Live Gigs

Didn't we see Pink Floyd together? That was the night when the flying pig got stuck half-way across the Tennis Centre. Stuff just seemed to go wrong all night. The worst concert I ever saw was Neil and the Young Ones at the Princess Theatre - had comps but was so incensed by the crapness, I thought seriously about asking to be compensated for wasting hours of life on the damn thing.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we did. The memory is a bit vague about the pig getting stuck, but I do remember it was a pretty specky concert. Do you remember getting along to the Eurythmics at the Entertainment Centre... great concert!

Thankfully Barry and Bob were both comps, but yes, you do still feel cheated.

Saw Dylan supported by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at Kooyong in 86...excellent.

Saw him the next three times he came, but gave up eventually...he can be seriously shit.

Queen at the Entertainment Centre (Lexus) with them at the top of their game...superb stuff, mythical larger than life

Best gig ever was Spearhead/ Michael Franti, supporting the Stay Human album about 8 years ago..the feelgood dancing-est gig of all time.

(EDIT: In fact, my missus just informed me that our eldest boy was...err...a product of some Franti-induced feelgoodness which carried over to when we got home..hahaha..i didn't realize that until now :D )

Deep Purple gave me partial deafness in 1985...seriously.

Hitch-hiked up the east coast of Oz in 92, at the same time Hoodoo Gurus and Paul Kelly were touring...caught them both a few times each...Hoodoos were always great.

Saw Tina Turner in about 1984/85 in the Astrodome ( ) in Traralgon before her revival...it was about 7 bucks, and there were about 29 people there...not particularly a highlight, but funny considering two years later she was filling stadiums.

Red Hot Chili Peppers in Easter 2007. Incredible to watch one of my biggest guitar influences in the flesh

Also going to see Gaslight Anthem in March 2011

Have quite a good summer/late spring coming up.

Airbourne - Cup Eve
Metallica - Mid November
Shihad @the Corner Mid November
U2 - December
Big Day Out in Jan
Soundwave in Feb

All time top three gigs...

Bowie @Rod Laver in 04
Greenday @Telstra Dome in 05
Nine Inch Nails @ The Metro aka The Palace 07

I'm older than most posters on this thread, and haven't been to a "gig" in a long time. The best three concerts I ever saw were:

1. Genesis at Football Park, 1986
2. Pink Floyd also at Football Park - mid 80s.
3. Foreigner at Festival Theatre - support band an up and coming Cold Chisel.

Last one I saw was Cat Stevens earlier this year at the Entertainment Centre.

Well, fave gigs:

Hunters & Collectors, Hopetoun Hotel 1982
Dead Kennedys, Sydney Trade Union Club 1983
Hoodoo Gurus, Miranda Hotel 1984
I Spit on Your Gravy, Flinders Uni Refectory 1985

As far as energy goes, these 4 take the cake.

Performance wise:
Lou Reed, Roma Theatre Newcastle 1984
The Cure, Entertainment Centre 2000 & 2007
David Bowie, Entertainment Centre 2004
Ravi & Anoushka Shankar, WOMAD 2010

I can safely add Baroness Gershwin room, 19th Nov 2010 to my top gigs of all time after last nights effort.

I'm not sure I've ever felt so connected to a band live before.

Shihad is New Zealand speak for 'Balls of Steel'.

Loved them last night at the Corner. BDO, Tool sideshow, U2, Charlie Parr, Jordie Lane coming up, Jeff Lang about an hour ago, gutted to be missing Spiderbait this w/e @ the Corner, bloody weddings!

Best gig of all time..
Definately one of my favourites was Regurgitator during the Unit tour. Played at a nightclub in Mt Gambier and completely ripped the place to shreds, and everyone just totally lost it. Never, ever forgotten it.

This was pretty damn good:

Paul Kelly @ Meredith.

Good thread.

Mudhoney at the Central Club back in the late 80s. Freakin' loud, cans of Emu Export and those songs.

Jeff Buckley waltzing up to the stage and singing unannounced at the Lounge at like 3am one night was amazing. Just stopped the freakin' room.

Saw Nirvana burn it up. Talking Heads were great too.

Jeesus H Christ, shut the **** up.

That is unbelieveable!! That is now equal leader of the 'best gigs I never saw' list, with The Dirty Three at Meredith in the middle of a huge electrical storm. Apparently epic.

Bands or artists I have seen live in the past 18 months:

Slipknot, Machine Head, All American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, Pink, Anthrax, Faith No More, Paramore, Clutch, Janes Addiction, Jimmy Eat World, Baroness, Lamb of God & Metallica.
Bolded all at Soundwave.

Coming up:
No Sleep Til (Melbourne)
Soundwave

Anyway going to the Lemonheads next week? Shame about Ray...

Back in da good ol days.... Mother Goose @ the Sandown Park. Darken the room, the boys hide, bang the lights come on and these guys spring into action.

Around same era, early 80's, The Models @ The London Tavern, Caulifield South. Wonderful venue...not really, if the band played too loud they would get cut off by an automatic noise meter. You could watch the meter on the wall, a series of red lights in an up and down row and when the top light went and stayed there..bang..no more music...which was usually at the best bit for the band..oh well.

Later Pearl Jam supported by Kings of Leon @ Melbourne Park, 1996. Got to go back stage. Tim Robbins the actor was there with Warney as well as the band, interesting night.

I don't know how many acts I've seen in the last 18 months, but it's a shitload.

Just waiting online for Kyuss tickets, atm.
any luck? heard they sold out in 4 mins! apparently moving show to bigger venue (the Palace) to cope with demand. Rest of tickets go on sale 9am tomorrow morning (friday)

Wow, Mother Goose....I'd totally forgotten about those guys. I can remember watching them do "Baked Beans" on Countdown when I was a kid. They were Kiwi's, weren't they?

Gigs, well, some of my faves, in no particular order:

Faith No More, Palace, on the 'Real Thing' tour (circa 1990/91) - just as 'Epic' topped the charts. Crazy.

Mick Jagger, Rod Laver Arena(or National Tennis Centre, as it was known then) 1988 (had a killer band backing him, Joe Satriani on guitar, Simon Phillips on drums, Doug Washburn on bass) - I know the Stones purists would argue this one, but as a 15-year old metal head dragged along by my father, this gig was a real eye-opener and introduced me to a life-long love of the Stones.

Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros, Corner Hotel Richmond, 2000 - 'nuff said.

Nine Inch Nails, Alternative Nation, 1995 - at the peak of their powers, on the 'Downward Spiral' tour. Mindblowing.

Ramones, Big Day Out, Melbourne,1994

QOTSA, Thebarton Theatre, 2004
