Geelong develop their players well. When's the last time they traded their best for an early draft pick?
They traded their captain ( admittingly he wanted out ) did well out of that.
They won't trade Griffen so it's a mute point, but Minson is 28 and in his peak.
The club isn't currently peaking and by the time we're decent Minson will be in his early 30's and falling off the cliff.
Just look at Jolly as an example .
Supporters in this climate have to come to terms with players being traded and stop fawning and lauding our players.

I thought the talk of trading Griffen was some sort of joke ?
If it's not have you all gone mad ?
PS : my bride has just told me to tell you, to go forth and multiply.

Would have said reluctance to trade such players is because of their value to the team, the likelihood of us being dudded in the deal plus an element of loyalty, rather than 'fawning and lauding'.

Take your point, but the value to the team long term when we're going to get better is of more significance.
Our club does laud players to often a point even made by Chris Grant at the 07 B+F .
Folk keep putting up Melbourne as a reference point for not unloading to many senior players.
Then you could throw up Hawthorn who unloaded a fan favourite Trent Croad ( vividly recall pitch forks and protest at Glenferrie) Jon Hay ( who was battling) and Nathan Thompson. Clarkson was derided as was Schwab but it was a ballsy decision and the rest is history.

I wouldn't be trading Griff( especially if Cooney goes)
But in saying that I'm not going to punish the club if they did do it.
If it was Minson we'd be giving them pick 4 as well

Not one of them the value to Hawthorn as Griff is to us,
& not one anywhere near his ability.

I know we think cooney is staying whichis great. Heard someone saying he is going to be a hawk. I pretty sure he will stay a dog. If hawks lose buddy, they will go for Thomas and cooney. Probably offer Gil like $500k. Therefore we should get a band 1. Only realistic offer would be pick 4 and pick 5 for pick 1. GWS will get shranberg and Kelly. They get two stars. We get our Boyd. Only realistic option getting Boyd. Or we will get either white, gumby, crameri, mckernan or go after a lower profile name like this walker from Geelong or thorp in pre season draft.

We did the same when we traded Monty, a very bad decision where we lost the heart of our team and rapidly deteriorated after that.

We're a football club, not a franchise. A football club that is trying to develop a positive culture, a culture with good people first and foremost.

We are not a club to dispose of its best, and most respected, player for a potentially good kid.

The Bulldogs are demanding it's kids make good, positive decisions and stick by each other, we aren't going to do the opposite of that by culling Griff.

Hopefully......

I don't even understand y we would consider trading griffin. Griffin is a out and out gun. Has became a complete midfielder. Was just a outside player but now can do everything. So quick, so tough, so skillful. Runs all day. And is now in a elite few of players that is untaggable. I understood losing lake last year, but to lose our best player in the prime of his career, one of the best players in the comp, would be devastating, and would enrage me.

His not living in the " now " like some of our fans are.

The past is a dream, the future a fantasy..... there is only the "now" !

I would have thought that we want to assemble a list rather than disassemble one. Don't see how one can successfully do both simultaneously.

The whole idea of "won't be around when we next challenge" for mine reeks of defeatism, assuming the interim years are not important or have no bearing on the development of the squad.

History says teams that win premierships improved steadily over the years prior to their ultimate triumph, and that means years with a balanced squad.
The recent performances/seasons of GWS and GC demonstrate quite clearly that no matter how much young talent you might have, overall development and success depend far more on having a solid group of talented senior players for any squad to learn how to win, rather than just heaps of young talent.

Wards such a weapon. Destroying melbourne
I miss him :( He can do it all. Soo similar to Selwood that it's scary. Plays inside, plays outside, great skills, excellent overhead, fantastic leader, the list goes on.

Also, Jordan Roughead is leading the Coleman according to the commentators! ;) Would be nice if he kicked 40 odd on the weekend but looks unlikely..

So underrated. He'd be captain next season if he was still here. Sigh. Still don't blame him for going. Not at all.

No, good on him for setting himself up for life. I'd do the exact same thing if I was in his position. I don't hold a grudge against him and I never will. Same with Harbrow.

I don't want to trade Griffen.

But what if we were offered two first rounders?

I'm not so sure what we would do then.
Unless they were picks 1 and Jeremy Cameron, I'd say F**k off. Macca has already said he's not trading Griffen at all. He CATEGORICALLY said we will not trade him.
