i still rekons that the problem tho because they are running that hard forward when theres a turnover we are screwed. prob the biggest thing is our skills. but yes acountabilty is a big problem 2.

You are screwed anyway with turnovers. The defensive pressure i am talking about is when the footy comes out from the oppostion half back line. We are too soft in picking up players and give up the corridoor too easily. Hard running is not an issue. It is not a problem for Geelong, Hawthorn , The Bulldogs or Sydeny to work hard both ways. What Knights wants to do with our game plan is not that far removed from what Geelong and Hawthorn do. You just have to get the basics right and force to opposition to go to places on the ground they dont want to. Don't let them go down the middle. Force them as wide as you can so you can zone thei inside 50's to wider postions and increase the angles when they shoot for goal.

i dont agree with u there ha ha. our kicking to lloyd is shocking. how many times did u see it get kicked lace out to him. NEVER. they were kicking it high in the air. which allowed maxy to spoil him. i went to the carlton essendon game. how many times did u see fev get hit lace out on the chest. mal did well on him in the 1 on 1's. but when on the lead ther kicks were awesome and he kicked 8. and i thought mal did a good job on him that nite. DELIVELY HELPS ALOT

Laces out. That is a gridiron term referring to the way the guy holds the ball for the kicker.
Or Are you suggesting the our midfielders are holding the ball upside down when they kick it? or they need to judge the parabolic path of the ball better, calculate its speed and height, and their spped, plus Lloyds speed so perfectly that when he marks it the laces should be facing away from him.

yeh fair enough , we dont work nearly hard enough the other way but that will come alot of young players. hawthorns game plan is a fair bit diffrent than wat we are trying for i think. they are abit stop start with the footy. but geelong is the one we are trying to copy, but isnt everyone. but they have been playin all together since like 2001 so its a long time in the makin.

 right........................... ha ha

Courtney Johns (100kg, 194cm) would be a bigger threat than Mcphee's (189cm, 88kg).

Its better having him than a nothing.
You're forgetting that Courtney Johns lacks skill and intelligence on a football field.

as always refreshing to actually hear some intelligent thoughts on the game ant... our midfield work rate seems to come and go.. i can't decide whether it is because they are young, under done or just plain lazy. we seem to have a lot of "front running" players (if you know what I mean). our forward line is not the primary problem.. and lloyd certainly played a shocker BUT it is hard when you have poor delivery and 2-3 defenders all the time. as to anyone having the thought of bringing in johns.. OH please actually think before posting something so ignorant.. you probably want to trade kepler back and put him in as well. we needed to play smarter, harder and more defensive football on friday night and we didn't, end of story..

P.S. i think i've got you this week in AFL dreamteam ant.. watch out.. got a few changes

Has anyone actually seen Courtney Johns Play this year.... Wouldn't there be a slight chance that maybe he's worked out the art of playing up forward with at least 3 years experiance doing it. Compared to McPhee's 3 months I'd rather Courtney to play even Full Forward (Chucking Lloyd to HF) and at least giving Lloyd a chance up the ground.

Honestly if I hear "Oh, Johns is the shittest player ever, he can't take a mark, he can't kick, he can't Handball" then your not really talking "Non-BullSh1t" Footy.
Obviously he can take a mark, he can kick a goal, why do you guys always reject a post and get ignorate about it when someone says something good about CJ, he's only played 19 games (kicked 17 goals) in my books thats alright for a player who played half of last year up back for his last 3 games of the year (which he absolutly sucked at).

Laycock is just useless!! and Hille is average even though he tries hard! we need a good ruck combination , the midfield seems ok and getting better, bring in Neagle and Gumbleton as soon as possible.Hope things go better and we kick f___n collingwood's arse on Friday so we can see Eddie in the rooms by himself crying!!!!! go the DONS!:thumbsu:

is that why at the dogs game i sat near the saints caoching staff and they commented on numerous occasions on how much both had improved and that they were a pretty good ruck combo?

Have seen the video of one Bendigo game this year plus a couple of games during the NAB Cup series. I have outlined what his problems have been. I never just said he was a shit player. The fact that the club has mentioned a few times that Johns is being groomed as a backman simply highlights the fact that his days as a forward are numbered. I will spell it out for you again. He doesnt take contested marks all that well. Most of the marks he takes at AFL level have been when he is well in front. He leads into trafic. His footy smarts are ordinary. A lot of his leads go to the wrong parts of the ground and are poorly timed. His second and third leads are virtually non existant. He seems only capeable of marking one lead which is generaly straight and has no change of angle. He is also very ordinary at jumping off the ground during marking contests.
He has played 90% of his time in the VFL this year as a defender.
During the NAB Cup he has a big chance to prove himself as a forward again but he failed again. He is simply too one dimentional for any sides to see him as a huge danger and he wont stop sides from double teaming Lloyd.

