Yer but when you put everything together it all adds up, even other clubs would look at that and think it's not the smartest thing to do...
And also I'm not sure if your agreeing with me or disagreeing with me, or both :thumbsu:
Well I don't see how it's really that much different to West Coast selecting say a Dockers supporter. Chances are that that player would have hated the Eagles growing up.

Yes but supporting the Dockers is different to saying you hate the Eagles, both may in fact be true, but choosing to pick the negative and displaying that you hate the Eagles is more detrimental than displaying a like for the Dockers IMO.

The club recruiters do their homework, and like I said before, being some what of a risky option already, Personally I wouldn't have anything negative toward any AFL club as it all adds up and may be detrimental to chances of being drafted.

Vanilla wins you flags. Look at Sydney, I mean with the exception of Jetta and maybe Goodes (not to the extent previously) they are vanilla.
Hawthorn - Buddy Cyril etc no flag.
Can't draft a side full of x factors for the sake of having hope they might pull out the extraordinary sometimes. We've already got that ;)

Yet most seem unhappy again about our "boring" picks...go figure ;)

With regard to Garlett I just heard a caller on the radio say he was over his family's house last night and apparently he got a call from James Hird telling him to jump on a plane and come over to train with the Don's as they are interested in rookie picking him.
Radio phone call and all but hey just putting it out there.

Also with Colledge and Carter good to see a couple of good friends end up at the same club in the same draft, they would be stoked.

An Aquinian and a Wesley boy being good friends?

Unacceptable.

Quite interesting that everyone is talking how the STEAL OF THE DRAFT was Membrey going to Swans yet we picked Colledge ahead of him.

What disappoints me is that we seem to pick the same size/type of player every fricken year. I don't know but i'd just love to see some variety like a rangy linebreaker or perhaps a tall midfielder once in a while. Seems we always pick the same small midfielder/back flanker type every single time.

I suggest you go through the picks from 46 to 58 and see who we didn't draft at 45 and do the same beyond pick 60.

What about this Sam Colquhoun fellow? Any idea why he wasn't picked up?

Same reason why Carter slipped to pick 59, he's small and probably needs to get more of the ball.

It looked like it, same thing happened to us by Adelaide with Siggins.

Have you seen much of Marsh?

I'm going more off reputation; he seems to be thought pretty highly of. Was somebody I was really hoping we could snare with our first pick.

I dont really understand the rationale with taking him as a rookie, if you want him you might aswell take him on the main list. His off field issues will remain as a rookie, he will still 'influence' the playing list, he will still draw negative publicity if he has a fight at a night club etc He still comes with the same risks but you cannot benefit from having him playing for your senior side. The opportunity cost would have only been pick 60. He will almost certainly go before our rookie pick and we have missed out on the pace and skill were kept saying we would recruit.

The reason why rookie listing is a solution is because it will be like giving Garlett another chance and then say to him learn our structures and disciplines and we will give you a shot on the main list otherwise just picking him in main draft is rewarding his bad behaviour/attitude and would be very difficult to get him to change his attitude ..
Garlett would be very upset today that he wasn`t drafted and no doubt it sends a clear message to up and coming recruits that have brillant ability on the field but poor off field habits to smarten up ..

Hang on DS, what EH is saying is, if you're going to sit there and bitch about who the club has drafted, at least have some background on who would have been preferred over the players taken. Sorry to come across harsh, but have you seen Membrey play or are you going on what is said on BF? ;)

How are Carter and Colledge anyway the same?

They aren't, you missed the point slightly cobber. Carter is the same as the last 10 small mids/back flankers we have drafted recently

I for one would like a bit of variety on my burger.
Quick comparison to dockers, who have some tall mids (Pav mundy), short mids, Fast mids (hill) Line breakers (Pearce)

IMO we how mids don't differentiate quite so much.

It's hard to understand the point when you can't string a legible sentence together.

I don't see why we would want draft Garlett when he's known to have some off field issues and publicly admits he hates West Coast.
I'm not sure I see him getting taken as a rookie this year, Possibly clean his act up and get drafted next year by Freo

He may miss out this year but end up a 1st round pick next year after he cleans up his act. It's at that time many will be spewing that WC didn't take a punt on him.

Garlett is an obvious talent but with questionable desire. In that regard he's similar to Lewis Jetta in 2008.
If Garlett is available at WC's pick in the rookie draft, WC shouldn't hesitate in taking him, IMO. Buy low! WC can cut him loose if he ****s up. Very little lost as it's only a rookie pick.

Garlett hating WC is irrelevant. If he ****s around and doesn't take his job seriously because he's at a club he hates, he only hurts himself. WC can banish him to the WAFL and de-list him at the end of the season. But, with Garlett on board, WC have the opportunity to change his mindset, inculcate professionalism and develop his huge talent.

If Garlett works out, WC save themselves a future 1st round pick on someone they'd choose with a similar skill-set. Also, WC are overdue for a win from the rookie draft.

I'm not bitching about anything what are you talking about sir?
I said it's interesting that the eagles opted for Colledge over Membrey. Wowee BT! Send me to prison somebody quickly, i'm on such a rampage. And yes i have ;)

Apart from the lack of height and pace.
But with the additional traits of skill, composure, leadership and game smarts (an ambiguous term but one of Carter's strength is his ability to read the state of the game and alter his game accordingly). Like Brennan, Carter will also give his all, albeit with less urgency and aggression.

As a small defender who can shutdown a dangerous forward and provide effective rebound, I'll back Carter over Brennan. What's the point of having pace if you don't know where to run?

Also if Hutchings managed to be runner up in the Sandover - wasn't he better than swift and co?
Well why not go one better and select Kane Mitchell? After all he did win the Sandover, and is therefore the greatest talent in the WAFL by your logic.

Honestly dunno who I'd prefer out of Hutchings and Mitchell? I just hope we don't end up with both
