Why couldn't we pick up a mature stop-gap older player with good skills/decision and speed?

Develop his inside game..

Cross + Boyd + Picken fill this void for Wallis/Smith.

I would be disappointed if we finished bottom 3 next year and i don't think we will.

- GWS will improve just like Gold Coast did (minus a couple of wins due to GC having Ablett)
- If Melbourne get a good coach they should improve.
- St Kilda are shot, done, cooked. They will get pick one IMO.

ATM I have us third last behind Saints and Melbourne, giving us pick three.

Would not underestimate us improving on this year also. If Cooney has another good pre-season and the youngsters go up a notch then we could finish as high as 12 or 13. Don't forget Goodes has the belief now and I'm sure his pre-season will be even better, and who knows how much better we could be with Higgins and maybe Wood in the side. Therefore I think we could end up with anything between pick 1 and 6 and once again it becomes a lottery.

I don't think we'll get Boyd this year. Higgins and Williams would have been very tradable but have little or no value now due to injuries and there is no way we'll give up Minson or Griffen.

Cooney is a free agent, although if we could do a sign and trade (NBA style) Tarrant would be a great pick up. Doubt Norf will want to lose him though.

Love your stuff Crossy but sorry to say on this idea I can't agree - I don't rate Tarrant.

I watch every Norf game (Mrs Mutt is a roogirl) and I'd much, much, much rather Black than Tarrant. Tarrant has absolutely no leg speed and is a defensive liability - his opponent runs off him and often as not scores more goals than Tarrant does. Total spud in my view.

I rate Black very highly, but I don't think Norf will let him go. He's a star in the making.

Who would you rather, Gumby or Tarrant? (keeping in mind Gumby would be cheaper).

I also rate Black, will be a superstar. As for Gumbleton Vs Tarrant, I think Gumbleton is a far better player if he can stay on the park, I don't rate Tarrant all that highly.

was a lot of comma's there. lol. u gor urself a deal.
summaried is:
we get band one for cooney
offer pick 5 and pick 4 to GWS, get boyd.
Simple enough? lol
We won't get band one for Cooney, and if we did I don't want to trade picks four and five for pick one, and I doubt GWS do too (they want mature players).

If we got picks four and five, we could get two of Scharenberg/Billings/Kelly. I'd rather that than Boyd.

Have said this a few time, but the only way we can get boyd in my opinion, is if we lose cooney (which is looking unlikely), goes to hawks, as they lose buddy, so they get cooney and Thomas, pay cooney and Thomas the combined wage they were going to pay buddy. so like 500k for cooney. 600 k for Thomas. we get band 1 for cooney, giving us pick 5. we then offer pick 4 and pick 5 to GWS for pick 1. we get boyd. then GWS get two top 5 picks to draft elite midfielders, or use to trade on to other clubs. they would have pick 4, pick 5, and pick 10. could use any of those 3 to get talent they wanted. which what they want is bellchambers. not really any key backs to get in trade of free agency, but might find one in the VFL or something.
But they want mature players - not draft picks

I think pick 4 and 5 is a reasonable give for boyd. considering we wouldn't have had pick 5 in the first place. and if it is too much. You could give pick 4 and 5 to get pick 1 and pick 10.

That is true. they do want mature players, not draft picks. pick 4 and pick 5 could get you more than what just pick 1 could get you. trade one pick to different teams.
Get your man in Bellchambers no problems at all. Giles and Bellchambers would form a pretty good ruck/forward duo.
The other player could get you Daniel talia or something like that. crows won't give up any backman but just using that as an example.

I have a feeling we'll improve quite a bit next year. Perhaps as much as Port but probably without their luck.

I'm basing this on our improvement in ball movement recently.

I have us finishing 9th-12th.

There's a massive difference between getting just pick one back and getting pick one and ten. I would trade four and five for one and ten.

From what I've read, next year has alot of KPF for the first round (is that right Knightmare?)

I hope we improve like that, too. We're not far off.

Alot of people want us to go hard at Boyd, the point I'm tring to make is that we can get one next draft.

agreed there is a huge difference. but I mean, having pick 5 up our sleeves, back just as much huge difference. like it is overs giving pick 4 and 5 for pick 1, but if u want boyd, then u go and get it. pick 1 and pick 10 for pick 4 and 5 is even, but GWS might not see the point in a even swap. so sometimes u gotta go overs to get the man u want. that's all I am saying.

Do I have to pick one? To be honest, I'd rather that we draft Conlan or McCarthy - or perhaps one of the tall forwards next year.

If Williams can stay on the park, or if Campbell ot Roberts comes on, we might be able to wait for a kid to mature.

I've got a feeling we'll try to land Crameri, who is not really a monster forward but would add some size and aggression to our forward line up and would definitely strengthen it.

No point trading in talls if they are spuds - a tall spud is much more of a liability than a midfield spud, if you get my meaning (exhibit A being Tarrant.)

Same, There is a chance we may finish with 7 wins this year. I wouldn't be shocked to see us improve further and have 8 or 9 wins and then push for finals the year after.

It's such a shame Williams can't get his body right. He would be perfect. The same can be said for Higgins and to a lesser extent, Wood.

I really hope Higgins can get over this foot injury. I'm watching the Lions game from round 1 right now, and damn he was good. Kicking on either foot is great.
Despite what some say, I still think he's very important to us.
It's a shame that our big injuries have happened to such important players.

Williams - Key forward.
JJ/Wood/Goodes - backline pace and skill.
Higgins - Forward class.

They're all areas our list is shallow in at the best of times, to get injuries in those areas really has hurt us.

Couldn't agree more igloo, thought he was coming along nicely last year before he hurt himself, and could have stamped himself this year after a brilliant pre-season if not for his foot. I have no doubt that with a little luck he'll deliver what we all know he's capable of....
