By this time next week you'll have all had time to dig up old Hutchings stats and articles to make you feel warm and fuzzy then be full of optimism about him.

Hutchings is a great pick up, ready made. Was not happy at the saints and has deserved his recall to AFL, will be a suprise packet to many next year. I tip him to play many games for us.

Someone with a bit more height and/or speed but I guess that they decided on the safe and conservative approach.
Hutchings the one pick i have an issue with, just screams rookie pick and was an unusual pairing with Carter.
Get the feeling the draft did not fall quite as we hoped with some of our preferred selections going just before ours. The time we took at 59/60 shows how unsure we were.
Brant Colledge
192kg - 87kg Perth Football Club
STYLE LIKE: Matthew Pavlich
*TRADEMARK: Lead up grab, wheel around
*SUMMARY ASSESSMENT, RECOMMENDATION:
*DISPOSAL, DECISION-MAKING, SMARTS:
- Kicking predominantly on his right side Colledge enjoys nothing more than wheeling onto his right side and drilling the ball deep. Very much a one sided player which is ok if Colledge is played solely as a forward given his athletic ability it is an area he will need to improve.
- Colledge is very much a first option player which is why he’s so reliable. Seldom does Colledge hold up the play, has the smarts to know when not to go, but his first instinct is to look to move the ball on. Has exceptional vision displays the ability to kick to where he wants his teammates to run. Makes good decisions entering the forward fifty and if in doubt will drill the ball long and deep.
- Set shot is good, kicks well over 50 metres from set shots, swings out to the right to gain extra distance. Ball drop could be tightened up a little bit, occasionally dropped from too high.
- Very smart player in general, reads the play very well, routinely executed intercept marks at PSA level, WAFL colts and in the 18’s. Just knows when and where to run. His kick to handball ratio is good, absolutely hates wasting the football. Minimal handballing on his left side, again, an area to address, he will most likely play through the middle and as a forward.
*HANDS: Exceptionally strong, especially over head. Good below his knees.
*OVERHEAD MARKING: Probably the area of his game which makes him so enticing. Combining the lead up capabilities of Paparone and the overhead marking of Shaw, add in his own contested marking one on one prowess and he’s the standout WA KPF for me. Uses his body very well to first out body his opponent, backs it up with a strong core to hold his ground.
*ATHLETICISM, INTENSITY, ETHIC, CONSISTENCY:
- Acceleration is very good, gets his metres of free space on the lead.
-Good closing speed which is demonstrated by his chase down tackling. Applies good defensive pressure for a big man and uses his frame to good effect.
- Colledge’s form between round 18 and 21 was exceptional for Perth capped with a 31 possession, 14 mark game in round 18. Intensity is superb when he is on, actively looks to intimidate his opponents physically, wants to be the man.
- Leap is very good, as is the recovery. Colledge is another forward from WA who extends the hands and makes it very hard for the defender to effectively spoil once he is airborne.
- Strong work ethic, high marking forward who generates his own opportunities by time his leads well and drawing the eye line of advancing mids, unlike other young forwards he makes it easy for his teammates to hit up on the lead. Doesn’t ask his teammates to thread the eye and is rewarded with alot of lead up grabs in space.
Improvement Scope
Large – Colledge does everything well, that said he can certainly improve all aspects of the game and I believe push himself to be a topliner of the competition. There are few gaps, refine the strengths and he will shine.
*AFL VERSATILITY: - High – Midfield, forward and back. Has the size to hold down a spot in any position. Colledge has the balance, smarts and pace to make it as a forward. Strong hands overhead and the work rate to make it as a forward. If you can play forward you can play back
*QUERY: - Injury prone.
So are we going to cast our eye outside WA or? I was thinking how well we did with Gaff and Darling but could we really have chosen anyone else? Gaff was an obvious pick at pick 4 as was Darling at 26. Stuffed up with Shep, Stevens, Swift, Lycett and imo we have done the same this draft.
Ok so we lost Swift and Stevens, FFS we picked up Morton, Cripps and Wellingham, we didnt need Hutchings on the main list.
was Gaff such an obvious pick though?? Seem to remember at the time a few on here criticising the club for not picking Polec, and that Gaff was "too vanilla"
Whatever happened to Josh Toy?

All of those bar Stevens were homegrown as you sayWell after rolling the dice on Swift, Notte, Stevens and Weedon maybe the club felt a bit of home grown, lower risk selections were in order.![]()
I won't add fuel to the fire because ive seen him play only twice and his performances where mixed. But two years ago Colledge was the premier KPF in WA and spite of his chronic injury issues he still managed to maintain his form at when fit. He also added 2cm and around 10kg over that period.
He's at Perth for 2013? along with Tunbridge and McInness, so things get interesting. Will get a good look at all three of them alongside each other week after week.

I thought all the new draftees move to east Perth along with our guys from peel?
