This report says Lithium-ion batteries of any kind have been banned from the cargo holds of passenger planes since 2016. And some airlines have placed restrictions on their use onboard the aircraft.

These batteries are in your smartphones, iPads, computers etc. The manufacturers need to come up with a self extinguishing system.

The airlines are going to have to work harder too in the meantime to prevent these incidents which have the incredibly serious potential of causing a fatal accident.

So lucky this wasn’t worse.

Imagine this was 40,000ft over the Pacific and they couldn’t extinguish it or multiple devices catch fire.
 
That’s right. They should look further into perhaps finding a way to refuse them on flights or at least restrict them.
How do you ban people taking their phones with them on travel? When travelling your phone is your most important item.

That would be the difficult part. I’m unsure how they could do it in regards to phones, but I guess it’s something to look at.
 
Air Asia flights that I have been on already severely restrict the use of powerbanks, effectively banning you from using them on board if you are permitted to put it in your luggage, however they do have USB ports built into the seats if you have a cable for slower charging. That may be the way of the future.
