Watching the Reds play the Gunners on sat nite, I thought Arsenal actually played quite poorly for the 1st half, and Michael Owen really should have slotted in at least 2 goals from very good chances (I reckon Van Nisteroy or Shearer would have nailed them) and were lucky to be 1-1 at half time, and thought perhaps Liverpool would go on and win,
But no, once again in the big games against the big guns, they fail to deliever. This has been happening constantly to Liverpool, well since Houllier has been in charge.
It's clear as crystal that they probably can't win the title now, with 8 games played I doubt they have the players with the right 'toughness' like a Roy Keane or Sol Campbell, nor do they really play with any real clear structure. Kewell helps, but when players like Gerrard go missing, you can't compare this team in the same league as Manchester United, Arsenal or Chelsea.
They probably don't underachieve if they make Champions League, but certainly are overrated as 'title contenders'.
BTW Pires goal was $#^$#^ awesome !!!!!!!

Has anyone mentioned Liverpool as a title contender this season? Most people on here had them around 4th-5th this year even with the signing of Kewell.

Owen should have scored, but he has put 8 away already this season, can't really criticise him - that's as good a record as anyone in the EPL.

Heskey on the other hand...

How can we be underachievers if we are overrated?

It's a bit like saying here is the security of a 3 year deal, but the third year is at the club's option.

We played well and definitely should have won.

There 2 goals were: 1 Lucky one. Off the arsenal player straight on to hyypia's foot and into the net and a goal from a mile away. We now have Owen and Baros(how Long will he be out for?) out. Heskey is crap. I dont know why he is still managing to make the team. Kewell has been great so far for Liverpool.

There's no doubt that Liverpool have some brilliant individual players in their line-up. Unlike Man Utd, Arsenal and a couple of others, Liverpool aren't able to play their best football when it is necessary. Having said this, I have a feeling that this group hasn't yet run their race - they're young, they're undoubtably talented - it's simply a matter of putting it all together...

...and ****ing off Emile Heskey.

It's easy. They are underchievers, because their expectations would have seen them win a title sometime in the past decade. They have been overrated because they haven't delivered on those expectations, despite every season being tipped as ready to make a title tilt.

ABSOLUTE CHRONIC UNDERACHIEVERS. I think missuer houllier's time is up at liverpool, he has been at liverpool for a number of seasons and has yet delivered a MAJOR trophy for what is supposed to be a BIG CLUB. With him at the helm for these last few years they have been demoted to mere onlookers in all major competitions...and i dont think that this year will be any different.

I thought we were a little unlucky against Arsenal, as a whole I thought we outplayed them but we came up short again. Edu did get a little lucky with his header but it was a great free kick and we lost simply because of a bit of Pires magic.

It wasnt as if they created their goals they just sort of happened. They got a somewhat dubious call when Smicer apparently fouled Pires was it? He then delivered to Edu. And Gerrard's mistake let Pires in and he still had to come up with something special.

Were not title contenders, we never were, not this season anyway. We must though make the CL. Then we will go from there.

Im not making excuses either but Henchoz, Carragher, Baros, Murphy, Hamman, now Owen have all missed time and games this season. All first team players. Makes it tough and it highlighs the problems we have in depth but it would help if we had a full list to choose from.

The title is now gone, if it wasnt anyway at the start of the season but Kewell has fit in well, Owen is amongst the goals and when we get back a few players I think we could make a run and finish top 4.

Oh and what is everyone's take on Murphy? Lost his place in the side in favour of Smicer, got it back only to be injured. With Hamman still to come back is their room for him in the midfield. Personally I want him playing but Houllier definitely prefer's Smicer, and with Diouf in the good books, auto selection in Gerrard, where does that leave Murphy?

Not to mention when Baros finally gets back or Houllier goes with Heskey up front, that pushes Kewell back into the midfield.

You really have no clues at all do you?

8 games in you have written off the team you 'support'. There are 38 games in a season you know.

The Hubcaps dominated the first half, but not the second. Plenty of chances to score, and few were taken. The Gooners on the other hand took their chances and took them well. To say they were 'fluke' goals as well... go back to watching basketball.

Oh and title contenders usually make the Champions League...

I thought Danny Murphy was your favourite player??

You've got to stop playing Championship Manager, it's warping your already warped mind further.

We have already lost 3 games, so unless we go unbeaten in the next 30 I doubt we will the title. Look back on recent seasons, the winner usually only loses at max 5 or 6 games, sometimes less.

Crap....Chelski and Liverpool fought for the final CL spot on the final day last year and they were both a good 15 or 20 points off top. Title contenders....no.

He is one of my favourites which is why I said I wanted him in the side but you obviously missed that in my post. Your reading skills are terrible.

Liverpool have bought under Houllier to win a championship within 2/3 years of his arrival.

They hit their pinnacle with the mini-treble, and they'll continue to fall.

No cohesion, no unity. Failure to back their manager, failure of the manager to back the players.

They need to start investing in the power of youth.

Unlike some of your other fellow Hubcap supporters, I don't think they will jump off the bandwagon as fast as you have. A couple of losses and you've written them off completely. How unusual.

Maybe you could sign MJ???
