Deeply concerning unless they’re in final negotiations with new list manager and/or if we are Doing nothing in trade week ( which is not a good thing either)

Lloyd was put up for a number of roles these last few years so would be negligent if the board /Bond did not have a succession plan.... and should be held accountable.

It's like Schwabolly all over again.

Now we have Lyonsich.
nope not even close.... Although the Schwabolly era of 2002-7 and the Rosich/Lyon era of 2012-now have both have their respective good an bad points.

Schwabolly era of 2002-7, we constantly gave away high picks for very little in return. Trading picks 3 and 19 for des headland as one bad trade. Trading pcks 1,2 and 43 for Josh Carr in 2004 was bad as well. As we traded our future in both on those trades. Our recruiting ovrall was bad but half of te reason a because we constantly traded out our 1st rounders. We did play a more attacking style that's because we had 3 blokes capable of kicking more than 40-50 goals in a season in Paul medhurst , Matty Pavlich and Jeff Farmer.

I still look back on that period with frustration. we only made finals in 2003 and 2006 and we only won 1 final. Where we shold of made finals every year from 2003-2007 and should of got at least 2, possibly 3 finals wins. Especially when guys like Pav, Mcpharlin, Bell, Farmer, Parker, Heath Black, Paul Hasleby, troy cook and Shaun McManus in their prime years.

By the time 2008 rolled around, We had an ageing list and only 6-7 guys aged 23 or under. There was just as much good and harm done in that period.

To sum it up, we underachieved badly and we didn't get the best out of the team in that period.

Now compared that Rosich/Lyon era.

As far as trades and drafting, this was different, we also have got free agency. Danyle Pearce was Serviceable, Colin Sylvia wasn't. I enjoyed our 2012-15 period. We didn't constantly trade our 1st rounders. Sheridan and crozier were average. Josh Simpson looked talented but his mindset wasn't right.
Apeness was a need up forward but is injury prone. Weller had talent but was traded. We did trade our 1st and 2nd rounder of the 2015 draft but it wasn't like past trades of trading our future away.

when we traded pick 3 in 2016, we got McCarthy, Logue, Darcy and Ryan. not a bad return. Its better than trading a 1st and 2nd rounder for an average 25 year old. We had got some serviceable players with late picks and rookie draft picks too.

We made finals each year comfortably. We had 1, if not 2 real shots at the flag. We made the 2013 GF and we could of won it had freo kicked accurate. I was gutted with 2015 as we looked good in tat1st half o that season, then things stared to slowly unravel. I was gutted with that 2015 prelim loss as we didn't have the forwards to beat the hawks.

I still look back at 2016 as a fluke. We should of never of been 0-10 and got 4 wins. We should of got 6-8 wins that year. there were games we lead or were close at 3 quarter time and lost.

Had freo got 13-14 wins in 2015, then 6-8 wins in 2016, the drop wouldn't of been that bad. It would of been a gradual drop. Saying that, we might of not culled that list in 2016. Hell had we got 6-8 wins in 2016, we would of got pick 5-6, not pick 3.

Also by the time 2016 ended, was freos squad an Ageing squad? Yes it was but Remarkably not in the ball park of 2008. At least in the middle of 2016, we played guys like Weller, Tucker, Langdon, Blakely and Alex Pearce.

Last 2 years we have given debut games to 15 players. Despite trading away our 2018 2nd 3rd and 4th rounders, we still have plenty of young talent coming through.

So overall in this Rocish/Lyon era....

4 straight years of finals.

traded our 1st rounder only twice in that 5 year period. 1 resulted in an injury prone Bennell and 2-3 players. th other was trading pick 3 or 4 decent players.

Whatever happens from now until 2020 will be interesting. Because say if Rosich is gone by 2020 as well we will have a new era to talk about.

Think you will find Schwab was the CEO and he was in charge of trading and oversaw the Croad trade.
Of course the CEO is in charge of the people that do the trading that's one of his responsibilities. He has General Managers manage for him and they report to the CEO directly and they keep him informed on everything that's going on.

Ah well, a CEO with vested interests (ie us staying competitive for as long as possible – wooden spoons equal less members, younger players means less wins) can't be too much worse than a list manager who lives in Melbourne. You might as well have given the job to a bloke who watches the games on TV. Just about as much awareness with that.

