Living Legend Reaches Monumental Milestone
Yule B. Sari
Once in a while events happen that are so big the whole community stops to observe. This weekend is one of those occasions, as Boncer34 celebrates his 100th SFA match. For those that have been living under a rock since his debut for the Bigfooty Bombers - way back when dinosaurs were still roaming the earth - against the Hawks, Boncer has made his mark on the competition.
After his debut he instantly realised that the competition wasn’t built for niceties (take note, newbies) and proceeded to post up a storm, tearing into anything and anyone in sight, quite regularly leaving the focus of his rants crying to their Mummy to make the evil man stop. Of course, this didn’t always endear him to the regulars at the beginning and his reputation took a while to build.
But what a reputation it has now become. Boncer has taken sledging to a whole new level and made it an art form on its own within the SFA. His relentless attack on the opposition and in fact even his own teammates has frustrated and angered many while at the same time remained hilariously funny to those not in the current firing line. Few would forget his unceremonious dumping of Jack_Riewoldt_Rulz from the Bombers line-up, a dumping which caused one interested onlooker to declare it the, “Best. Spray. Ever.”
Baghdad shed deadwood
Few of the old timers would also forget the thread where he relentlessly attacked a young upstart by the name of Kerrby
You know you're sad and pathetic when...
It has been this posting and sledging genius that has lead even the newer generation to realise that without Boncer34 around it is highly likely that the SFA just wouldn’t be the same. While still containing some quality posters the activity and relentless assaults just wouldn’t exist. It is this realisation that led one of the “noobs” to suggest that possibly without Boncer there would be no SFA.
No Boncer = No SFA?
But Boncer has shown a softer side as well in his posting. Despite him and Kerrby having several disagreements the great man even went into bat for Kerrby during one of his hours of need. It opened up a gentle, even vulnerable side of the character that many SFA’s (except Tarks) had never seen before:
Kerrby - Going too far?
Despite his off-field efforts over shadowing his on-field one's, his brilliance as a player should also not be forgotten. Boncer has played in 2 GF’s in his time in the SFA. The first was a winning one with the BigFooty Bombers, which coincided with his 50th game, and a losing one with the side he now plays with; the East Side Hawks. Boncer also won his only club B&F with the BigFooty Bombers in their premiership year when he was a powerful and controlling CHF. However the mid-field was always going to be a position that called to Boncer and it was his brilliance in the ruck that led him to be named the SFA inter-league side captain against the RFFL. (Although a big of shameless self promotion helped too)
Boncer for captain of BigFooty
It was also in the ruck that Boncer played the best game of his career and one of the best games of all time in the SFA. He single-handedly took the Hawks to the GF with his 32 disposal, 16 Hitouts, 7 tackles, 5 goals 5 behinds game against the Bombers in the Qualifier last season.
Despite taking a short break this season Boncer is still at the Hawks and if recent form is anything to go by will be standing on the premiership dais with his teammates for the second time.
Undoubtedly loving the spotlight in this special week, this reporter lined up some quotes from the good, and not-so-good of the competition.
Hawk Patrol:
“I couldn't imagine the SFA without Boncer, without it the league would be shit. He makes it what it is.”
There was a lot more to this quote, but on advice from the editors we’ve had to keep it heterosexual and also PG.
Tarkyn:
“Boncer's undoubtedly the most intimidating force I've met, on or off the Fantasy Footballing field in my lengthy stints involved in such competitions. A fierce competitor, he'll never settle until every war has been won, victory declared and the admiration of a competition of what he no doubt assumes to be pimply nerds, satisifed. You couldn't find a better ambassador for Fantasy Footy.”
Again, we had to cut a bit off this quote. He kept on rambling about some other league that he’s on. Not sure what he was trying to say.
Doggies:
“Not much that I can say about Boncer that he probably hasn't already lined up one of many people to say about him. He was though the reason I made the switch from the West Coast Wonders to the Baghdad Bombers at the end of my first season in the league, and while the Wonders are flying and Rick18 has certainly done a ripper job in turning the club around (Authors note: aww, thanks pal.), it is certainly a move I am very happy to have made (rubs Premiership Medallion).
Boncer is certainly a player and a member of the competition that causes activity, always bringing a sense of conflict and seems to have some sort of sense of power and control of the league despite holding no position to do so. Good luck the Boncer in his 100th game, pity you couldn't have delayed your absence a bit longer so it occurred against the Bombers in round 20.”
Ljp and Biggie were unavailable for comment, rumoured to be going through the celebratory beer instead while Boncer completed his obligatory media comments like the great human being that he is.
We caught up with Boncer and he had the following to say; “Well it’s been a long time coming for me in the SFA, had plenty of ups and downs but it has been good fun along the way. I know you’re all expecting a long winded speech but to be truthful I can’t be bothered with one so I’m just going to go ahead and name what is in my opinion the best team I could put together if I had all my teammates along the trip to choose from.”
