Excellent captaincy last night Matthew well done.I think Lloyd is an average captain, in the wrong position for a captain, at the wrong stage of his career.

Excellent captaincy last night Matthew well done.
He was great there is nothing much else you could say about his game last night. Well done Matty.
There is still a lot of love for Lloydy judging by how much the crowd went off when he took that mark and kicekd the goal.It was good to be there and see it and be a part of it.

He looked fairly interested last night.![]()
was amazing mate, ive never seen the essendon supporters jump and down that much since sir james' goal back in 2004, and then he slotted it, was brilliantI hope they got a good replay for the big screen. Ch7 showed it from about 5 different angles - they all looked awesome.
Geez it must've been good to get the vocal cords going after the siren again!
He is an average captain currently, yes.
I didn't say you can only be a good captain if you are an onballer but it's very obvious that you get far more chances to exert your influence and lead by example if you are constantly in the play, rather than having limited opportunities, waiting for the ball to get into your zone, which we do less than any other team.
I would have thought the wrong stage of career is very obvious and needs no explanation.
Because it has rarely, if ever, been a topic of discussion on our board when we are winning.
There is no doubt that Lloyd brings some good qualities to the job also and that we are very short of leaders but imo, we would be better served by either Hille or McVeigh, especially Hille.
Do you think there could also be some flow on effect for Hille if he is recognized as having had a good year, assuming he still does, and is rewarded for his efforts and we show confidence in him.
He could possibly be our captain when we next seriously make a finals bid, Lloyd won't be.
Lloyd can also concentrate on his game solely and hopefully improve his form because of that.
Conversely if he doesn't agree with the decision and decides to retire or sulks, which i am not saying he will, then is he a good captain?
Excellent captaincy last night Matthew well done.
Glad to say not for one second did I write Lloydy off or say he was on the way out.
Merv I believe he is a magnificint captain only small issue was perhaps a little far away in the goal square. That has changed now and he is roaming around and playing everywhere. There is no other reason he shouldn't be cpatain.
His game last night particularly his chasing and tackling at 100 miles per hour brought a chill to me. All the crap written about here and in the papers about him I now think is a good thing because CHAMPIONS then show the world why they are champions. The reaction of the players towards him after the game shows me they respect him immensely and they were rapt with the way he came out and stuck it up everyone. All of our senior players didn't just shake his hand or pat him on the back they all gave him a huge hug.
Well done LLOYDY - Thats what why we come to the football.
If you were live at the game last night I think you will be man enough to retract everything you have said about him being no good as captain. He was absolutely sensational.
Definitely played well last night.
I also have never written him off but have stated that he is in the wrong position for a captain.
So with him playing up the ground last night he was able to have an influence and lead from the front.
It's also just 1 game...
Of course my suggestion for his successor wasn't too shabby and was BOG and also led well while playing on the best Ruckman, while obviously not fully fit, in the league.
Great to see the crowd get behind him and even better to see the genuine elation on the players faces when Lloyd kicked goals or took marks.
Do the words "I think Lloyd is an average captain" ring any bells?I have never bagged out Lloyd, like many others.
Where did i say he was "no good" as captain?
Not a lot to take back TD.
I said he was an average captain currently, at time of posting, played in the wrong position for a captain at the wrong stage of his career.
The main reason he played well and could lead from the front was because he wasn't anchored in the goal square and could get into the play.
I have never bagged out Lloyd, like many others.

Glad to hear that if you walked up to Matthew Lloyd in the street and offered him your opinion, saying "I think you are an average captain", that it's far from bagging him out. My mistake, in fact it's nearly bordering on a compliment. That's far from bagging him out and is an opinion.

As stated earlier I said Matthew Lloyd is still a great leader regardless of form. I'm not just jumping on a day old bandwagon. For example take a close look at the amount of talking and special attention he gives your boy Jay Neagle when the ball isn't down there. It's like he has his own personal on field forward coach. That is called leadership. But in your opinion he's only a leader when he's near the ball, further up the field.
