would like to know what the problem with Cordy and Grant was though.

All sides we've played so far have been sides many would expect to be in finals contention. That no longer seems the case with Brisbane. It's been a horrendous draw. I still expect us to put in a good showing against North (who are clearly better than us but who sometimes seem to struggle with us), GC, GWS and Melbourne at least. I also think that with a full side, presuming we get a better run with injuries to senior players late in the year, we will manage an upset or two somewhere along the way. I would expect that we will finish with 6-7 wins, which would be a poor result but will not net us the spoon.

Richmond debacle aside, we're clearly much stronger at Etihad than other grounds (perhaps because our issues with run are not so exposed) so I would give us a fighting chance in rounds 7-9 (and possibly against Port, though they seem much improved), 14, 15 and 23.

Generally, I think we are still better than GC, GWS, Melbourne, Brisbane and possibly St Kilda. I may be wrong.

I dare not look at facebook, wouldn't surprise me if there are posts complaining about picking up "another injury prone 1st round waste in Stringer" ;)
No they were all complaining that we should have picked up Wines, another inside footballer that is all we need:rolleyes:

You serious? I don't think we'll finish last, but it's definitely a possibility.

We've lost 16 out of our last 17 games, and I'm a troll for suggesting its not a sure thing we won't finish last.....riiiiiiiiight
Yes you are.

I consider myself a total pessimist, yet even I know our chances of winning the spoon are less than 1%. Couldn't care less what stats say, we're playing too well to finish below GWS.

6 Games in and I thought it was time for some preliminary list analysis based on what we have seen so far ... keeping in mind that players can still turn things around (in both directions!). I've split the list into 7 groups.

Senior Retain (based on age)
Murphy
Boyd
Cooney
Griffen
Minson
Goodes
Lower
Morris
Dickson
Picken

Senior Retire (thanks for years of memories!)
Giansiracusa
Cross

Progressing well
Liberatore
Wallis
Smith
Dahlhaus
JJ
Roughhead
Jones
Young
Stevens

Promising pups
McCrae
Stringer
Hrovat
Prudden
Hunter
Talia
Pearce
Roberts

Retain - Under pressure
Cordy
Campbell
Tutt
Addison
Redpath
Jong

Injury prone?
Wood
Higgins
Williams

Delist
Howard
Grant
Vespremi
Markovic
Austin (R)
Greenwood (R)

This would mean 6 primary list changes + 2 rookie list. If Jong and Redpath are retained would they need to be added to senior list or can they be rookied for 3 years? Goodes elevated. What to do with the 3 permanent rehab group members?

I'd move Dickson into the under pressure category. Redpath to he delisted. Howard I'd keep and Addison I'd also delist. Nice effort.

Addison - delist or trade
Redpath - hope he's retained, but not sure
Jong - hope he's retained

Injury prone?
Wood - trade
Higgins - trade (not sure he's worth anything)
Williams - should probably be delisted but KPP are hard to get

Delist
Howard

Just my thoughts. I make this 4 primary list changes + 2 rookie list + 3 potential retires + 2 trades = 11 list changes. I expect the end of this year to see another fairly large cut of players moved on and historically this seems to be consistent. I hope to see Redpath and Jong elevated to the Senior List and I'd love to see Veszpremi have an outstanding couple of games at VFL level then take Gia's spot in the forward line. If Redpath & Jong elevated then 7 Primary List selections and 5 rookie selections available for next season.

Most likely they want to wait til the season is over before recontracting him and seeing how his knee is plus we don't have a football manager to handle to contract negotiations so best to get that sorted first and foremost

That reminds me actually, Johnno let slip on Before the Bounce or whatever it is the other day that Ben Graham has taken over Fantasia's role.

Pretty sure that's the list manager's job now.

Might get slammed for this but would definitely offer retirement to Boyd before Cross (though I think both should be allowed to go out on their own terms).
As much as you think these player are offering us nothing, they are in fact serving a very good purpose, Big body's with experience, Just look at Melbourne and you will see a team that thought along those lines. Boyd and Cross may not be superstars but they serve a very important role in our side, we need to hang onto them as long as possible, not because they will win us flags but because they will significantly aid in the development of our younger players.