I get it!!!

But it still doesn't change the fact that Lloyd is still been doubled up and dominated to easily..... For ____ sack I at least want to see Matty Knights try something different every week other than just hoping that Lloyd will kick a bag to let us win.

I'd rather groom the youngsters, if that means a loss then so be it. I see this year as a development year. If we get 10-15 games out of Tayte Pears that will be better than playing Johns for the sake of development!

Our team is ready for Finals contention this year.

We have a team that has a stong Spine right down the field.

I know we have injuries but our first game of the year against Kangaroo's, that pretty much showed exactly what we were capable of in every game we play.
(And we only had Lucas for the 1 quarter)

If we can make the finals, then why don't we..... I thought last year would have been our developing year coming off the 2006 draft (I rate to be our best draft) and that year we actually did really good as a team. If anything round one sumed up exactly what this team is capable of, or even more!

That's why I say "Lloyd needs Support!", because come round 2 we got smashed!

Last year we lost Hird and we now have Lucas injured. This is a development year, it will take a year or two for this team to gel together. Our main problem is our midfielders, we have way too many outside mids, and not enough inside mids, and in the end we get smashed in the clearances and we will lose most games due to this. IMO a year where we finish 2nd or 3rd last is not a bad year if we play the kids and they keep developing. Getting Daniel Rich or Tom Swift will help our midfielders a lot. We may have a decent spine, I personally wouldn't call it a great spine as our backs are getting older, and Lloyd although he will produce some games, expecting him to be consistent coming off a major injury is a bit unrealistic. Stop moaning about a game against the Roos, as frankly put they are not that good themselves. Start preparing for the 2010 flag assault.

Let me ask you. Do you think we could have (or still) make the finals this year?

Without Injury's I say yes, With Injury's I still say yes.....

It's only till round 9 - 10 till Lucas come's back and then theres another 12 - 13 rounds to go.

Then its only another 2 games till McVeigh, Jetta, Lonergan, Gunbleton and Hislop are ready for selection.
So if we're going to be struggling for only another 2 games and we win at least one of them then I say why don't we aim for finals instead of annoying our supporters even more with another year wasted. (By The Way, Dempseys available for selection this week and Lucas is only 5 weeks away from Fitness)

No I don't think we can make the finals. Frankly put our midfielders especially are not up to it yet. We really don't have a great inside midfielder and if someone says Watson I'll shoot them as he is average. If we had no injuries and a dream run we were a chance but with injuries especially key ones, forget about it. Lets be realistic and make this year a building year. I am prepared to not make the finals until 2010 with a serious assault at the flag between 2011-2013.

I'm Saying Flag (2010). By 2011, 2012, Lloyd and Lucas will be gone and Fletch and Mal would have gone as well.

After 2010 we'll still be in contention with Ryder HB, Gumbleton HF, Neagle FF, (And by the look of it) Johns FB.

If anything why don't we make the most of Mal, Fletch, Lucas and Lloyd while we can!

Im not sure what you are getting for a sack :D
Anyway they have been trying a few things. The point is we are slightly limited. They have tried Pears at CHF but his inexperience at that position meant that it did not really work. They have had NLM as a target but his form in the last two games has not been that flash. They brought Welsh into the forward line last week.
It may have been different had Gumbleton or Neagle been playing some footy with Bendigo or if Daniher had an earlier start to the season and played 3 or 4 games for Bendigo rather than just the one leading into last weekend.
I still dont think you get it becasue you are presuming that our game plan was to get Lloyd to kick a bag. If you watch the game on the weekend closely at various stages Lloyd was actually the decoy forward who dragged the defenders out of the space to allow some of the midfielders to push into the forward line. The game plan was not soley based around Lloyd. You have a bit to learn about the finer points of footy ;)

No chance, we are 2 years away from being a top6 side let alone a premiership side and I cannot see us in 2 years having a chance whilst Hawthorn AND/OR Geelong are still going to have their lists in superior state than ours will be. It is just reality, saying we will win in 2 years is just silly to say the least as it will not happen ESPECIALLY without a A Class midfielder on our list- Stanton is not one, Myers maybe one but that is not enough. That is why I am looking more at the 2012 mark and I think that is fair. Tayte Pears should be the FB by the way. Bellchambers and Hille in the ruck, Laycock hopefully traded for something perhaps a small forward.

Let me change my phrase...

We'll Be Flag Contenders in 2010 (hopefully) with Geelong, Hawthron and whoever else.

Anything can happen in 2 years, like Geelong in 06', they we're the dissapointment of the year, then came 07', things changed, and now they are unstoppable.