If you think this is some great sign then you're probably the sort of supporter who got on the phone to upgrade your membership ticket when we had The Gamblor in charge and he'd make last minute trades just for the adrenaline...

And the infamous des headland, Josh Carr and Chris Tarrant trades too.
The picks for des headland ended up being jared brennan and troy selwood
picks for josh carr were adam thomson, pat garner, ben eckerman
tarrant trade was worse but ben reid was the pick and medhurst didn't last long there although he did have one AA year

Probably goes to show how overrated picks are

The normal concern for Rosich handling the job is whether Bond or Ross or any other staff have the guts to disagree with him or tell him he is wrong when he is.

Still, I think it’s just a temporary measure to tide us through this current draft and trade period before we bring in another list manager.

Rosich was sent over from west coast to destroy Fremantle from within.

His task is almost complete.

It's more than appropriate for our List Manager to live in Melbourne as the greater number of players being looked at are in the East and scouting and recruiting staff are based in Melbourne. So why wouldn't their General Manager be located with them?

I think you mean recruitment manager or recruiter.

List manager sees what positions are empty, what players deserve extensions, the number of years you should offer someone...

This sort of stuff is obvious if you go to all 22 games and watch training. Bit hard to adjudge contracts and dole them out based on just watching games and some info. You need to be seeing how guys run, how they're liked at the club, that sort of thing.

I meant list manager and he can get he feedback from other managers ( Bondy as General Manager Football Operations and Ross and of course would speak to Medical and Stregth and Conditioning people re a players durability) and local based recruiters so doesn't need to be here. A List Manager has the Recruitment manager report lto him and recommend drafted selections are developed between those 2 . Lloydy has the final say who we pick or who we trade or whose contract we extend. Often the List Manager cross checks a potential draft players performance and attributes as a second set of eyes and he does quite a bit of travel. A senior member of the Dockers management team recently told me in regards Lloydy who has young children that in his new role he won't have all that travel to do. I am a regular training watcher and I have seen Wallsy and Lloydy over here when the draft kids get here and I think Lloydy has been here on another ocassion when I beleive i saw him during the season. During the season I have seen David Walls here on a number of occasions.
Lloyd would see our current players during games played out of Perth and can view tapes to see how players perform and can make up his mind on long and short term decisions from his own observations and from feedback from within the club in his role as a General Manager .

I am sure Steve Bondy and Ross will be working in tandem in a consensus aloroach with input from David Walls and Steve being the spokesman till we get a new List Manager . They are all mature folk with varying specialist experience and I am sure we are in good hands in regards the upcoming trading and drafting period as a fair amount of the work has been done prior to Lloydy leaving. Drafting and recruiting isn't an exacting science but more a matter of luck than real good judgement in a lot of cases so I can't see that we aren't any worse off by Lloydy leaving as we have things covered .

Going back to the original question, I have no problem with Rosich assuming the responsibilities for now, and right up to draft/trading. Would be more expedient than trying to recruit someone and bring them up to speed before November.

Why wouldn’t his next in line take over? Someone already employed by the club and working in the area in question?

So which other clubs that aren't based in Melbourne have a list manager in Melbourne?

Probably because it would be wrong to ask someone lower in the chain to assume the responsibility for trading and drafting decisions. I have no doubt that person will be heavily involved in the process but the buck needs to stop higher up.

You being controversial again . Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story old man.

What facts

You aren't full of them and I honestly have a laugh when you think you know it all because you go to training.

You spend most of your time with your back to training and often hound the staff or players into answering questions you have.

Being the comic relief for the AFL has long been Fremantle's point of difference, finally we are sticking to doing what we do best
I'd love one of those clownish teams at the moment. We may not have won more than we have this year, but when we were on, we were on.

We're basically being told to tolerate the most boring team in history in the expectation that the club and our coach knows what its doing, and that we're on a path to greatness. What if it's bullshit?

I'd kill for someone as good to watch as Winston. Even with the losses.

The interesting thing about Rosich the list manager is that it's another example of us going against what I thought our club stood for now.

"Anywhere, any time" has turned to "run around the table with your pants down before the game has even started" when we play away.
The "Lyon bubble" has turned into us being influenced by every other game style and trying to (unsuccessfully) turn into Hawthorn.
"Let the cobblers do the cobbling" has turned into the CEO being the list manager.

What do we stand for?
