I thought lloyd was very disappointing for you guys today. He dropped his bundle on a few notable occasions when the match was still in the balance. I would be disappointed if any hawthorn player did this let alone the captain.

Anyway it's probably been a tough season for him but still... you deserve more from your skipper.

Sheeds deserves more.

IMO i dont believe he should be captain. Not that he hasnt any leadership qualities which he has but ive always believed that a captain should always be in the thick of the action at all times! It is extremely hard for Matty to do that when playing FF. We even might copy St Kilda and have a rotation policy so maybe Mcveigh will be captain in 2008?

He was good last week against the Crows and in a couple of games early in the year, where sheedy lauded his capataincy.

But apart from that he has been very disappointing.

I don't know what has happened to his goalkicking but he misses too many shots now. You used to mark it down as a near certainty, but not any more.

He used to be an excellent contested mark, but he's not now. In fact even when he is on the lead, and his opponent is behind him he very rarely takes those "half contested" marks. You know, the marks where you are a metre in front of your opponent and you "should" take it, but there is still a bit of contact making it difficult. He never takes them anymore.

His field kicking when he is further up the ground is poor too. He does those loopy kicks which hang too much in the air. And he just generally doesn't kick enough goals.

It's been a very disappointing season from him, thus far.

Unfortunately, he seems to be the type of player who is beyond criticism. Very rarely gets pummelled for his form in the media or at the games.

Whether the game plan is right or wrong, the clear game plan today was to get Lloyd and Lucas up the ground and open up the forward line for smalls. I guess the thought was to try and unbalance Hawthorn...again, as I said, the game plan clearly didnt work though. You cant really blame the players for sticking to a floored game plan.
 
lloyd works best now when there is space in the forward line,
isolate him as a full forward and have lucas play a bit beyond forward 50.
perhaps we should put several crumbers at his feet and let lloyd lead up to the ball
 
Lloyd is not a good captain, (he is a shit captain) he is a good full forward when he plays that position, what he needs to do is just get back there and stay there that will help us win games.

Read my whole post. I'm saying that staying in the square worked brilliantly there.

needs to lose some of the bulk as he has lost his pace

then he needs to make sure he doesn't kick the ball from right to left

then he needs to be able to pick the ball off the ground

then he needs to stop giving away stupid free kicks because he is playing from behind

then he will be back to his good old self
 
I thionk he tries to hard to play a unselfish game these days, i think he feels as captain that he cant do that anymore.
 
i believe it is a direction the coaching staff have put towards Lloyd with the growing media attention that he needs to be a CHF player to enhance his career. Lloyd was a brilliant FF but the game has changed and Lloyd is in a transition at the moment, he is a natural athlete so hopefuly next year he can work towards being the dominate forward he once was. I believe Lloyd is just adjusting to how much the AFL has changed the game with rules and how teams play now as too what they did 5 to 10 years ago when Lloyd dominated. He has shown he can still dominate from CHF eg. Sydney 2006, WCE this year, Fremantle this year and a few other games. Just needs to get his consistency up

People do tend to forget that he isnt a young fella anymore and the injury last year was pretty serious in terms of the things he used to do well (kicking etc). Agreeably, he was not at his leadership/disciplined best today, but i feel the way he plays may have been influenced by Sheedy over the years. The frees he gave away were frustrating, but then again so was Ray "the Man" Chamberlands (sic) umpiring. I say give Lloydy a break and wait for next year. If Neale gets the job, I can see Lloydy being reinvented as a stay at home forward much in the style Neitz was used at Melbourne.

I actually think he should play permanent CHF. Get him in the game more. He gets crunched and outnumbered deep. Besides, we struggle to consistently get it inside 50.

During that passage of play in the last when tripped by Brown, Llloyd stayed down like he had been shot expecting a free while a scramble for the ball went on around him.

I actually think he could see the umpires almost blowing their whistles at each contest. If you can beat 'em, join 'em.
