He's not the worst on our list right now, but you could ask the question would he get a game in any of the top 4 teams

I know we are not close to top 4 right now but we need to build a list that will take us to that position
I think we have missed some opportunities with past drafts

I also believe because of that we are up Brown creek without a paddle for the next 5 years.
So we need to start drafting smarter from now on.

Absolute crapp. Our list is extremely talented with heaps of upside. We just need to get games into a lot of our young players and maintain a game plan which does not resembe the one we played under chocco. It is obvious of the improvement in some of our young players since Primus took over, ie Carlyle, Boak, Broadbent, Westhoff. These players are playing with much greater confidence than what was previously apparent to me. I beleive that this has a lot to do with Primus preaching our strengths rather than playing to the strengths of the opposition. Blind Freddy can see the change in the way we now play, which is far more exciting and accountable than previous years.

Re: Butcher

The grounds are his entire career to date.

There you go again GO Power another shot at thomas - do you actually watch any games !! he gave Boak 2 goals on sunday with h/ball kicked 1 himself handed 1 to Pearce who missed does all the hard work - the week before his efficiency from 32 poss was 72/73 % 2nd most of the game and 9 contested poss - I think you would be better bagging some one who deserves it !! your opinion is always tainted .........

Are you his mum or something? I've seen you post on this board twice, and they're both whingeing about how I'm not a Thomas fan.

You'll find that I actually gave him 2 votes in the MVP thread, because he had a good game. That doesn't change the fact that he has a crap footy brain and average skills. If he improves those things (or at least the footy brain one) he'll be a very good player. If he doesn't, then he'll be on the footy scrapheap in a few years. He's obviously safe for this year though.

Re: Butcher

i rate Thomas
We have enough receivers in our team, and we need guys like Thomas who is willing to kill or be killed
those hard ball dish offs to Boak on the weekend were sensational
Sure his skills arent quite as good as say Pearce but then Pearce is useless at busting tackles and hard ball gets... does that make him a shit footballer?

I think that with an average draft (17 year olds already removed) and the GC concessions this is not the year to be cutting too deep so here goes.

By my take that would make 5 spots avaiable on the main list of which two would be taken up by Meyer and Hitchcock leaving us three picks in the draft. Picks 12, 31 and 48. I think we would keep who we have rather than go for pick 65.

Though if we get a pick we can use this year for Pettigrew or a player we may delist one more

I have assumed that Krak is off to the gold coast for pics we will use in future years though if it is an end of first round we may decide that 26 this year is better than 18 in two years time in whcih case we would also delist one more, possibly Nash. Nash is lucky that as a tradee he would have signed a 2 year deal and that Krak is going otherwise he would be a definite out IMO.

I think Pettigrew is unlucky but with Salter and Stewart coming on and Moore in the wings and Chad going one more year his third tall defender role looks covered and we are better of going for some youth or filling a more pressing need via a trade.

I also think that Salopek will stay obviously.

Edit: I forgot we still need to elevate Hitchcock so I would let Dav go to make the space. If we want one more space we might even move Nash to the rookie list.

Nash is the main one I'm not 100% on yet

I'd like to see a solid gold player injected into our club, we have to give to get, well okay

I'm with you on most of these. Though, I think we will retain motlop if we don't need to trade him, keep M Westhoff (hes contracted), and delist Davenport.

No idea what is happening with Nash... He may already be locked in for next year :S

Keep Meyer on the rookie list and hang onto a national draft pick. Hasn't done enough to warrant elevation.

Keep Pettigrew. He's had an injury ruined season and would be low on other teams radar I think. Used correctly he can still be a good player for us.

This will go the same way as your Schulz call in my opinion. Thomas is developing steadily and is already a good inside mid. Without him we would lack a significant amount of grunt. He's also averaging over 17 disposals per game most of them good quality. You're too focussed on the occasional glaring errors and not seeing the good stuff.

We can't, he's been on it for two years. We either let him go or we elevate him (we could send him to the draft to try to re-rookie him, but that leaves us open to GC or someone else swooping).

I hope so.

There is always talk about the having list cloggers, but the reality is that due to the draft and salary cap and inevitable injuries and tiredness, particularly to young players, that all clubs have them on their lists.

They are necessary for the mid-season top up and the number of the list won't change for us next year or any time in the future for any club.

So expect the Nash, Meyer, Petters types to stay.

In reality it's all about how much we want to "prune" the list.

Carr and Tredrea have retired. Krakouer has effectively quit the club.

Thompson and Harding should be cut. Davenport and Nash appear to be on shaky ground.

Salopek and Motlop may request trades (which should yield at least 1 player in return)

Brogan should move to the vets list. Hitchcock will be promoted to the senior list.

We may also promote Meyer, although my gut is telling me that it'll be either Nash or Meyer or Davenport on the senior list, not all 3. All 3 are 24 and aren't automatic best 22 selections.

Cloke and Dawson will be given their marching orders. Webb may be promoted, but I'm guessing we'll retain him on the rookie list. Johns i'm not sure about, but he's a scholarship rookie selection so whether he stays or goes will not impact on our rookie selections.

So we may have something like 5 ND picks (or 4 ND + 1 PSD) and 4 rookie picks.

EDIT: Pettigrew has a contract for 2011 so I doubt he'll be going anywhere anytime soon.

TBH I wouldn't be fussed if a new coach came in and just went nuts with delistings. Thompson, Harding and Dawson all MUST go, and I wouldn't be disappointed to see any or all of Cloke, Webb, Johns, Meyer, Nash, Davenport and M. Westhoff (contract or no contract, he can't be on that much coin) out the door.

Better hope for your sake Phhht don't see this post or you will be floating down the Torrens with a bottle stuck in a compromising position

Looking for a bloody flagon...... once I find it just have to find where GP lives ..

on a serious note, the Cougar has struggled this year.:(

I feel he really needs something to shake him up. I get the impression that he isn't as committed to football as is needed to make it at the top level just a feeling on my part.

He is certainly athletically gifted enough but I wonder if its simply a case of someone that has been successful purely on talent (esp athletic) and is now at the stage where the committment levels need to meet the talent levels.

The committment level may be a case of whether he has been physically fit this year. Seem to remember he suffered a serious bout of glandular fever during preseason and would imagine that he didn't really have the opportunity to get his fitness base to a level that would allow him to really put in throughout a year.

Depending on what is available I wouldn't be too fussed about him remaining as a rookie for another year. Much prefer him getting another year than wasting spots on lists with guys like Harding.

But also wouldn't be surprised if he does get the old heave ho'........

dont care who stays goes

as long as we get 4 magic beans for pearce and rodan

my 2 favourite players but they offer us nothing

nothing at all

meyer has more upside. nash and harding produce more
