Avoiding bringing together Garlett and Newman is not conservative, it's a no brainer. We can have one troubled kid in our side to try and fix, but having two together would be so, so risky.

I'm sure we probably would like to have both players in our squad, but their connection considering the position Newman is in means it's just not possible.

Not drafting Garlett has nothing to do with Newman.

He'd have been picked by another club otherwise.

Very pleased with the Carter selection. At such a late pick, we could hardly have asked for more. At least we now have a genuine small defender option with midfield potential. If he was 5cm taller, we'd have a decent midfield prospect on our hands. Regardless, a better future option down back than Brennan and perhaps even Smith imo.

Colledge is a risky selection. Very much a project player by the sounds of things, but it wouldn't be an Eagles draft without one. Just hope he ends up better than our past few.
I'm hoping to see him developed into a big-bodied midfielder, as we are certainly well stocked for KPF's. If only Tanner Smith or McIntonsh slid a little further. :( Reckon he'll either be surprise hit on the HFF/wing ala Fyfe :p or delisted within a year or two. I'd have my money on the latter.

For #$%^ sake, can all the armchair experts take a depth breath for a second.

Dayle Garlett was obviously past up for a reason, 18 clubs seem to agree on why.

Colledge is the same height as glass and woosha just refered to him as key position on the fox sports coverage.

For those nuffys asking what hutchings has done since the U18s. Hes chopped up in the WAFL until getting injured in 2011 and finished runner up to a record breaking winner last year. Hes not slow..."Hutchings' time of 2.83sec for the 20m sprint was faster than any time recorded at the National Draft Combine". He worked his backside off and has been rewarded for his efforts, something garlett needs to learn. Sure he would have been available in the rookie draft but GUESS WHAT?...so is Garlett.

Im not claiming our picks are all gunna be guns, after all our first pick was 45.

But im sure your all correct, seeing as you work for AFL clubs.

Please take your sanity elsewhere.
We're too busy getting angry!

Disagree. Him not getting picked up does not and cannot prove that WC didn't factor in his association with Newman.

Solid draft. Carter and Colledge are both underrated talents, with Hutching's ready-made depth. I'd much rather a player like him taking up a list spot, rather than a raw recruit who may need a year or two in the WAFL.

I realise we may have nabbed Hutchings in the Rookie Draft but given we can get Rodda, Taylor, Lowrie and even Garlett in the rookie draft - Players who won't have the immediate impact of Hutchings (Garlett aside), and only possibly more upside; it's a logical (if conservative) decision that has been made by the club.

Hutchings is 21 too; I think we're under-estimating his potential to improve at a club with greater resources than West Perth.

its got everything to do with newman! The two hang out together and are mates for god's sake. The cops have been onto them for a while, it was no surprise to them that newman got charged....

Some good prospects available in the Rookie Draft.
Matthew Haynes
Nick Rodda
Josh Scott
Jason Pongracic
Marvin Warrell.

Garlett was overlooked by every club after being considered as a first round pick.
They Obviously all did their homework on him.
So we weren't alone on the decision.

Continue..
lets just say that his fitness isn't the biggest issue at the moment... would be surprised if he is kept on the list, even though I think he is a great prospect. we've got to keep our no tolerance approach towards players who don't want fully invest in the club and its vision

So are we going to cast our eye outside WA or? I was thinking how well we did with Gaff and Darling but could we really have chosen anyone else? Gaff was an obvious pick at pick 4 as was Darling at 26. Stuffed up with Shep, Stevens, Swift, Lycett and imo we have done the same this draft.

Ok so we lost Swift and Stevens, FFS we picked up Morton, Cripps and Wellingham, we didnt need Hutchings on the main list.

Apart from the lack of height and pace.

Well if we have to sack Newman because of a worst case scenerio it may mean that opens up a PSD pick on Garlett then !

Vosso on radio tonight said he doesn't think they will have a PSD pick but if they have to sack Newman , a PSD pick and Garlett might be a chance , I think thats how it goes .

Very much hoping Newman stays on though

Why get rid of one problem to take on another??? sounds eerily like the definition of insanity...

Can't see what all the fuss is about.
In any one draft you're likely to see only about ten real stars.
In addition to that you might see about 20 solid players.
The next 30 players would be lucky to average five career games.
So the way I see it the best we can expect from our new draftees is five games each.Any thing else is a bonus.

I think it's pretty obivous why we picked up Brant Colledge.

With lynch gone we needed another Aquinas College boy to go with kerr.

Not great, not bad. With the picks we had we have done about right. We got to open our presents before Xmas anyway with Wellingham, Cripps & Morton so i never expected to be doing cartwheels tonight anyway. Surprised by Garlett but he must be a very naughty boy.

Any how, welcome to the club newbies and good luck.
