I agree with what Ford said earlier. Drive up the price of our players and actually push our salary cap to bursting point in the hopes that Wines shakes loose next year. Wines is the one they're after.
Wines and Wingard are contracted for 2016. For 2017, the following players will renegotiate their contracts:
Wines
Wingard
Hartlett (RFA) (probably $450-500k per year for 4 years)
Monfries (400k per year down to around 350k per year for two years)
Schulz (unless contract extension is activated - $400k)
Ah Chee (unless contract extension is activated)
O'Shea (unless traded out this year)
Young (unless traded out this year)
Plus the following contracts will be at the back end:
Ryder (you'd hope if our list management was any good we front ended the shit out of Paddy's contract this year)
Boak (contract finishes in 2018)
Gray (contract finishes in 2018)
We've got heaps of room to move, even with Dixon coming in. Plus we have the new tv deal which will invariably bump up the salary cap by at least 50% over the life of the deal.
That's why you have all these clubs scrambling for our players and offering seemingly obscene money - it won't be obscene after the new CBA has been negotiated, and they know it.
