But we don't want new for the VFL side, do we? We want them to play the same as the AFL side, so the younger guys can learn their role properly, without getting moved around all the time.
Correct, but there's always new ideas that can be brought in, rather than have a Macca monoculture. It may be just little things, or even match day tactics ;). That's why I said "complement and enhance those of the current coaching regime" (not compete with it).

Whoever is coach will have to understand that their primary role is to support the development of the AFL side. If they can win a VFL flag as well that's a bonus.

The knock I'd have on Gia coaching that side is I think there's been a question mark over his ability to play/implement/co-teach the game style that we're trying to implement especially with the defensive emphasis. He's also a recent departure from the leadership group with it's restructuring. Would he have a credibility/rapport issue with any of the players under a coaching scenario?

Hard work watching omeara, benell, prestia, swallow, day, lynch etc gallop around for the suns. We're a mile off their projected squad over the next few years.

I believe I heard Prestia's contract is up at the end of the season and that the suns still have to reduce their playing list

I think Swallow/O'Meara/Benell will all be guns but you have to expect that as they got so many picks
in their draft, it'd be highly unlikely they'd get them all wrong; even if it is Scott Clayton

Interestingly, Melbourne getting smashed by GC would shorten the odds of them getting a priority pick. Infuriating should it happen.

Gia has had his eyes on coaching for a long time and given he's been able to maintain a career despite some very obvious athletic limitations in recent years you'd say he'd have a string footy brain. I also think he'd be very happy to do what the head coach requires of him. All for it.

Surely assistant coach of an AFL team > coach a VFL team?
Why? I would've thought it's be perfect introduction to the rigors of coaching.

He'll no doubt be part of the of the senior coaching panel at the dogs, with all the advantages/disadvantages that that come with it.

Its not like he's be coaching at one of the under-resourced stand alone clubs that will be the whipping boys of the re-gigged VFL competition.

Good coach/bad coach, who knows? My personal preference is for an outsider (not cats or dogs) but if he is the best credentialed candidate, I'm for it. For it to be as suggested, a fait accompli at this early stage I'd be pretty unimpressed.

Delivery was the worst I have ever seen in an AFL match. Can't be blamed for that.
Still played like shit though.
Those 10 goals Dawes said he'd get
I think he was just a bit off the mark
Tom Lynch however for Adelaide kicked 10, which was something
was suprised when st kilda gave him up

I remember seeing a film clip of Gia coaching an under-age side not so long ago (looked like about 16 year olds). He's got a passion for it and I think would be very good. Piffle to "thought of as soft" - only by FB nuffies.
Yeah that was down at the Oakleigh Chargers. He was helping out with training 1 night a week or something along those lines.

Anyone interested in taking a punt on Ben Warren?
Was thinking the same thing. Didn't pity himself when North delisted him and went on to get the Frosty Miller trophy last year. I'm just not entirely sure how fast and tall he is but he does play a lot taller than he actually is which might create an interesting effect in our forward line.

agreed
i'm gonna watch the vfl vs wa game tonight to see how he goes

he could provide a good distraction for Jones since he does know how to use his body well in contests.

Kicked 12 at VFL level a few weeks ago, but doesn't he play a high forward/mid sized marking forward role?

With Dickson to come back and Stringer likely to be in the best 22 in 2014 (Cordy may well be as well) is he the sort of player we would target? 186cm according to wiki

He is 24 so does fit the age profile.

Draft young again and pick him up as a rookie?
The question is whether he plays the style of football B-Mac wants too.
If we play Higgins, Gia & Dickson in the same side in 2013 (debatable whether it was a success, I think we can only play 2 of them) perhaps Dickson & Warren (strictly two mid sized forwards) in the same side could work in 2014.

Depends on what we see from the forwards this year and who develops.

FF: Dickson Stringer Cordy
HF: Murphy Jones Dahl

Still Smith, Hunter, Higgins to rotate in there... Needs more speedy forwards for mine.... And a Murphy replacement at some stage..
