I've been meaning to do this for a little while as I feel like it would be a good asset to have on hand and to compile. This thread will be a compilation of all professional sporting club identities or nicknames, which people can draw from when creating their own club identities.

I have started things off by going through all current and former Australian professional sporting leagues, and will be going through more where time permits. However, I will also welcome submissions from the board provided they meet the following criteria:

Must Be: An identity, nickname or moniker for a current or former team in a professional or semi-professional sporting league only, and must be an English word or a word commonly known by English speakers
Cannot Be: An existing identity with an adjective that does not alter the identity (ie Super Cats, Blue Dragons), or, an identity that is too specific to a location or historical reference (ie Adelaide 36ers), or, a football/soccer club nickname unless the moniker is part of their official name as seen in the A-League or MLS

For now I will just be compiling them alphabetically but eventually I want to also sort them by groupings. For example, 'Equestrian' would include Mustangs, Broncos, Chargers etc and 'Colours' is self explanatory. The directory below is the best place to find what you want.

Great idea. I've got a list of Aussie Rules nicknames in groupings somewhere that I did for no particular reason years ago. I'll see if I can dig it out later today, and if there's stuff that fits your criteria I'll post it here.

Love the idea kdavva74! Pretty much every time I've been looking for a team name I've trolled through the web for ages, it's great to have them all here in one place. Keep up the good work!

There's literally a spreadsheet from Chris Creamers which is the same as this. I'll upload it later, then you can just add Australian names to it. It'll save you time.
