My prediction is that I will swap red wine for vodka after Freo's first pick if we continue drafting the way we usually do with our first pick :drunk:
As for the actual draft, I predict lots of cat & mouse shenanigans from the 2 Adelaide teams, Gold Coast & the Saints in the early stages, but no actual deals to occur, until the father-sons & NGA players start to get bid on.
That will produce a clearer picture of what is required by each team, pick-wise, so we will see swaps happening from round 2 onwards.

Nah GC ask for 2 extra rookie spots from AFL for a reason .
GC still have the same cap though right? The new players that have joined will all be on fairly good money. The 2 extra rookie spots allow you to go 38/8. Not necessarily 40/6. Don’t you have a few academy kids that you want to add as rookies? If you already have 5 rookie spots committed then you are probably looking at adding at least 2, maybe 3 more.

I’d say you will go 39/7 or 38/8 if you trade.

wot.

Walsh will be a 200 game plus player picks 8,13,16 are no sure bets to make 100 games.
I see what you're saying but lets say take Marc Murphys draft when he was #1

You would've got

Oakley Nicholls - F
Shannon Hurn - B
Richard Douglas - B

In retrospect you'd take those 3 over Murphy.

2007 when Kruezer went #1
Henderson - B
Ebert - B
Lobbe - C

Probably once again take the 3 over the pick 1.
And thats not even cherry picked or anything like that, there are plenty of guys after those picks who are just as good if not better.

Too early to call the last 3 yet but at this stage IMO its 8 to 5 in favour of the 3 picks.
Hodge is a tough call but you'd take Bartel AND Dal Santo over only Hodge.

I would just use pick 1 and 2 on Sam Walsh and Lukosius, but still look stupid to swap pick and sent May to Melbourne for pick 6 just for no 1 pick .
If the trade is 3 &6 for 1 Carlton won't get Luko one of Rankine / Rozee and maybe Smith? Would be the likely result. Which would be a good result but possibly not the one that they would want

Its more complicated by the fact that Carlton really only need mids, only mids at the top end of the draft are Walsh (pick 1 or 2), Smith & Rozee. I dont consider Rankine a mid. So to trade pick 1 you would need to be sure that we get both Smith & Rozzee.

I really don't feel like Carlton are going to trade pick 1.
Pick 1 had more value to them when there was an ability to get players and top picks back in the trade period.
And at pick 1 its not like you can 'wait and see how it pans out', which will be a factor in the draft day trades for other sides.

Add a future first round selection to the equation and Carlton have ammunition for next years trade period that has some mighty big fish in the OOC pool.

Just spitballing...
GC: 6 and next years 1st for pick 1
PA: 10, 15 and next years 1st for pick 1
AC: 8, 16 and next years 1st for pick 1

Not sure I'd be jumping at any of those offers.

GC offer is the only one that would come close IMO.

Are GC recruiters really enquire Carlton about pick 1 . Look like all the delisting and pick swapping are planning toward 5 top 30 pick for GCS IMO .

Who should Carlton's priorities be in the OOC stakes.. If we are saying we have enough kids and are ready to step it up the players i hope that SOS and the team are already wording up are..

#1 priority is a small forward, Daniel Rioli is ideal.. I would be offering him huge coin, 5 years on $800k, Tigers are loaded especially after signing Lynch and wouldnt be close to offering that. Its definitely overs, but in terms of value to our side he would be exactly what we need.

#2 priority is a youngish ruckmen who can step in and take over from Kruezar, I was hoping Tim English would be OOC next year but just checked and he isnt.. not sure who else is available that could suit this.

#3 Someone who can step in and replace Kade Simpson who is likely to retire next year.

Presuming from what you're saying its possible to trade future picks on draft night too?
Yeah could do, although everyone is set on the quality of this years draft.

I just dont see why they wouldnt have done that earlier if that was the case?

Why would GC offer 6 and Pick 1 2019 (lets be honest they are the worst team in the history of the league) for pick 1 this year.
I can see why you'd accept that. Its a free pick 6.

Clearly the assumption here is that it would be offered.

I'd still rather keep pick one.

I am not having a go at you , just stated thatn GCS injuries problem/crisis are worse than just picking ( quality vs quantity ) draftees.
Yeh I get what you're saying. Always more to it than that

Gotta find the good ones, and for both of our clubs the ones that are likely to hang around.

I just think with Gold Coasts woes theyre better off picking 6 good kids and hoping that a few turn out to be guns and hang around, than putting all their eggs in 1 or 2 baskets and getting the top 2 picks.
