Lloyds Replacement

Really? I wouldv'e thought Monfires would be a much better option than Lovett or Davey. Monfries can actually play like as a FF when he's played deep (iv'e seen it a few times), for some reason i can't imagine Lovett and Davey being able to do this and play as key targets.

Worked for Lovett in the past.

If Monfries played at FF they'd play Scarlett on him and he'd monster him. He doesn't have the pace to exploit any of their defenders.

Becasue every time he has needed a good game for Bendigo to grab senior selection he has come up a bit short.

Ah, the rule that is applied to some but not to others.

I tend to think it's because of team structure. It's no secret that Essendon have a slow midfield and unless we have more than one of the slower players in our team out, there isn't room for another guy that's short of a yard of pace.

agree

He won't come in. Bradley will. Johns has been playing in the back-line.

After listening to the Matthew Knights interview a couple of weeks ago, John's isn't being groomed as a back-only player. Just a more flexible one. He pointed out that the concentration required to play in the back-line would only help him as a forward.

Besides, it wouldn't be the first time that the seniors picked someone from Bendigo, and played them out of position.

Very true in the past. This year has been a little different . So far we have pretty much picked players who have performed consistantly . The only real exception would have been Nash getting a game after only playing 60 odd minutes against Frankston.

Based on the Nash experiment Gumby could be a chance but I suspect they will reward Kepler with a game this week and he will play CHF with Scotty at FF.

If Gumby was a second or third year player with a bit more bulk on him he may have been a chance . At the moment he is really ready to be thrown in as a KPP.

I think Courtney Johns would be a definant starter for the dons, but if i wouldnt mind Bradley as well been kicking a goal in every game he has played in Bendigo. Hopefully Sheedy isnt dumb enough to play him down back and take notice that he has been kicking goals

One would hope so.When Dave Clathorpe was hosting the Bomber show around 5 weeks ago he said that Kep was going to be played in a new role now becasue the backline experiment was a failure. Lets hope they stick to that plan.

im preety sure courtney johns will come in for llyod.
looked almost certain at training yesterday,
he was kicking goals from everywhere and had a big :D on his face.
hope he does and kicks a bag

It probably wont happen, but Id seriously look at not directly replacing Lloyd at all.

If anything, Hille can be his "replacement" whereby Hille and Laycock are used in the forwardline when not rucking, and depending on how they are going Ryder is always there as the 3rd option should he be required.

I am horribly concerned about midfield run and pace this week - we may get totally blown out of the water. Melbourne made us look slow and second rate FFS. We really have to be on our game. Im confident we will be, with this game meaning so much on many different levels, but we can be exposed in run.

Stanton and Winda are huge loses this week especially. Sure, Bartel may be underdone, but overall their midfield is obviously much more able to cover him than ours these two.

To be fair Melbournes midfield did that same to Collingwoods which more than held their own vs Hawthorns which is probably on the same level as Geelongs.

That said our midfield is going to have to play out of their skins to give us a chance.

Given Stanton has played the last two games on one leg and hasnt been able to give us run one could argue he wont be as big of a loss as one would think ;)
And before everyone starts , no i am not saying Stanton is a bad player and we dont need him :)

Richie Cole, was he more deserving than others?

Andrew Lovett came back into the side after missing a big chunk, that one paid off, but it goes against the grain of making blokes earn their spot.

Bradley couldn't force his way in regardless of form, granted that we were settled at the time, but now a spot has opened up and it doesn't look like he would be rewarded.

Lonergan over Houli? Probably line ball.

Laycock was another that didn't really have to earn his spot. Nor did Bolton.

There are pleny of examples were blokes with good form have been overlooked because of others.

Agree with everything, but I don't want Cole in the side ever again.

Maybe because he was in our best 22 players when he got injured?
I didn't think a player, who is in the best 22, needs to go through the two's if he's fit coming back from injury.

Yea I here you, but what I was trying to sat was that this week especially, they will be huge loses. Geelongs has a strong midfield in rare form.

We will feel losing them more this week than playing against most others.

Well, John's got the call up (not particularly surprising). I had him in front of Bradley as the better bonafide forward. Bradley's been performing well in the VFL (as has John's), just Bradley's the less experienced forward.

I'm a little concerned about the bombers pace with Winders and Stanton out. My only worry is that they've got too tall and lost pace.
